This is a really great tutorial. I don’t like the way a lot of people draft hoods and the fit on this one looks great! Will definitely be trying this one out
Yeah, hoods is definitely an interesting subject. I made one for my little one using the same principle and she loves it. But then I had a Skype call with my dad and I was wearing the hoodie test garment and my dad commented that hoods need to be big! :) Let me know how it goes if you try it out :)
Thank you for this tutorial... and all your tutorials! I just finished my first hoodie! I used this hood pattern and added ease to a raglan top pattern that I like the fit. I had the confidence to do it from watching your videos!
thank you so much, this was so helpful! It is my very first time sewing an hood and thanks to your tutorial I was able to draft it and I'm so happy for the result! I needed it for my cosplay, and I sewed just a few things before, so I needed to make sure this would go as smooth as possible!
Thank you, Christine! The sweater is actually just a mock up, not sure if I am going to finish it up or cut it up and use it for another test garment, but little one is enjoying her hoodie. :)
Watched several hood drafting videos. Have found this tutorial especially helpful for the info on how to reduce the front length of the hood - very clearly done - thank you very much - have just finished drafting my first hood with your help🙂
It is, I promise - check out the instruction sheets for this as well :) you can make a hood like this for most sweatshirts, jackets, if you like to wear your hair up in a bun - add a bit of length to it, same goes for a hat :)
Thank you sooo much for an easy and detailed tutorial first time seeing you and I subscribed.Looking forward for more interesting videos. From South Africa
This is a great tutorial but I wish at the beginning you had said how much room we would need at the bottom. Just had to start again as I didn’t have enough room 😢
This is great....however I realised after adding the extra length that corresponds to the depth of the front neck from the depth of the back neck, it became too long in height.
Hi there! Tried your hood method today, loved how simple it was, I seem to have messed up somehow and can’t quite figure out where I went wrong , my hood does not meet in the front of the dress I made for my daughter and when I measured the pattern pieces I had the same length measurement on the bodice and hood. If you have any tips I’d greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your response! I did, and I sewed them fairly evenly, may have gone a little larger than intended, but I ended up with almost a 2 inch gap on the front neckline so I think I made a bigger mistake than that. Planning to play with it tomorrow and add some extra seam allowance, but wanted to see if there was any other advice.
Question: would this work to add a hood to a blanket for an adult? Or would I use a cape hood? I’ve been seeing all sorts of reading blankets with hoods (such as Emposia), but they’re $75 or more. I can’t really find any tutorials on how to actually make one.
Hello there :) just extend the front of the hood by 1". Now the hood part (the bottom) that is going to be sewn into the neckline will be 1" longer in the front on each side, which will give you an opportunity to overlap it. Think about it this way - to overlap anything - you have to make it longer. :)
Hi, I don't wear hooded tops only because they feel like it's choking me. Do you by any chance know if it's possibly possible to have a 2 or 3 inch gap opening on the front of top instead of it being sewn all around the neck? Or would it even look okay?
Sure, the best answer to your question would be for you to make a sample garment and take look if you like how the hood looks with a gap at the front neckline, like your proposed :)
I have never liked a hoodie; because, they just don't fit me. There is to much fabric around the neck. Plus, they will not stay up. Thanks to you, I now know why I hate them. Thank you or this video. Please stay safe.

Alisa. The sweater looks fab on you. 👌🏼😊
Thank you, Christine! The sweater is actually just a mock up, not sure if I am going to finish it up or cut it up and use it for another test garment, but little one is enjoying her hoodie. :)
This is well detailed and a perfect fit. I love your illustration and how the hoodie fits so well. I will start using your own pattern
Tried it out. Hoodie came out really nicely. I was drafting a hoodie for a poncho.

Really helpful video, please make a video on blazer or jacket pattern .if possible for you
👍👍
This is a good tutorial
You are absolutely amazing 😍
I love it. What if I want to make a removable hoodie, which I can attach to my coat?
Then you need to do a research/figure out how to sew detachable hood with Velcro, snaps or zippers and a coat with it.
Excellent! Thank you beautiful.
This is great....however I realised after adding the extra length that corresponds to the depth of the front neck from the depth of the back neck, it became too long in height.

Did you add seam and hem allowances? If you added them - did you sew them evenly?
Thank you for your response!

Nice 👍😘 stay connected 👌
Super cool...thanx
Hi Alisa. This doesn’t overlap at the front right? If I want to overlap the hood at the front by one inch, how can I do that? Thanks for your tutorial

Thank you. I will try that :)
Haha. I understand in order to overlap, we have to make it longer. I just don’t know how to shape it and how it effect the look
😍😍 thank you

Please can you help me cut nurse curp
👍🙂
I like your method… however, how comfortable is the fit? …it appears to be pretty snug to me…
I like the fit, plenty of rooms for me. The best answer to your question is for you to make a test hood and adjust from there for your preference.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity will do… thanks for responding…
how hard is it to turn a hood into a collar type
Would you please explain more? What do you mean by "collar type"?
Can u put measurement number cm
Please use google to translate inches to cm, you might also have a ruler that has both - you can use it as well.
Hi Alisa!! Love your tutorial, seems a lot easier than other hoody tutorials I’ve seen….
