  • Hi everyone. This is just a brief overview of how to skin the Next Generation Scania R & S series trucks for use in Euro Truck Simulator 2.
    They use a new method of skinning compared to the traditional method of using ETS2 Studio.
    The guide has been tested to work on ETS2 version 1.39 onwards.

    The best, most straightforward explanation of the process I have found yet. I have been maiing skins for ages, but really relied on ets studio, could never get my head around skinning the next gen... till today.

      Hi Nathaniel. Thanks for pointing this out. It would appear the owner of the guide that I used has removed the guide from Steam.
      You could give the following method a try using Mods2 studio.

    When you do a new truck. You have no templates....or at least I don't I have the previous skin in the template folder

    • @LeeM74
      @LeeM74  4 года назад +1

      Always make a copy of the original "example" folder before making a skin. This way, you will always have a blank template to start a new skin with. The templates should be available via the link in the description.

    great video, really helped me. 1 issue i'm having though is when i put any imported image on the side of my truck(scotland flag) the blue is always massively faded in game compared to the original image. anybody able to shed some light on what i'm doing wrong?

    • @LeeM74
      @LeeM74  4 года назад

      Sorry for the late reply, I don't get comment notifications. SCS use a different colour scale than the standard RBG palette. The best way I found is to use the SCS colour picker in ETS2 Studio. Select the colour you want it to be in the SCS palette and then copy the hexadecimal code into paint or photoshop. The colour will look different in your skin editor, but will be the correct colour in game. Hope this helps. Lee

    Hi, you seem to know alot about skinning, and there is one thing making me go insane and I almost wanna give up
    When I make a skin, my text/design gets put on the wrong stuff like the wheel covers, painted sunvisor etc. It always gets this weird misplacement of whatever stripes or color I put on the doors and grille, and it dosent look good. Ive only tried skinning the MP4 and the new FH, and it happens on both trucks if I choose the painted alternative of for example the sunvisor. My layers are right, so the template at the bottom, then a base color in the middle, and then the skin itself on the top. What should I do to fix this?

    • @LeeM74
      @LeeM74  4 года назад +1

      Ok, without looking at your finished design, i would suggest making sure that you are skinning the correct template for the truck you want in game. Invariably, misplaced graphics mean the skin is not comaptible with that particular truck cab. The FH has 3 cab sizes for example, and if you skin for the globetrotter cab, the day cab will come out all wrong. Make sure to select the correct cab in ETS2 studio only. This will ensure the skin fits the cab. Also, set the skin type to "Airbrush". In the template, when you compress the file, make sure you have turned off the template layer before compression. You essentially want the base colour and then the skin. As for the sunvisor, depending on the truck / template, the visor may need to be imported into the truck template png. Do not resize it in any way, and then skin as normal. Then, when you are in game, select the painted visor in accessories. Hope this has helped in some way, please comment again if you have any questions.

    WHEN SAVING,NOT SEEING THE DXT FILE AND NO POP UP:(

    • @LeeM74
      @LeeM74  4 года назад +1

      When you are done editing, go to "file", select "Save as" and change the format to "dds" instead of png. This should bring up the pop up with the DXT number.

      @@LeeM74 Thanks for the response, the truck issue seems to have been solved, the other issue is with the trailer, I followed it step by step and in the end all my logos etc appeared on the bring trailer even though I skinned it black?

    • @LeeM74
      @LeeM74  4 года назад +1

      @@carlpearce2252, the only thing that springs to mind on the trailer is that the black layer has been unselected when compressing. Either that, or the layer opacity has been lowered. I tend to do this when skinning so that I can see what's underneath whilst still having some colour.

    • @carlpearce2252
      @carlpearce2252 4 года назад

      @@LeeM74 cheers Lee, I`ll try it, is there another way of skinning without the Bring templates and secondly how do edit the truck or trailer after you have saved it, I have just noticed a small mistake on my truck I would like to alter.

    • @LeeM74
      @LeeM74  4 года назад

      @@carlpearce2252, there are other templates for the trailers, but the Bring template is one of the easier ones. I have a trailer skinning video in my playlist. I would recommend opening up a bring skin, create a new layer and colour it to your choice. Then reduce the opacity to about 50%. Add in the trailer outline template next. Create your skin within the outlines of the trailer. Then, when you are happy, deselect the outline layer and increase your base layer opacity back to 100%.
      As for editing, once your skin is compressed, you cannot edit it. This is why it is always recommended to save 2 copies. Save one as an uncompressed file (png) and another compressed one (dds). The dds one is the one used in game. To edit, make adjustments in your png file. Compress it and save as a dds file in the same location of your original dds file. This will overwrite the original with your new adjustments. Hope this makes sense.
