Infuriating having these 2 sneer and laugh in your face whilst the most horrific animal cruelty is playing on screens in front of them. Hopefully any rational people watching this will exercise mercy and compassion for animals and live vegan (unlike these two)

Have you considered bringing a poster board with the actual definition of veganism with you? It seems like a lot of the argumentative bits stem from them lacking an understanding what veganism actually means. Most of them seem to think its an all-or-nothing thing like when they say stuff like "oh what about the bugs?".
Nice debate. We need to invoke empathy in them by asking what if you were in their situation? They should ask themselves and think "what if it was me"?
Looking at the clip he said it is wrong but he will still eat animals makes me wonder that he was just feeling sorry and that is not empathy. So as long as he is not getting killed he thinks that what happens to animals is fine and they both think that thet need to kill.
Where there is a will there is a way, if people really think what is happening to animals is wrong people will find solutions to all kinds of problem, the problem with these kind of people are that they are selfish and also they think they have reasonable justification, that is why these excuses. They don't truly grasp the life and death situation and they should stop behaving like a slave to their taste buds.

People are being fed with misinformation that vegans murder animals too by you know who, hope these people think critically on their points that there is a difference between murder and justified killing such as self-defense, death by accident. Hope they see the logic that we are consistent in killing humans or any sentient beings if they destroyed our property and means of survival.

Obviously it is incredibly difficult and you are under pressure trying to remember a paper in real time and for me it is easy to talk as I am not in the hot seat. That's the literal definition. The farm animals humans eat also need to eat and be fattened up before slaughter. So animals and insects are killed accidentally in order to produce the food for the 80 billion farm animals. And then the 80 billion farm animals are killed themselves.
Insects and other creatures are killed accidentally in order to produce plant foods for 8 billion humans.
So we have to ask ourselves, which lifestyle results in the furthest reduction of harm and death?

Fries. These 2 are the main calories over the meat in a burger and are what spike the blood sugar for weight gain.

Joey, you are an amazing advocate, not just for animals but for us as well. Surely, these individuals are not evil, but are simply following the brainwashing that we have all undergone. When he asked you about what your ancestors used to eat, you could have shared your own journey. You weren't born a vegan, but through early enlightenment, you broke free from the blindfolded traditions that envelop us on this Earth.
We were all once like these individuals, aware but choosing to ignore what was happening behind our plates. Some people can change their perspective by confronting the horror images they usually overlook, while others may undergo a transformative experience, perhaps through a dream envisioning a world where all sentient beings are treated with equal fairness.
Personally, I used to enjoy consuming animal flesh due to the cultural influence of eating it in every meal. In my earlier lifestyle, I was completely blindfolded. If someone had told me that cows are sentient beings, I would have laughed and dismissed them. However, enlightenment eventually found its way to me. I hope these individuals won't remain stuck, as many human families have come and gone without discovering the path to peaceful, caring, and respectful living.
It's unfortunate, but that's how life unfolds. You did your best to bring these young individuals to reality, when they watch themselves later, I'm confident that change will come to their minds. Thank you countless times for the excellent work you are doing. Keep advocating for the importance of all lives. This is a winning position, not just for animals but for all Earth inhabitants.
You might want to check out the French dairy farmer demonstration taking place in front of the European Parliament with tractors and a hanging plastic statue of a cow. The irony in French culture is evident when they play the victim card, using animals to represent their suffering, and when they profit from animals, they depict smiling or dancing cows. Our world is truly messed up with all the brainwashing we undergo, making it challenging to escape unless luck finds its way to our brains. Peace be with you always

It never ceases to amaze me how people forget that animals have to be fed their entire life and are thus less efficient than plants, it's like they become momentarily lobotomized.
Every living thing needs to be fed their entire life. Plants included. They are constantly using the suns Ray's for photosynthesis and in their root system producing chemicals which aid the soil and bacteria to breakdown nutrients so they can absorb them.
Carb addicts like all plant eaters are , eat a lot of food daily because all vegan diets are so deficient in nutrition necessitating the need for supplements

Given how much crop is needed to feed at least ten times as many farmed animals as humans I don't think that protecting crops from insects even comes into it, since less crop would also mean less pesticide and all the rest of it.

Just a small point, I don't think that going down the path of "killing insects for crops is self-defense" actually helps, from an argument perspective. It just reinforces the anti-vegan idea that we discriminate smaller animals. I think in these cases what needs to be stressed is the difference between accidental/collateral death and direct murder, along with the fact that far more plants are grown for animal agriculture then they'd be if we all went plant-based. Also, even in this case, numbers are nowhere near to the deaths of animals in farms and slaughterhouses.
That's what I'd put pressure on, otherwise they'll just keep going on with the narrative of "you don't care about the small guys"
Just a couple of things. Accidental deaths occur when a harvester or plow runs over a field. Or even simply mowing your lawn causes accidental death. There's nothing accidental about pesticides e.g insecticides, miticides and rodenticides or even traps. That is deliberate and intentional killing of pests. What also needs to be taken into account is the crops grown for animal agriculture e.g soybeans only require pesticide spraying twice a season compared to say cabbages which is at least once a week as they're far more susceptible to pest invasions.

@@_CappeLol, I wouldn't say stressed, more take into consideration. When the crop deaths argument is "debunked" then it's often a numbers game of how many insects are killed. Vegans say substantially more are killed in crop protection for animal agriculture than protection of human edible vegetable and grains. It also depends on which country you reside in.

@@_CappeIt could, but humans would never consume the total amount of soybeans currently being grown. 80% is used for animal agriculture alone. 60% of the worlds soybean production is imported to China for animal agriculture, mainly cattle feedlots. US beef is 96% grain fed, where Australian and New Zealand beef is 97% purely grass fed. As I mentioned, location in which you reside is an important factor. I think I've seen the statistic of 80 billion land animals killed every year. When you do the maths that's 10 animals per person, per year. Which isn't even 1 a month. Seems pretty reasonable to me considering that number includes chickens.

I'm vegan, but I do not understand the self-defense argument. The insects are not attacking us. I feel pretty rotten about the insects and wildlife that get killed in crop production but can only reduce cruelty so much

You’re insect defence is pretty weak. I always talk about vertical farming instead. We need to accept that crop deaths are wrong, even though not as bad as they make out.
Joey you would get a lot farther in these discussions if you adopted the Socratic method of just asking them questions into the ground. The biggest reason for these escalations turning into noise is because you're making statements that ultimately accuse the person you're with of being a fool. You can still make them feel like a fool, and forward the conversation, if you just ask them questions. Rather than "You're saying you like the taste of meat, so that means you don't give a shit." I imagine it would be better to say "Does enjoying the taste of something justify torturing them?" If you take a look at Ed Winters methods of debate--I find you'd be able to make these discussions more impactful and more satisfying for you. Anyway, love the way you stand up for animals man. As a mad LFC supporter for about 54 years I can assure you that we're not all like this fella. I stumbled on Earthlings 9 years ago and within 15 minutes I was vegan. Did heaps of research (which I still do occasionally) on nutrition, ethics, animal ag then environmental and human welfare/rights issues surrounding our (ab)use of animals and concluded that a vegan lifestyle is the best option by far in all metrics. It's better for our individual health, better for the health of other humans, better for the environment and - obviously - better for the animals. Those that deny this are either ignorant, compassionless, psychopathic or have a vested interest in keeping the status quo. I don't love animals, I just respect all life and want to avoid causing harm to anyone.
