    Ground speed, I've found in the Spring especially with my JD zero turn that you get the best cut by slowing down about 20%. The 3-N-1 & Hi-Lift are my favorites.

    Living in Florida, I use what is called a sand blade, because of the huge amount of sand that is here, it doesn’t create as much suction, but the blades last a lot longer.

    Yes and yes. Just a comment The mulching blade/kit is darn nice. To bagging: my experience with the residential ztrs-bagging, has been: to mow twice, first just cut and discharge: close off the discharge-second attach bagger then pick up. Gives a much nicer cut, avoiding clogs. To lift-cut-bag for these mowers is too much. Where I live now I just mulch love the mulch kit / mulch blade.

    After 6 years I purchased new blades for my 1025r 60 inch deck. I got the Oregon hi lift blades but when I installed them I got an intermitent metal to metal sound which I cannot isolate. The blades all look fine without marring. I also installed a lift and go kit at the same time I changed the blades. Now the sound is so great I switch off the deck and can't feel safe using it any longer. I plan on going back to the old blades and uninstall the lift and go one at a time to isolate the sound (if possible). Not sure what's going on but it isn't good. I've had the deck on/off several times looking and cannot find the culprit.

    Good stuff I found the answer I was looking for. thank you! I was pretty sure but needed a second opinion. I have an older gravely commercial 52 and I recently installed a bagger system on it. I used a 55 gallon plastic drum as my collector, bc it didn’t come with the shroud and the bags, just the frame to house the bags and shroud. It also came with the tube and the blower assembly. Which is the most expensive part anyway thank God. AnyWho, it’s has gator blades or mulching blades on it and I’m getting a lot of debris and air blowing out the front right corner of the deck, in front of the blower attachment. There’s not any holes or rotted through places for air to find its way out and it’s really messy and pretty much blows in my face the whole time and the tube is getting plugged up too often. So to fix my issues, I know that the right blade will create better suction and hopefully propel things out through the blower better and more powerfully and hopefully prevent cloggage of the tube. Sound about right? Thank you.

    I have all 3 sets of blades. What angle should I sharpen the mulching blade, the 3 in 1 side discharge and the high lift? I sharpened the outer edge of the mulching at 30 deg and inner edge at 35 deg and the result was not satisfactory.

  • @zacjohnson8404
    @zacjohnson8404 2 года назад +3

    I'm certain your explanation for the 3in1 blade is incorrect and I'm happy to be corrected.
    The raised cutting edge is actually a negative lift edge, it drives the air down. So if you imagine the lift part of the blade is at the edge of the deck driving air up and the negative lift part of blade is suck air down, it's creating a circulating effect where it lifts the clippings at the edge of the deck then drives them down into the ground towards the middle of the deck after they have been circulated a few times. The larger clippings that are falling to the ground will still be sucked back up and cut again but as they get smaller they will pass the top layer of grass and get pushed further down thus hiding your clippings.

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  2 года назад

      I will see if I can get a more clear explanation of this and hopefully get a cutting demo video of all three this spring. Thanks for watching!

    I mow about 12 lawns a week and many of my customers are biweekly and their grass can get a little high in that time. I currently use g6 gatorblades while sode discharging and it does ok,but id like to mulch as many of them as i can this year to save my blowing time after mowing. Its important to mention that sometimes the grass still has dew on it when i mow. Ive got the older style edge extra 42" deck,so ill have to get a mulch plug before i start tge season. Aside from trying my gatorblades i already have,which oem blades may give me the best results for what im doin?

      So your mower should have the 3-in-1 standard blades, so it will mulch. But if you want a finer mulch I would suggest buying some true mulching blades to put on it. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Great video. I have a John Deere X758 and absolutely love the tractor. It was configured with a 7-Iron 60" deck. I have never been happy with the the cut. To be honest I could probably cut a little more frequently, but never let it go for more than a week. I get terrible windrows. I raide the side discharge chute, and it helps but was hoping I could mulch the clippings more like my Toro Super Recycler push mower. I have tried both mulch kids from Deere for my deck - neither fit. I have the standard blades (that are sharp) on the deck. Would it help to move to a 3-in-1 or a mulch blade without mulch baffles?

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  Год назад

      In my opinion you should always mulch. It is better for your grass and puts nutrients back into the soil, but it all depends on the application. You can generally mow faster if you are doing side discharge so that could be one advantage.

    So ona 42” LA 130 what is the optimum blade placement for the three blades? All of them installed at the 12’ o’clock position or do they need to be 90’ out of phase of each blade??? Thanks for the response in advance

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  2 года назад

      On these mowers the blades are not timed so you can slap them on however you would like. As far as any optimum position, I have not heard of placing them one way or the other will increase material processing or discharge, so this is truly up to your preference. Thanks for watching!

    If I put a mulching kit on my Z300 series, can I still bag if I flip the lever to open the discharge chute? I have read mixed responses to this question. Someone also commented that he could still attach the bagging kit if he remove one deflector section from the mulch kit. Can you confirm whether this will work? I would hate to lose the ability to bag in the fall just because I have a mulch kit installed.

    There are mulching blades that have finger-like structures. How do they perform compared to the one you describe here? I have a John Deere LA115 42" deck tractor and just installed a mulching plug. I assume the original blades are universal 3in1s. When cutting the grass on my property I notice that most of the dandelion stems are not cut properly, so I need to drive over 2 times... What blade do you recommend for best mulching on this tractor? There is alot of confusion and not clear description at Amazon and even Home Depot can't really help... Thank you in adavnce, Lutz

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  2 года назад +2

      The blades with the finger type things you are talking about are commonly called "gator blades" they are great for mulching because those surfaces add extra cutting surfaces for the grass to be processed under the deck. Also standard mulching blades will do a good job, but sometimes this all depends on the grass type. I would try both to see which one works better for you. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Do you have John Deere part numbers for these? On the Deere parts web site (the one you link to) I find three different blade sets and part numbers AM141031, 141033, and 141034 but only the 1031 is listed by a description that matches your video, "Mower Blade Kit,3-in-1, 42 inch". The other two do not have descriptions that describe what that are for e.g. mulching or bagging as you describe in your video. I am looking for a mulching blade, yes the 3-in-1 does mulch but I was thinking a dedicated mulching blade would work better for my application considering that I never bag or side discharge.
    Thanks for the videos/educations. the deck leveling video was particularly informative for me...didn't know this was important let alone how to do it.

    I'm a new John Deere owner with a E110 42 inch mower. I just bought the rear bagger and installed it (very easy) but undecided on whether to just keep the standard blades on or put on the high lift blades that came with the bagger. I'm mostly interested in getting up leaves and I have a fairly large yard with several trees. I want to limit how many times I have to dump the bags. Any suggestions?

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  2 года назад

      The standard blades will do a lot better at mulching the leaves before they get to the bags.

      I have a Deere E130 with a mulcher plug. My back yard - about 6000 SF - was completely covered with leaves. Almost no grass visible. I went over it once with the mower set low - and it came out looking like it did in the middle of summer - not a leaf on it. I usually use the plug and tow a sweeper towards the end of summer.

    Can you run John Deere mulching blades without the mulch kit installed in a Z740R? If so, what would be the effect? Would the grass still be held in the chambers longer and still develop shorter clippings or would this be ineffective or cause other problems? I'm concerned with installing the baffle plates in the Pro Cut 54" deck and reducing the designed air flow characteristics of the deck design and possibly cause clumping or accumulation issues. Thanks for your input!

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  2 года назад +1

      Yes, you can run mulching blades without the kit. You will not get as good of discharge but I highly doubt you will notice much of a difference. Since the mulching blades have more cutting edge length you will definitely be getting more cuts and smaller clippings so they will still be doing their job as intended, but the clipping will not be mulched as fine as if you had the baffle kit installed of course. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      This can go either way. Some are sharpened at 30 and some at 35. either way as long as you go down from the standard blade angle which is 45 then you should be ok. Good question and thanks for watching!

    Thank you for this. Very helpful.
    I do have a question - maybe you can help:
    I am interested in getting the Oregon Gator blades for my Z365R to help mulch up leaves this fall.
    However... Oregon doesn't seem to have any matching Gator blade product for the OEM blade used on the Z365R. The JD OEM blade part number for the Z365R is UC25185.
    I cannot find any equivalency mapping for that OEM part number to any Oregon Gator blade part number.
    I guess the question to ask at this point:
    Is there a real difference between the blade on a Z365R (which includes a mulching kit) and the mulching kit blades on other JD Z300 series ZT mowers?
    Thank you for all you do sir.

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  2 года назад +1

      Here are the blade specs for your blades on your Z365R to help you match to the correct aftermarket blades. There is also a good option from Sunbelt that can be bought through John Deere dealerships called Predator blades. Specs for UC25185:
      Length 17.047 IN
      Width 2.604 IN
      Thickness 0.156 IN
      Wing Height 0.906 IN
      Hole Size 0.797 IN

    • @AllanSitte
      @AllanSitte 2 года назад

      @@WesternEquipment Thank you for your quick response!
      I'll look into the Predator blades and see if I can find an equivalent match.
      Still very strange that finding information about compatible aftermarket blades isn't already easy to do. The Z365R has been out for more than a year already.
      Keep up the great work! Be safe and be well.

    The John Deere mulching blades for a Z345R are not that good when you're cutting high. You get grass blades that were left bend over or leaning that weren't cut all the way. There's not enough sucktion to stand the grass blades up for a precise cut like the high lift blades.
