      @ataramprat 5 лет назад +5

      @Councilman Les Wynan United didn't "take" Continental's dated, generic, early 1990's corporate identity. Continental forced their crappy color scheme onto United, which had a beautiful livery and logo designed by Saul Bass, one of the great logo designers of the 20th century, who not only designed the United "tulip", but also the logos of AT&T, Quaker Oats, United Way, Kleenex, USPS, and others.

    • @ataramprat
      @ataramprat 5 лет назад +1

      @Councilman Les Wynan I never said he created the Quaker Oats man; I said he designed one of its many iterations over the years. And no, they did't go back to the original design (which dates to 1877)...they simply kept updating it over the years.

    For those that say United still has all the Continental branding, that's not really true anymore. A key element of Continental's branding that has been there since 1992, regardless of whatever new business class seat or direcTV system they introduce, was Continental's two-tone blue cabin. Sidewalls, other walls, and tray tables are light blue while seats are dark blue. Sure, United still uses dark blue seats, but they got rid of the blue tray tables and walls in favor of mostly white walls and tray tables. Bulkheads have a dark blue bottom half and bulkheads at the front of premium cabins have a gray top half, but unless you sit in a bulkhead row, the blue bottom half is not very visible and the gray top half is only at the center bulkheas for widebodies while the side bulkheads in Polaris cabins have a white top half.

    For those that say United's problems come from Continental management, let me make an analogy. American Airlines has been run by US Airways management since 2015. While under US Airways management, American Airlines has seen cancellations of Airbus A350 orders, the retirement of Airbus A330s, and orders for more Boeing 787s. Does that mean US Airways favored Boeing widebodies over Airbus widebodies? No, the reason why US Airways management decided to use Boeing widebodies is because of contracts inherited from AA. Same thing at United, Continental management had to inherit policies and contracts from United, the only things inherited from Continental were management and branding. Therefore, saying that Continental was worse than United is like saying that US Airways preferred Boeing widebodies.

    I flew Continental when I was an 18-year old fresh out of high school to visit my family in Arkansas (This was only a vacation. I wasn't looking at Colleges or anything while I was there 😀) the crew was very nice (side note: I was traveling as an Unaccompanied Minor. I have Asperger's Syndrome and as well as a seizure disorder and I guess at the time, my dad who I was still living with at the time thought I would need someone to meet me and take me to my gate as I traveled through these connections in case anything were to happen (Which nothing did. I've been seizure free for almost nine years.) Now that United has taken over, I have only had 2 problems with them. Both of them include some form of being stuck or rerouted somewhere.During the holidays in 2009, my dad and I finally get to the gate at EUG (Eugene Airport-this is the airport where I live) and see the lady at the United desk. And she tells us that the plane has already left.Now picture in your mind a ripe red juicy tomato. That's how red my dad's face was as he's yelling at this woman After several moments of this lady and my dad going back and forth, I finally get rerouted to San Fransisco.Then, three years later, I was waiting in the Denver Airport for my plane to Arkansas to show up. Two hour delay turns into four hours. Four hours turns into six and I'm wondering WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?! My sensory overload is THROUGH THE ROOF at this point! Suddenly, I get a notification on my United Airlines app saying the flight was cancelled. Now I'm all frazzled so I have to go to guest services which is ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TERMINAL.Once I get there and to the front of the line, I try to explain what happened and at first, I get this impression of no empathy from her because I'm freaking out! Everything was going smoothly and it got f*cked up! I needed some help! (The same shit happened recently on a American Airlines flight. Not only did I have to go back and forth with the AA employee at LAX about getting me a room because she told me everything was booked which was a hot steaming pile of bullshit if I ever heard it. Not only did that happen but they kept my luggage at the airport for a few days and it didn't make it to my door until the following Friday) But anyway back to United and this story that happened in 2012, I had to get my dad and my grandfather who paid for the tickets on the phone and tell them what happened because the "friendly" folks at United DIA wanted to keep me there for two days. Finally after some back and forth between the folks at the United desk, my dad and my grandfather and myself, I finally got accommodations to a hotel and a flight out for the next day. At least they had enough decency to give my luggage back whenever I had to fly with them.
