Thanks for the tutorial. I really found the directional cupped washer information helpful. I put that on upside down on my last blade install. It was extremely hard getting the nuts off this time around. Actually needed to use some break free, piece of wood, breaker bar and every bit of strength to get the old one off. I followed you blade curve acclimation and washer tips this time. Thanks
This is my second season with my S100…I was using the washout port after every mowing. This year after the first mow of the season I used the washout port and hosed down the deck like I always did and when I ran the blades to air dry under the deck I heard a noise like metal on metal whirring noise I think it may be the spindle but not entirely positive. I don’t think I will use the washout port anymore and just scrape it clean from now on.
I never use that washing component John Deere has cleaning the deck, seems likely it will rust, deck and blades. I spray WD-40 under my deck to keep the grass clippings off, are you can scrape them off. It's worth the money to use John Deere blades, them aftermarket blades they don't hold up after many cuttings, im sure they're made in China or Vietnam.
So I took the deck off, took the blades off, sharpened them, put them back on, and now they won't turn by hand, which they did before I removed them. They barely move when i hit them with a mallet. The nut was really hard to get off at first, so I made sure to put it back real tight. The blades are on properly, so what am I doing wrong? I have work to do!
@@MicahMartinDIY After watching again, I think I probably did. Wasn't paying attention to that when I took them off, and my previous JD was cup up. I'll try again.
Careful. I got an Amazon 42 inch blade and the blades would meet and grind in the middle. The tolerance was must have been off less than an eight of an inch on the edges. Took them off and will buy genuine John Deere parts.
Thank you! Yes, these are mulching blades. You can see that I also installed the mulching kit. Well worth the money, as I never have "rows" of clippings now in my yeard and I enjoy the extra maneuverability deleting the shoot adds.
Good lord man. Why not correct the video before putting it on RUclips. I looked at the beginning before you removed the blade and it was cup side down and then 60 seconds before the video is over corrected yourself.

Why not watch the entire video before you attempt to start the project? 😂 What did you do? Start the video…pause it, jack up the mower, watch more video, pause it, get the piece of wood out, watch video, pause it, take the blade off, watch video, pause it….etc etc. 😂
@MicahMartinDIY I knew it was upside down, but always leave your hiccups in the videos. Helps people know what they might run into 🙏🏼 and yes, always watch full videos before even starting a project, I always watch multiple times lol
@@MicahMartinDIY It's held in place by six or seven pins. Takes about five minutes. I don't have to jack up anything and crawl under it and I can inspect everything. I've done it many times. But, to each his own as you say.
You are the only one that tells viewers how to install the washer after the blade is on. Thank you
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad I could help!
@@MicahMartinDIYhe’s being sarcastic.
Just checked out your video and wanted to say that my S100 uses a 15/16" 6 point socket to take the nut off. Have a nice day sir 😊.
Thanks James!

Great video, I have a 3 blades lawn mower, but the concept is the same. thank you.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad that I could help!
Great video. Very useful. I used a different tool instead of the 24mm socket. I used an adjustable wrench. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks Patriot! Adjustable wrenches work fine, but I always worry about slipping and busting a knuckle, which I've done far too many times!
AWESOME TIPS! THANKS VERY MUCH. I HAVE A E120 AND NEED NEW BLADES. GOD BLESS. 😇
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the video! I bought a manual lawn tractor jack for about $75 online
Oh yeah I bet that comes in handy!
You can also use 15/16” standard if you don’t have a 24mm socket. Sorry if anyone else mentioned this but am not going to read all the comments lol.
Thanks eagleeye!
Thank you so much for the info.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the video
You're welcome!
I took my deck off and when I got to the front arm I unscrew it and I forgot which way the washer and screw go and how much to tighten it
Ouch. I’m sorry but I don’t know. I’ve never removed mine.
Good video, thanks for sharing!
Glad to help!

Yeah, I always mow when my grass is dry and I don't get any buildup that way, so I don't use the washout port at all.
@@MicahMartinDIY I also mow when the grass is dry as well except my back yard has a hill that is always wet when the grass gets even a normal long
Great video !!!
Thanks!
A Tekton complete socket set is great, and Gator blades.
Thanks for the tip! What do you like about the Tekton set?

That's a good idea with WD40. I've heard some old-timers say they used to paint it with used motor oil.
ATV lift and battery impact wrench is the best
That's a good idea!
What about left and right sided blades
Not sure what you mean?

Oh wow! Yes, that sounds dangerous!
The blades you took off had the cup side down and then you put the blade on cup side up. Which is correct? My mower came with cup side down.
Yes, I fixed that later. I thought I included that correction in the video.
Appreciate this video! Are these by chance mulching blades?
Thank you! Yes, these are mulching blades. You can see that I also installed the mulching kit. Well worth the money, as I never have "rows" of clippings now in my yeard and I enjoy the extra maneuverability deleting the shoot adds.
Does the mulching blade do the same thing as if you had a stock blade with the mulching kit?
Is it better to lift the front or back of the tractor?
I would say the front. If you lift the back, the front wheels and turn and swing the whole mower to one side. It wouldn't be very safe.
What positions do we put the blade in when reinstalling? I mean like perpendicular or parallel with each other?
The orientation doesn’t matter. They spin independently of each other anyway.
Thanks for the video; however, edit it immediately when you make a mistake.
Thanks for the feedback! Sometimes I include my mistakes for your awareness.
thanks! 🙂
You're welcome!
Good vid but didn't you block the wrong side of your wheel? I would be concerned about the tractor rolling forward, away from the jack
It was pretty secure. The tractor isn't that heavy. I just didn't want it rolling down the slight incline of the driveway.
I wish needing to cut my lawn was fake news! LoL!
True! Mine grows way to fast!
Have you ever lost at thumb wrestling???
Never! Undefeated!

Or you can just remove the mower deck first. Much easier.
Hmmmm. I highly doubt removing the deck would be easier or faster. But to each their own.
Not a chance. I took the blade off in 5 minutes not even jacking it up. Just did it laying in the grass.

Chock your wheel behind the wheel not in front
Good catch.

Make mowing great again?
