Went to Cooperstown at 10 and 12 years old. Looking back, it was such an amazing experience. As I watch this video today as a 27 year old man it legitimately brings tears to my eyes remembering the good times on the diamond.
Wow I got crazy nostalgia from this vid. Went to Cooperstown back when I was 12 in 2015 and now I'm 18 graduating High School this year. Time flies man!
How long do tournaments usually take? This is my first year of travel and I want to know. Like do you stay in the area for like 7 days or is it just a weekend thing
Played in this tournament back in August 2004. Watching this brought those memories back that I cherish so much. Hit my first ever home run here and played way too much Big Buck Hunter. Glad to see that's still in the arcade lol!
Thanks for taking me down memory lane. Played there in 98' and from what I can remember, not much has changed. Awesome to see the pins still being used.
I umpired in CDP in 2016. Very good experience overall. High Notes: Couldn’t be a better setting out in the middle of nowhere. Gorgeous scenery from anywhere in the Park. Grounds crew makes sure all games get played even if it rains. They were able to get fields playable quickly and we could play well into the night. Pin trading for the players was fun. I only traded for team pins of teams that played on my field on games I worked. I still have those in a bag somewhere. Gave away some of my CDP umpire stuff to kids at the end of the week. Parents are kept beyond the dugouts which puts them in the OF area. Made for some nice quiet games. Loved the town. Small and quiet. Very old feel to it. Like a throwback in life. Double Day Field was nice to visit and watch a game. Ran into a guy in a St Louis Browns jersey who had just played. We shared the same story. Both of our Grandparents were drafted by the Browns but never got to play after being drafted to the Army. Enjoyed watching the team that took me play when I wasn’t working and seeing their enjoyment as well. I broke a CDP rule and squirreled away some CDP baseballs for them to all sign for each other. Food was ok for a camp site environment. No AC in the cabins. But I didn’t mind that so much. Cracked a window and the night temp changes helped. Took me back to being a kid so it was a high moment. Met some great guys that I worked games with. Picture taking on all of the fields was great. I got some good action photos to frame for my wall. Just waking up to the fresh air and baseball. Lows: Not many really. But the fence marked at 200’ is false. More like 185-190’. I walked it out once I saw how short that OF was. The balls are juiced. They make their money on HR souvenirs. The big low was uniforms. After skills competition the player scenery was just boring. Everyone in the same red or blue. I would rather see the teams in their own uniforms. The baseball HOF had some awesome artifacts but I was underwhelmed overall.
My travel team was against tournaments out of the three. Outbids around us, so I didn’t get to experience this. It makes me cry knowing what I could’ve done but didn’t get to.
I am 28 years old, I don't play ball anymore but I think back on my travel team experiences and Coooperstown was the best experience of my life. thank you for letting me and my friends and many other kids live the dream at this camp each year.
