No lie the pushrod be a hit and miss at times I had more fun driving the m4 than the c8
It’s just a wildly different turbo torque and hp curve, it makes more power through more of the rpm’s, not just peak
Carlos, yes the M4 is not as quick from a dead stop, but even your acceleration data shows the M4’s dominance once rolling... it takes the M4 8.1s to go from 60 mph to its 122.7 mph 1/4 mile trap speed.. meanwhile the C8 takes longer (8.3s) to go from 60 mph to its lower 1/4 mph trap of 119.7 mph. So the M4 feels faster because it is faster after it gets off the line.
Also, the M4 has a big fat BMW turbo power curve that you’re not going to get from an N/A engine.
@@terryforsythe8083 and come to think of it, if the track is at elevation, the turbo wastegates will help it build boost in the thinner air, as opposed to the N/A V8 sucking (thin) wind...
Carlos Lago 2024
The BMW has AWD and the C8 is rwd.
The M4 is the highest tuned version of the 4 series....and that is a base Corvette >.>
Now imagine if the Corvette also had forced induction....
I rather have the BMW M4 2020 that new grill is nasty
Great video
Jesus, that Corvette bludgeoned and beat that M4 down in virtually every possible way. Cost, Performance, Driving Experience. I say this as a current E46 M3 owner.
It's been decades since Corvettes were made in St. Louis, maybe they need to bring a St. Louis plant back online to churn out Vettes along with the Bowling Greene plant.
Just traded my C8 for an M3 competition...M3 feels way faster from 20 to 100... much more fun. It just keeps pulling. I love it!!!
Same 0-60 as per car and driver (2.8 with 0.2s rollout) and it has backseats that 6 ft adults can sit in. Like wtf why would anyone get a C8.
@ilangreen8465 still happy with your trade? I’m considering this exact same scenario.
Did you get the rear wheel or the all wheel?
the mid engine C8 handling is fantastic. Its simply not a comparison given the setups.
@@loopba this is true, sadly, BMW has an amazing engine, but the handling lets the car down on track. On the street at legal speeds, meh, who cares.
I'll take the M4, in Xdrive. Plus having 4 seats is a bonus.
17 people should just take the bus. Who could dislike this video? This reminds me of the days of Motor Trend. Love it.
That corvette is almost unbeatable all around ESPECIALLYYY in value per dollar wtf 🤣
Love the musical throttle revs!
Blue Danube always been a fav, and matches the car.
You pay for quality, M4 all day everyday. You complain about the lack of rear traction in the M4 but you have the traction control off.
You clearly haven't sat in a c8. the interior quality is better than the BMW no question. Corvette stepped up their interior game big time
You clearly have never sat in either. The Vette has gotten significantly better. It's now crappy instead of shitty. Even in this video you can still see how Play Skool it is. I don't mind the Vette's crappy interior though because if it had a quality interior it would be twice the price. I love the new Vette. I was in an M4 Comp this past weekend. The quality of the interior is insane. As it should be at that price point. But I hate turbos.....
@@thefather414 show me a link of ANY car reviewer showing anything other than amazing ratings for the interior of the c8. I'll wait.... I guess you know better than everyone else. I have driven both BTW and I own 1
In this review he clearly stated that the vette is not up to par with the Bimmer. And the vettes interior has been so atrocious any small improvement will be gushed over.
@@brett2375 dude you have no idea what you are talking about. Yank interiors will never match German no matter what brand you are talking about. The fact that you own one means shit, watch the reviews and everyone says the quality isn’t up to par
Did yall see the trap speed difference. Good lord that straight 6 is beastly
It feels it from behind the wheel too!
The M4 is a great looking car, except for the fact they decided to put a Ram 1500 front end on it. Seems like an identity crisis. I'm getting my C8 in about a month after a years wait. Very excited to finally get it!
@Karol Szymon Wiśniewski lol, you don't understand how it works. You give a deposit to a dealer who is willing to sell @MSRP, and then it takes a about a year or more before you can finally get the car, because you are on an allocation waiting list. I placed my deposit August 2020 with the dealer and the car is just now going to be built @ the GM plant this coming week. And no they not even remotely close to being seen as often as Camry's and they are still selling well above MSRP if you want to buy one right now vs. Ordering one.
@Karol Szymon Wiśniewski it was only a $1k deposit, and I'm paying $68k for a 1LT Z51 with Mag Ride. Just looked up prices again, and 2021 1LT's are selling for $95k+, so I can resell it and make $20k after taxes, and you are talking about a complaint over my 1k deposit to secure my allocation? No dealers are selling @ MSRP off the lot. Do a search, all the available C8's are still like $30K above MSRP.
I have an e92 m3(V8) and a C7 stingray. Funny how he mentions that you feel the surge of power on the M4 and not so much with the C8. It feels the same even for generations behind. Luv them both to death
Truck-derived pushrod V8 in Corvette "feels smoother" than BMW's inline-six and Corvette is also "a little more comfortable on the road". Am I in the correct timeline ?
Please stop ranting about how much faster the M4 feels vs. the Corvette.
BMW puts out nearly 500 hp at the wheel, more like 575 crank hp, that’s why it feels MUCH faster than the Vette despite it weighing more. ( a non competition M4 scored 465 rwhp vs 473 crank rating).
BMW always underrates their car’s power output.
Easiest way to know which one is better is to look at real life racing. IMSA. The new C8R is almost unbeatable so far
The race cars are completely different from production cars, lol.
@@EK-rr2md only difference is horsepower. You have to build your race car out of the same platform as your production car. It's just the horsepower is simply Limited at 500 for the race car.
@@davidwhite2411 That is absolutely incorrect. Why do people post things that are so completely false? Everything from the frame to the brakes, engine, transmission, dimensions, weight, suspension, interior, and fuel system are different. In fact, the 2 cars only share around 100 parts. It is easy enough to look this stuff up instead of just being so completely wrong.
@@EK-rr2md apparently you don't know how close Gm is working with Pratt&Miller to have the same race car vs street car. DYOR
@@davidwhite2411 I just explained all of the differences. Easy enough to look up, lol. Why do people make completely false posts? Maybe you like getting proved wrong over and over. Google C8R race car and click on the GM authority link. Simple. Try to actually learn something instead of showing your complete ignorance. Anyone that knows anything about race cars knows they are miles away from production cars. SMH.
C8 ALL DAY.
No comparison!!!!!!!!!! The Corvette is in a league by itself!!!
Wrong. Looks alone maybe.
I would rather have the c8 man that car looks amazing and looks even better in person.
It would have been nice to see and compare Laptimes.
Great job Carlos. Always enjoy your reviews
Great vid Carlos. You weren’t near as excited as when you’ve done GT3 vids though. That’s all I need to say :)
I have a 2022 xDrive on order, the exact same spec as this, except the carbon seats. They are horrible for daily. But same color, same wheels and CCBs for the same cost. The XDrive is $4,100 more, so that makes up for the price of me not getting the carbon seats. $102,880.
However, you’re not doing a very good job of explaining the difference in options. The M4 has $8,100 carbon ceramics, and $3,800 optional carbon seats. $2,500 full Merino Leather, and $4,800 carbon exterior package, full 360 cameras and $1,750 for the paint color upgrade. The Corvette, by comparison, is a 2LT with just a Z51 package. Fully optioned C8 without Carbon ceramics, can get over $100k. The $5,000 carbon 5VM exterior package for the C8 isn’t available to order anymore, or it would be more than the M4 fully specd.
Poor Job explaining the options on both cars and declaring one car faster without track data. Go figure.
@@edwardsison that too. Maybe there’s a 3rd video, coming? The first video was 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Maybe there will be a 3rd video with actual track laps. 🤷🏻♂️
@@g.dubyou6263 maybe, who knows. Btw, when are you projected to receive your AWD? I actually traded in my RWD M4 last week for an AWD model coming in October. Dealership provided me with an X5 loaner. I am at 111 order status with a production number.

Great Review … congratulations!!
Did you guys add the extra 2 liters of transmission fluid prior to taking the C8 to the track?
The Corvette is a sports car, like a Porsche for less money. And the M4 is a fast coupe based on a 4 door sedan. It will never come close to a Corvette C8 around a track.
My dude, what...? Have you seen reviews and track tests?
The new M4 / M3 Competition xDrive will also be faster in straight line then the C8
Interesting comparison and analysis!
Finally Edmunds making a comeback 👌
I'm a 2x M3 owner. A BMW fan, for sure. My pristine 2004 E46 M3 is still epic, and I'll keep her till I croak. But as soon as I can get my mitts on the C8 Z06, it's over. Nothing touches the corvette for the money, and I'm finally a believer.
Excellent review!
Interesting that the M4 Comp has a higher trap speed than the corvette at the quarter mile. Wonder if it would carry on that trajectory in the half
Yes it would.
BMW horsepower should always be written as "500" because we all know they are usually 15% more
Those are bespoke ps4s on the BMW. Completely different than standard ps4s. They are much closer to standard cup2s
Yeah, same deal with the C8, too. Most (if not all) cars like these have tires tuned to automaker specs.
@@CarlosLago
The M4 is not making 500 hp lol
It has nothing to do with delivery
They literally dyno 500+ whp. Its
Not because they are impressive
@edmunds should Chevorlet make a stretch c8 with rear seats?
I had driven BMWs for 20 years and when it was time for a new car, I looked at the M2/3/4 but they didn't generate anywhere near my excitement after I sat in a C8. It took many, many months of waiting but I am now a proud C8 owner and I have zero regrets. It is my daily driver and it is a fantastic car!
Lucky man! Congrats

Vette wins just on looks. I be embarrassed driving that BMW with that grill
the M4 grill looks like Hitler's mustache.
@@s.p.5455 😂😂😂 good one
People commenting on how ugly the m4’s grille is. I’ve seen this corvette on the road the whole car is atrocious to look at 🤢
@@s.p.5455 😂😂😂. Looks are subjective. I bet the general public would go against your judgment.
I've seen the M3 in real life, it actually doesn't look that bad..looks really aggressive
Ill take the m4 but with a manual, the c8 is cool, but it looks like i would get kinda bored of it in a year.
Who would want a front engine car when you can have a balanced, mid engine platform. The corvette is also way more car for the money. I want the same racing platform as an Indycar, or a Formula 1 car. Nuf said.
Me, give me a ferrari f12 any day of the week,
Lmao u sound goofy

I just want to know how did you do that pose in the air?🤔
As an owner of an m3 I do not approve of the new pig styling of the M
Which one will still be most cost efficient to own and run when they hit 80k miles?
The C8 all the way. Looks better, drives better, sounds better. I could go on. But you get the point. It's not even close.
Track times?
Was this m4 x drive?
Im a vette guy but i do like the BMW, however has Edmunds even tried pricing a new or used C8 these days? Most new ones have $30k dealer markup, even used C8's are typically over $100k as well.
I came out of a BMW 340i into a C8 with the 3LT interior. The 3LT is soooo much nicer in every respect. It feels way, way more premium than my 340i. Edmunds should have stepped up to the 3LT in their C8.
here's a fact that no one know about, the leather and material used in the 3LT interior option is from the same french supplier that MAYBACH and Bugatti uses for their cars. So it is indeed a FACT that the C8 have the same interior quality as an Chiron. Of course when you option for the 3LT or 3LZ for the upcoming z06
BMW M4 is cool and all, but the BMW is old news. Nothing special. the corvette is brand new and looks exotic and awesome.
0:10 actually I was looking for where I left my 10mm socket, but that sounds nice too. lol
Am I the only one who thinks this BMW is absolutely bold and gorgeous
@@idesignafrika7066 yes
CONCLUSION: the corvette it's the better car. also people forget that the corvette has dual clutch transmission something which the M4 doesn't have., those dual-clutch are more reliable, smoother and save more gas. the funny thing it's that the corvette cost $20,000 less or even less., I don't what BMW it's smoking lol.
GM dual clutch more reliable? You must not read corvetteforum.
@@redgt3244 man you need to read more. GM doesn’t make the c8 dual clutch, TREMEC does and they have a high reputation for reliability way batter than any German transmission company.
@@christhedoc8689 LOL ok
@@christhedoc8689 I do agree with your assessment about Tremec's DCT, to an extent. It is not smoother or more fuel efficient than the ZF8HP. And we do not know as of yet, if it's more reliable, considering the ZF has been out much longer. That said, Tremec does tend to have a good reputation but mainly for its manual transmissions.
Obviously, a vid to annoy/anger the masses: the c8 is a world-beater at its intended (ie, pre-pandemic) price and the M4comp is a lux germ sports sedan. Both cars are great, but the correct comparisons are c8 v M2comp and CTS-v blackwing v M4comp. If you dont keep the prices close, what's the point?
Corvette. The potential for some reliable tuning upgrades has my vote. 600WHP? Yep.
The B58 / S58 has a ton of potential for tuning as well.
I've seen a dyno of an M4. It was putting down 505 WHP.
So that means it has between 580-600 BHP.
U mean the opposite
@@eLus1ve2991 huh? I meant what I said. A cars bhp is higher than whp.
"Wheel Horse Power. Unlike bhp, whp is the power output measured at the wheels. This is the information a dyno run provides and usually reads around *15 per cent less than the power measured at the engine (bhp) - this is because power is lost in the driveline (including clutch and transmission)."

wait... good review but no lap times? you were on a track!!!
How did he launch the Corvette? Was it a neutral drop, or ...??
3745lbs BMW to 3365lbs Corvette, so obviously handling is slightly compromised but 1/4mile is only 0.3 seconds different for the C8.
Top speed for both is near enough same albeit the BMW comes with the European restriction (if your market) but with the BMW you can have her tweaked just a little and gain a lot more power buy a custom MAP Configuration and that’ll add another 50-65hp (safe) which would make it a lot quicker.
We don’t all drive on tracks regularly and most of these vehicles will never see one, so drifting is pointless especially If you like your driveshafts and don’t want to spend $800 on a set of rear tyres every month.
It’s your money, and if resale after a couple years is important to recoup something back then go with the obvious especially if you’re trading in or having something less common.
The 3365 lbs you quote for the c8 is the DRY weight, ie without fluids. The fully laden weight is 3649.
I am a Carlos Lago fan. There I said it.
Ask him out
its really tough, straight six is my favorite engine configuration and im a fan of manual transmission.
As much as the Bmw might have some advantages, it will get boring after few month. Corvette will never stop putting smiles :)
Great comparison, they are definitely similar in performance, but visually the Corvette is stunning, while the BMW makes me want to throw up in my mouth.
You will only see it from behind.
