    Changed the oil on my S100 for the first time this morning. Just like yours, the oil filter was screwed down ridiculously tight. I have a pliers type oil filter tool so I could get ahold of it just fine, but it took a lot of force to get it turning, and I had to crush it pretty badly to get a tight enough grip on it.

    I have a flat 3/4 of an acre. I don't need a big mower, it can be 30" but nothing bigger than 42", because right now I use a push mower, while that is great for a excellent work out, I'm not getting any younger (60 yrs) and anything is better than walking for 3 hours especially in a North Carolina summer. By the way, I don't need to have a Zero Turn mower, just a solid and not expensive vehicle. I was leaning towards a John Deere, but open. Thank you for your suggestions!

      Thanks Erich! I'm in NC as well and I hope I'm still moving as much as you when I turn 60! This is a great mower for medium size yards such as yours and mine.

    alot of people don't know about the first oil change, all new engines have metal shavings in it.
    I change my oil after running it for a few hours to get rid of the metal shavings.
    I like that Mulch shield you have on there.
    Back in the old days we would hammer a screwdriver in that filter take it right off.
    I run pure gas also.

    • @MicahMartinDIY
      @MicahMartinDIY  10 месяцев назад

      Yes the ethanol free is the way to go on small engines. I love that mulching kit too, it works really well!

      @MicahMartinDIY I paid $5.29 a gallon for pure here in Nashville, Tennessee, for my John Deere S100 the other day. I have a 25 year old Craftsman push mower 4.5 HP with 21 inch cut, I have use ethanol in it for years and will continue to, it starts on the first pull and don't burn a drop of oil.

    I had the same problem with my 1st oil filter. My only thought was maybe they do it to discourage DIY. Also I thought maybe it's to prevent theft because many big box stores have these tractors stored out side where it would be easy to come along and steal the oil filter. I had a different type of filter wrench that tightens onto the filter the more your turn it with a breaker bar. It worked.

    • @MicahMartinDIY
      @MicahMartinDIY  7 месяцев назад +2

      Both of those ideas are plausible, even though I can't picture stealing an oil filter, but you never know these days. Glad you were able to service yours!

    Great vid thanks! Just bought my first Deere (super used lol…about 15 years old). It’s an L100, but I’m assuming a lot of your methods will be the same for mine. Wouldn’t start yesterday, so I’m hoping a tune-up will do the trick!

      There you go, yes I'd go through all of these things, it should help. Especially the fuel filter and the spark plug. I'd drain the old gas out too.

    On the oil filter not coming out, just jam a screwdriver thru it. One of those long thick ones will give you the torque you need.

    One question: Do you really need to replace everything every season ? For example, lets say I mow my lawn once a week for 1-2 hours. Do Spark Plugs need to be changed after just 1 season or is it just recommended ? I can understand oil and filters but spark plug sounds excessive,.

    • @MicahMartinDIY
      @MicahMartinDIY  17 дней назад +1

      I do it every year to be safe, but check the maintenance frequency on your maual and refer to your hour meter. I run mine about 25 hours per season.
