I went to a beauty school to get my haircut and since my hair is so thick and long I've been quoted a ridiculous amount of money from real salons. The beauty school charged me $15. And The girl who cut my hair has thin hair but she did wonderful on my hair, she blow dried it to perfection ❤
The hair salon "rant" was so true about the prices!!! I will also never forget the one (hairdresser) who didn't have "growing hair" (yes, I am catty),and cut my waist length hair into a bob instead of an asymmetrical trim!! I had closed my eyes and leaned back in the chair, and snip!!! I opened my eyes to see my hair on the floor! No doubt she was pleased that she wouldn't have to charge me for the "lenght" anymore! I never went back!

It looks so good on dark skin. Black women in white or very bright colors are just chef kiss. Tbh even just white tan skin in the summetime and than anything white. It just pops.
Last time I went to the salon was 2 years ago. Braider was 20 minutes late, didn't look at me or introduce herself nor apologized and she set up for 20 more minutes not speaking to me. Finally asked me what hair I brought and insisted it wasn't enough. I was charged 300 dollars 6 hours later....
I could so relate to hair struggles I have very curly short hair so I'm currently doing my own hair because I can't risk a tragedy. LOL. I'll be on the hunt once it grows out long .
As a NYC native hair has been nothing but trauma and still to this day going to hair braiders that act the same as Kelly described crusty dog and musty husband included! I've also had so much trauma from specifically Dominican hair salons burning my scalp and leaving scabs on my head. I never get blowouts anymore maybe someday but I wish people would be more courteous or understanding of different hair types. I didn't ask to be born with hair type it grows out of my head this way stylists need to keep comments about my hair texture to themselves especially if I'm paying you to do it shut tf up!!!😊
If you’re in south Florida I used to model and work for silk-press express Miami. I can definitely recommend them incase the dry bar does not work out long term. They are black owned salon and they have a location in Miami or Broward. 🙂 spending less than 200 depending on treatments , length etc.
I agree a lot of these stylists have outrageous prices on top of outrageous rules. I do think we should pay people what they're worth. $35 for a silk press sounds nice, but at what cost? Are they actually a licensed professional that will wash, condition, blow dry and straighten my hair? Will my hair revert back? Will the silk press actually last? I'm willing to pay a little more for a licensed professional who actually knows how to work with my hair texture(without adding perm 😬) and can help me meet my hair goals. Thankfully, I have found that person and don't have to pay a ridiculous amount of money, but it's not cheap either.

Kelly I live in Miami too! And I’m from up north DC/MD area where they can do hairrrrr I went and got my hair done for the first time around Ft. Lauderdale. I drove and allll just to be overcharged and have the worst experience. The woman was so rude & did a terrible job on my hair

OMG... just had this issue. I paid $52 for a blowout and then was asked do I want my hair in a ponytail or two cornrows (which implied that either option came with the blowout)? I said just put it in (2) braids... I was charged $30 for two braids. I hate this slick $hi+++
Hairdressers are rude and lazy AF. I caught them putting blonde color on my hair as highlights instead of actually lifting my hair. My hair os hard to deposit color so Vol 10 does nothing and they freak out. Charge me hundred then my “highlights” wash out. I do it myself with vol 30.
You should go to Paul Mitchell in Pasadena. They produce world class cosmetologist.❤ and its $16 flat because they're a beauty school. I'll be going to school there in January of 2025.
