    Good timing! I’ve just begun a keto style super low carb diet. The carbs aren’t worth the migraine triggering effects they give me.

      Hopefully you don't plan to do this long term. Disastrous for your gall bladder, liver and kidneys/adrenals over time.

      I sustained it at one point for about 2 years. I was arguably at my best during that period of time. Like they said in the video, some people run better on different fuel sources. Carbs in moderate to high amounts does not do me good.

      @bigpicturegains literally no human body runs to thrive without carbs. We all have the same cellular needs and responses to famine. I tried to help you. Good luck.

      @bigpicturegains I've spent over 35 years training and feeding athletes, and working alongside MDs who specilaize in eating disorders. It's my career and passion. So yes, I know a lot. You're welcome for the free education.

    Ketone IQ is interesting. It's not ketones, but some sort of alcohol, metabolised by the liver.
    Some say it's bogus.
    However, I personally can't stomach real ketone salts. Gives me the shits. And I can drink a few of the ketone IQ shots without GI issues.
    They seem to make the liver produce the right ketones (D-BHB) and I see a sharp rise on my CKM that lasts a couple of hours (depending on demand).
    I'm eating ketogenic and use the shots just to fill gaps during the day.
    I didn't experience any drowsiness that some claim.

    I was doing the keto fad long before it was cool. It was good at first but after 4 years I developed low testosterone. My sleep sucked and my competitive running suffered. I looked like I was living in a concentration camp. I’m a 64 year old male and switch back to a 50% healthy carbs with lots of whole grains, beans, lentils and potatoes. 30 % protein and 20% fats. Result now my testosterone back up. Sleep is improved. And my competitive running back on point. My muscle mass has completely changed for the better. Never going back to the keto cult. And I now enjoy a variety of foods

      50% carbs is too high.
      And where do you get test levels dropped from no carbs? More likely your age, and you are now on test booster of some sort if you state it’s back up.
      Test levels start to drop after late 20-early 30’s. At your age, more that, not diet

    Your liver makes ketones if you let it. It is supposed to. Ketones are required mainly by our heart and large brain. Not being in ketosis leads to all kinds of problems. We see this in how fat and sick we are.
    Here is the deal: constantly consuming glucose ("carbs") blocks ketosis. Your liver makes all the glucose you need. Any you eat is extra and causes priblems. We need to eat fat and protein and then our liver makes glucose and ketones. So I guess you could say there are 4 macronutrients. Just like with glucose you do not need to, nor should you cosume ketone products.

      For some people taking ketones can help them get over the carb addiction. I have seen people start drinking ketones and slowly over a few months switch to a keto diet and be extremely successful. One guy had tried to do keto diet for years. Yes in perfect world just do diet. But if you have diseases and hormone imbalances it can be hard without help

    Oy, the keto and gluconeogenesis trends. I've seen these terrible approaches cycle in and out of diet culture for decades. The long term effects of ketosis- a survival mechanism to keep from dying during perceived famine - are quite serious and far outweigh any positives. All 3 macros are required to thrive.

    • @pelawler15
      @pelawler15 День назад +3

      The famine part is true yes. But if theres no famine and you have access to good fats, you dont need carbs. Carbs are less energy dense, therefore a quick form of energy if needed if there is no other options. No reason to eat large amounts of carbs if you have fats.

    • @Kinesiology411
      @Kinesiology411 День назад

      @@pelawler15 First, I never once suggested eating "large amounts" of any macro. Second, as every cell in the body runs on glucose and prefers it, using protein to make that makes no sense, wastes aminos and is very tough on the kidneys, and ketosis is meant to keep you alive, not a way in which to thrive, and is brutal on the gall bladder, liver and kidneys. Having all 3, in the proper balance for your own needs, is how you thrive.

      Carbs make your life optimal. If carbs aren’t essential then your liver wouldn’t produce it. Might as well just eat the carbs and save your body from the stress from gluconeogenisis
