  • Josh has come across a 2016 15HP Suzuki Outboard that runs, but then after a short while the outboard cuts out. Josh will show how he resolves these issues and cleans any contaminates such as water that may have entered into the fuel system of the outboard. Water can enter a fuel system by mixing bad fuel into your tank, washing out the boat with the vent open, and various other ways as well.

    With water in the fuel is there any other parts to drain or just what’s showed in video?

      Overall, it is best to just replace and buy a whole new fuel system. We usually change the fuel filter, low-pressure fuel pump, high-pressure fuel pump, and brand new fuel injectors. It is expensive, but it's the best option to get the outboard up and running for the long term.

    As a brand new boater (Honwave t38ie3) this has been great for me. I watched a Irish guy going out to fish and he got 3 miles out and that is what his engine was doing, lucky for him he carried another small engine with him, he put it into a shop and they could not find a problem. But when ever he took it out to sea it happened again and again. Wondering if it was similar. Thanks for sharing Ray K. UK. YNWA.

      I do like how easy it is to access the parts of the outboard since you can take off the side cowlings and get anywhere you need to. We use these outboards for the summer program. They go through a lot of wear and tear. If taken care of, I believe these are great outboards. The flush out for the outboard is annoying though.

    I got water in the gas tank and the engine shut down. What should I do, it doesn't turn on? It is a Suzuki 20 HP Manual year 2022

      Id recommend flushing the entire fuel system. You may have to buy a new fuel filter, HP Pump and LP Pump. Id start by removing the hoses and getting as much water out as possible to see if that works. May have to take it to a dealer if you feel that it is outside of your area of expertise. Adding a fuel and water separating filter in your fuel line would be good to help prevent water from making it into the engine.

  • @saulbibas

    Thanks for the video. You think is a must to have fuel water separator. I noticed you have one and It does not stop the water to go into your fuel system.

    • @thecollegequarterdeck
      @thecollegequarterdeck  Год назад +1

      Usually in these videos, theres so much water, its not surprising that water gets passed. The workers would leave the tanks open and water would get inside and it would get sucked up into the engine. If the fuel tank is taken care of then this should resolve the issue. I fuel and water separator isn't going to hurt ya. Its up to you if you decide you want one :)

    Is there any need to bleed air out the fuel system after you open it up? I notice on the top of the Vapor separator tank there is a nipple with a cap on it. Do you know what that is? Thanks

    • @thecollegequarterdeck
      @thecollegequarterdeck  Год назад +1

      I do not know what it is for, but so far we haven't had any issues with not bleeding the fuel system.

      @@thecollegequarterdeck I drained the oil from the Suzuki DF15 after about 10 hours. I left it in the bottle and after a few days a white precipitate formed from the oil at the bottom, a lot of it. What could it be and what cause could it be? New engine, only 10 hours old
      I also see that at high speeds, white smoke comes out of this nozzle near the cooling water nozzle

    I have the same problem, random question- if I flush down the fuel left inside with the screw near the filter. And buy new gas, is there a chance that it will clean the system by itself? I just recently change the fuel pump, but then waiter too long to get back in the boat again and did not change the fuel 😢
