this is amazing considering many Hungarians abroad don't bother to learn their language or just "forget". Him speaking the language having born in America is an example how much his mother respects her roots to the point she taught him one of the hardest languages in the world. She made sure he knows where she was from, knows about his origin and another beautiful culture. respect.
I'm Hungarian, living in Budapest. 4-5 years ago I met with Brody's mother, Sylvia Plachy at the opening of an exhibition of hers in Kunsthalle (Műcsarnok) in Budapest. I only got to know that time that her son is Adrien Brody. It was a suprise for me back then, and since that I pay special attention to the movies in which Brody plays. It was heart-warming to listen now this conversasation and I"m glad that Sylvia is still alive and could give advices to his son for this role.
As a Hungarian, I appreciate the level of nuance and sensitivity he applies to this role. It’s always heartwarming for us to see representation in such a thoughtful way.
After his star turn to La Vie en Rose in Summer of Sam, he’s always had a bit of my heart. Stephen is right, the trailer for The Brutalist is very beautiful. Looking forward to seeing it.
in my youth, here in South Carolina, i had the extraordinary good fortune to be mentored by an exceptional Hungarian musician and choirmaster, Arpad Darazs, student of Zoltan Kodaly, and he instilled not only discipline and rigor in musical performance technique, but a remarkable joie de vivre. he also had the most arresting handclap ever!
My grandfather also left Hungary in 1956 after he got a death sentence but escaped from prison. I never had the chance to meet him cos I was born in 1973 and iron curtain made it impossible to get together and he died in 1979. He founded a new family in the US had two kids so now I have an uncle and an aunt there. So funny... I never knew that Adrien Brody is a fellow Hungarian however I always liked this guy... he looks like my little brother by the way... Greetings from Hungary!
All four of my grandparents immigrated to the U.S. as adults. My parents were both born in the U.S. but spoke English as a second language. I grew up with both Hungarian and English spoken in my home, went to a Hungarian Church outside of Cleveland and was actually a Hungarian dancer on the stage as a child and still cook all of the Hungarian food. I never realized that my straightforward honesty and outspoken emotional communication was necessarily Hungarian. It sometimes throws people off a bit. I thought it had more to do with growing up near Cleveland, OH than being Hungarian. Interesting, the things that we are accustomed to that are not generally considered the norm when raised with parents from a country other than America.
Grew up in school with 2 Hungarian families that escaped Hungary in 1956 in Columbus, Ohio. Smart, hardworking, giving people. Humanity and decency matters.

My grandparents on my mother's side came to America from Hungary. When I looked at Adrien he didn't look Hungarian to me and then I found photos of his mother and she's 100 💯 Hungarian. He's spot on about the traits
My Grandfather escaped Hungary during the time of the revolution, alongside his friend. I feel I have an obligation to him to see this film and think about him while watching. PS, Adrien Brody is certainly right when he describes Hungarians as passionate people.
Oh @adrienbrody.... Hungarian's are *very* outspoken! I tell people i get my outspokenness from my dad and my diabetes from my mother (actually both of my parents are Hungarian; dad came over during the Revolution and mom was born here to two Hungarians).
The entrance always says quite a lot about the guest. We love you Adrien so heartfelt and sincere. #lssc Stephen... No Peaky Blinders? AB rocked his part.
I am the son of a Hungarian immigrant mother. She arrived with her parents seven years after living in refugee camps after WWII. My grandfather was a chemist who spoke no English when they arrived in NJ. After several years of working in a garment factory, he learned enough English to start a job in the pharmaceutical industry. As political refugees, they could not return to Hungary. After over 20 years, they could finally visit with family and friends during the detente in the late 1960s. I'm very much looking forward to seeing this film.
just a bit careful with the USA part, okay? just dig a little behind all this American help, than you will see the whole thing from a different perspective. not saying more, I'll give you the chance to find out for yourself. for instance, there is a reason why Elvis Presley has a statue and a park named after him in Budapest. look that up too while you're at it.
@@XueYangbaby sadly we do not have an Elvis statue (yet), but as a member of the Hungarian Elvis Presley Fan Club, we truly hope that in the future we will have one But the fact, that after Elvis talked about our war, we got a lot of help from abroad and yes, we have a small Elvis Presley park in the Buda side. And America gave a new home and it is a big deal.
As a Hungarian myself to Immigrant parents although I was born and hungry, just watching this little clip it's not just the accent but I was blown away the minor minor mannerisms, you never know the difference. And it's something that nobody can understand unless you're Hungarian there's a certain thing there's a certain look a movement and a timing and it's there but nobody else can tell unless you're Hungarian there's something there that of course probably comes from Adrian's background as well but it's real. Perfect.
@@Ivett-gy5wu He's only a quarter Hungarian, although I'm not sure about that part either since we don't know his biological maternal great-grandfather. What is known for sure is that his maternal grandmother's parents were deported and killed in the Dachau concentration camp because of their Jewish ancestry. Jews living in the U.S like him seem to love picking up an identity based on where their latest ancestors came from and embrace it while they totally dismiss the fact that their people were massacred by those very nations. It mostly happens with Hungarian Jews. Just look at what Jamie Lee Curtis is doing or all those bakeries, butcher shops and streets named after Satmar or Kerestir.

1. My young Hungarian friend is uniquely outspoken in that yes, he always speaks up, but he's so serene about it and always finds the kind perspective to voice. I wonder if this quality is unique to their culture or is it just him. 2, Lazlo's story might have taken some from the real life experience of Erich Mendelsohn-- not Hungarian but much of his work-was destroyed by the 3rd Reich. A founder or Bauhaus school, his designs predated and influenced the brutalist movement.
Just hearing him talk was so wonderful he's just a gem to have with us. Huge fan Brody he seems like an amazing humble guy and Colbert giving him time to talk was even better
So many people ran from wars to reach shores that received desperate people my parents too came for a future of peace/ Ukrainian & Polish peoples in Canada / thank you for telling this story🎉❤
He’s so diplomatic about the Hungarian sensibility. My parents come from Croatia and the talking is kind of like yelling at each other with hands and arms moving around.
He's not gonna win it. It belongs to either Ralph Fiennes for Conclace or Timothe Chalamet. Beside Brody is datiing Georgina Chapman, Harvey Weinstein's ex wife. No one gonna vote for him.
Its sad that some Hungarians, who support a Viktor Orban have such short term memory. The 1956 Hungarian Rebellion vs. their Russian oppressors was brutal. Maybe a lesson to learn for the MAGA people, but doubt so many can grasp what fighting for democracy is all about, espec. when you reduce it to the price of EGGS!
it's especially sad when it's those people who were already alive during 1956. yet they can't see. i am running out of ways to explain but maybe even if they did get to understand it they would be just as hopeless and heartbroken as the rest of us.
True words. The current government is rotted to the core, and they've been purposefully brainwashing people, and sadly it works pretty well. Even if it doesn't the election system makes up for it, so there's very little chance of anyone else winning, and even if that happens, a bunch of people in their inner circle own half of the country so we're doomed..
and here we go again, then wait for your fave baby (petike, yes with lettel letters!) to run the country and you'll see how mistaken you'll be. just wait, Oh, no, better not to see that period, I do hope, it'll be devastating. do you think someone who deliberatly does everything against his country in the EU parliament will be better and will do better for it? THINK! JUST THINK FOR ONCE! god, please enlighten these people like you if you can!
