Are you planning to make a video to make a build that clicky switches sounds good by any chance? Cuz when I see people make a custom clicky build, they usually use cherry profile keycaps and in a metal case that doesn't have any good amount of space which I think it's the worst thing they can do with clickies in terms of sound. Ik clickies sounds best in a plastic hollow case with tall keycaps like SA or MT3 profile so just wondering what's the most optimal way of making a clicky keyboard build! Love the video btw! ^^

Is it just me or does it sound sort of hollow even with the silicone. Still like the sound but just curious if that was the switches moreso than the board
Great showcase! Did you put the screws without o rings around the alphas? Or did you not screw those points at all and only the outer perimeter ones with the o rings?
@@Keybored Ive been enjoying the HPE switches alot. You need to try to get a Blue Sky Cloud Tactile, 13.9mm POM stem length, full HPE housing. It feels like a purple panda on crack. It's fantastic.
Good day brother. Planning to get a barebone kit. Just want to ask if there is a specific keycap set for V1? Like in K2 where pgdn, pgup, home, end have different heights.
is the o-ring mount also good to do on the other V series boards or is there something with the V1's tray mount placement that makes it exceptionally good with the mod?
Hey Scott, great video as always! I am just wondering what the name of the keycap that you had on your Q1 is called. Would appreciate if you could tell me cause they look so clean!
i have been using the keychron v1 for a couple months now and i have to say, the stock keycaps are shit. the place where the switch stem is meant to go into the keycap breaks after months of typing which causes in the keycaps springing off the switch. i need to get new caps
I got the barebones version and put my own switches and keycaps in. It's a little more expensive, but I think it turned out better than the stock switch and keycaps.
Hey, Scott. You called the sound profile without O-rings muddy. Would that make so-called creamy-sounding keyboards muddy as well? Thanks for the video!
It's like in audio, when they say the sound is muddy... it's a bit heavy sounding and doesn't have the upper mids and highs to brighten it up. I say the o-rings really help with that and adds that pop
Hey keybored would you recommend this keyboard or the gas67 for a budget keyboard? And could you review the gas67 that would be really cool on what you can come up with it
The biggest problem with Keychron custom boards is that they are wired. Why can’t they add a battery and a wireless feature. It seems there is plenty of space in the current case design.
I would guess that many in the community just don’t care about wireless connectivity in their customs. Adds cost, upkeep, and numerous extra points of failure. Personally, I’ll take wired every time, save the money for caps or switches.
If the o-rings are placed between the plate and the foam do they really have a noticeable impact for most of you? Is it nonsense to place them after the foam touching directly the posts of the lower case just above the PCB?
This is an old video but I hate looking for answers to questions and no one replies, especially on old vids haha. I'm looking at doing this with my V5, not for the sound but to soften the harshness of the steel plate. The o-rings have nothing to do with the foam. The plate foam has holes in it where the standoffs of the case go up and through the PCB/foam sandwich. There's also holes in the foam for the standoffs of the plate that secure the PCB to it with screws from the bottom. The o-rings will just sit inside the holes in the foam and up against the bottom of the plate. You can see all these holes in the plate foam at 5:05 of the video. The o-rings will sit on directly on top of the plastic standoffs of the case. The plate then sits on top of the o-rings.
The only thing I'm worried about is this puts the PCB/plate assembly up slightly higher in the case. The holes in the case where the USB cable and Mac/Win switch are might have to be enlarged a little bit at the top.
@@JohnnyK-tf6ig Thanks for your reply mate, appreciate your help. I see that the wholes in the foam, you are pointing out in the video, are much bigger than the ones on my foam. Maybe it changed with newer units. Mine are so small that seems that the o-rings are mostly in touch with the foam, letting the screws go through the standoffs but seemingly the standoffs barely or not at all touch the o-rings. Anyway I'll try it and let you know how it goes.
You shouldn't worry about this. We both missed the point that the rings sit above the PCB in the standoffs so it doesn't affect the position of the USB cable and switch. Also, I've done the mod and to be honest don't seem much of a difference.
@@Keybored They could be a 3rd revision or the v2s with Smokey housings. I don’t know for sure because there is not much content about it. Krepublic sells 110 for 34 cents on Amazon. They seem to be clackier than the gold variant. Would really like to hear your thoughts and opinions on them.
Will the oring trick work on Tester 84 keyboard? It has very similar mounting style Also, if anybody has a link on Ali for these orings, it would be much appreciated
Hey Scott, I was wondering the whole time since the video of your o-rings tofu 60 and GK61. Should the o-rings help the keyboard have a softer bottom out so it’ll make the typing experience feel much better? Since you said the o-rings won’t make the keyboard any bouncier.
@@Keybored thank you so much, Scott. Your videos are always helpful, funny and relaxing to watch. Hope to see more of your contents and keep up the good work.
I didn't want to go with the PE foam route since it made the board sound marbley. Also, the O-Rings help to provide a bit of cushion/dampening and helps the keyboard be a bit more comfortable as well

Is it just me or does it sound sort of hollow even with the silicone. Still like the sound but just curious if that was the switches moreso than the board
How would it feel if I put o-rings on all of the stand offs? I plan on getting this keyboard and I am thinking of trying it.
Great showcase!
Did you put the screws without o rings around the alphas? Or did you not screw those points at all and only the outer perimeter ones with the o rings?
you do the latter and only screw in the points with o rings
Great video! Quick question, what’s your favorite 65% budget keyboard under $200?
Kohaku
The QK65 I believe is at the top
The Ktechs S1 switches seem to be a Tecsee Blue Sky Cloud Linear with a different bottom housing. Interesting
Tecsee has making a lot of switches! The KBDFans one is like that too and they all sound so good
@@Keybored Ive been enjoying the HPE switches alot.
Nice! If I were to upgrade the stabs, which ones would you recommend?
I hope kbdfans will release kbd75 lite after tiger lite
That would be good! Or the Tiger75 or Tiger65
is the o-ring mount also good to do on the other V series boards or is there something with the V1's tray mount placement that makes it exceptionally good with the mod?
Should work with all other V series boards too, as well as actually any other tray mounted board
Why don't people put o-rings on switch stems anymore?
q1 vs v1 what would you recomend? Is the q1 worth 3x the price?
Hey Scott, great video as always!
I am just wondering what the name of the keycap that you had on your Q1 is called.
Would appreciate if you could tell me cause they look so clean!
It's the dolch set! You can get it in GMK, DCX and also ePBT
@@Keybored Thank you so much!
did the o ring mod make the keys towards the center of the keyboard feel much clackier? i am having this issue specifically with my board.
Is the o-ring process the same with a polycarbonate plate?
So which barebones kit should I get instead of the barebones v1? I have a $160 budget
Im new to costum keyboards and i was thinking of modding my ducky one 3 tkl so iwas wondering if i could use switch lube for the stabilizers?
My V1 sounds the same as yours. yehey
Which o-rings did you use?
Do you think this needs a wristrest for it to be comfortable or is it okay without? Thanks for the great video also!
Honestly, this keyboard is super low in the front, even more so than the Q1. I would actually be ok using it without a wrist rest.
@@Keybored That's good to hear. I used to have a k8 after it met a glass of orange juice rip and I couldn't use it comfortably without the wrist rest.
Looks we can direct make it be gasket mounted with Q1's plate and cut off all the standoff?
Unfortunately no. The Q1 is a much thicker case and also has the area for the plate and gaskets to sit on.
you can only make it like sandwich mount , but no flex at all .
i have been using the keychron v1 for a couple months now and i have to say, the stock keycaps are shit. the place where the switch stem is meant to go into the keycap breaks after months of typing which causes in the keycaps springing off the switch. i need to get new caps
I got the barebones version and put my own switches and keycaps in. It's a little more expensive, but I think it turned out better than the stock switch and keycaps.
@@coolbrotherf127 i sold mine and got a whole new keyboard
backlight are only RGB? Or only white is possible?
And could you review the gas67 that would be really cool on what you can come up with it
I haven't had a chance to try out the Gas67 personally, but I've heard good things about it! I've been meaning to get a hold of one
Awesome video editing and a nice set/mod :)
Could you please tell what dimensions o ring you used?
I added the links in the description below! There are 2 sizes and both work :)
@@Keybored oops, didn't see that, thank you!
The biggest problem with Keychron custom boards is that they are wired. Why can’t they add a battery and a wireless feature. It seems there is plenty of space in the current case design.
I believe they have the K series boards for that. The K8 PRO is essentially the wireless TKL with VIA and QMK
I would guess that many in the community just don’t care about wireless connectivity in their customs. Adds cost, upkeep, and numerous extra points of failure.
Personally, I’ll take wired every time, save the money for caps or switches.
@@alanschmitt9865 a wire is a point of failure.
@@bngr_bngr and adding a battery adds more wires.
@@alanschmitt9865 Keychron wireless boards don’t have a problem with its batteries. You can always use a socket instead of wires.
@@JohnnyK-tf6ig that's also a good observation I'll check in mine if there's space for the o-rings and let you know
You shouldn't worry about this. We both missed the point that the rings sit above the PCB in the standoffs so it doesn't affect the position of the USB cable and switch. Also, I've done the mod and to be honest don't seem much of a difference.
what size o rings did you use?
does anyone know the stabilizer sizes for the keychron v1, im trying to buy durok v2 but idk if the size is right
V1 Wireless? When?!
No idea haha
Key mr. Keybored, can you review the gateron cap v2 crystal blacks? Very few people have reviewed it.
Are they different from the standard gold ones?
@@Keybored They could be a 3rd revision or the v2s with Smokey housings. I don’t know for sure because there is not much content about it. Krepublic sells 110 for 34 cents on Amazon. They seem to be clackier than the gold variant. Would really like to hear your thoughts and opinions on them.
Will the oring trick work on Tester 84 keyboard? It has very similar mounting style
Also, if anybody has a link on Ali for these orings, it would be much appreciated
If the mounting style is similar, it should still work!
Hey Scott, I was wondering the whole time since the video of your o-rings tofu 60 and GK61. Should the o-rings help the keyboard have a softer bottom out so it’ll make the typing experience feel much better? Since you said the o-rings won’t make the keyboard any bouncier.
It helps to dampen the downward force and accentuates the plate/pcb sound Vs. the case sound.
@@Keybored thank you so much, Scott. Your videos are always helpful, funny and relaxing to watch. Hope to see more of your contents and keep up the good work.
tbh it sounds pretty fire stock
TAPE MOD! TAPE MOD! TAPE MOD!
Hey Scott, what are your thoughts about putting some PE foam in there instead?
I didn't want to go with the PE foam route since it made the board sound marbley. Also, the O-Rings help to provide a bit of cushion/dampening and helps the keyboard be a bit more comfortable as well
Just missing the gasket mount 😓
Yup. I think they did it intentionally to not cannibalize the Q1 sales
In addition to the o rings, how does adding the tape mod help for the sound profile?
It'll make it slightly deeper, louder
@@Keybored If you've tried it, would you recommend it?
Scott would you still recommend the bakaneko60 in 2022?
I would. There aren't as many gummy mounted keyboards and with a little bit of modding, the Bake is still a great feeling and sounding board.
Is this really just all about acoustics or does this actually help performance?
yes it does help with performance when you are playing something like o2jam
yo u should try out the akko v5075 it basicly cheaper and kinda better
