    Only the last 10 seconds were awkward because Stephen was forcing Jai into accepting what could be considered an offensive, stereotypical portrayal of an Australian. I feel like the majority of people judge Jai based on his acting career rather than who he is as a person. I loved him in Spartacus and Suicide Squad, the interview's i've seen of him show that he's willing to share anything and everything with a great sense of humor. He's a genuine dude at heart, godfather to the late Andy Whitfield's children, got a tattoo in memorial and supports the United Service Organization. Despite the fact that no actor has ever remarked having a problem with him, i personally think he's a nice guy, not stupid or awkward as some claim. Let's not all jump on the bandwagon, look into it first. One interview doesn't cut it, it's Stephen after all, he makes everything cringey.

    • @Paperballable
      @Paperballable 3 года назад

  • @BluePiggy
    @BluePiggy 8 лет назад +4

    Wow... I love his comment about Australians liking Canadians. Australians are proud, so saying they find Canadians a little more like themselves is high praise. But boy, talk about obviously side-stepping the question about what Australians think of Americans right now. I hate to imagine what the answer to that question must be.

    • @damienmb88
      @damienmb88 8 лет назад

      Something like: "A bunch of racist*, gun-loving maniacs voting for a racist, gun-loving maniac that looks and sounds like that 'YOU'RE FIRED' guy. The pompous wanker that was on reality TV but surely isn't their presidential nominee because that'd be f*cking ridiculous."
      *Australia's casually-racist and brushes indigenous issues under the carpet, except the police don't tend to shoot people when they get nervous (helps not to have guns everywhere).

    • @danepotmo2513
      @danepotmo2513 8 лет назад +2

      Actually, saying he likes Canadians when asked to judge Americans is as confrontation/direct an answer as could be mustered. It is an answer, which is why everyone laughed so hard.

    • @BluePiggy
      @BluePiggy 8 лет назад +2

      Dane Potmo I agree. That pregnant silence and his frozen smile followed by his tangential remark about Australians liking Canadians sent the very clear message that the true answer to the question Colbert actually asked would be more unpleasant than he wanted to say or the audience would want to hear.

      Damn, that is one hell of a story. Sadly a believable one, as being loud, trying to bang as many chicks as possible, and being lax with drug taking is definitely embedded in our party culture down under. And the thing you do most whilst overseas is party.

    How excited Canadians get in Australia if you ask where in Canada they are from. I started a new job back in the 1990s and was introduced to the Big Boss as we call them. Head of the Department. After his secretary introduced us, I was super shy and didn't really know what to say, but I said "Nice to meet you and what part of Canada are you from" He stared at me and I thought I upset him and was about to cry. He then said "I could hug you right now" sounding like he heard the best thing in his life and a smile from ear to ear. You are the first person in 20 years to be in Australia and not be asked where in America I come from". Feeling the red on my face, I could only squeak out "Well, they must not have listened to you properly or don't know the difference. " Back then I could pick out anyone from anywhere in the world. Today not so much because I lost my listening skills plus with a mixture of various ethnicities it's hard to pin point it sometimes.

    Alot of people talking about how awkward the interview was. I gotta agree, but it's not all Jai's fault. Yes, he's clearly not a complete extrovert so interviews don't seem to come naturally to him. But it's also about the questions. There's more to Australia than frigging boomerangs and crocodile dundee and "throw a shrimp on the barbie". If Americans were going on chat shows and being interviewed on tired old cliche subjects that stereotyped Americans, they might get sick of it after a while too.
