Very in depth and goes into detail how to do every single thing and shows us the benefits of doing them thank you! I'm actually waiting on my V1 to come in this coming week so this is perfect timing as now I know what to do to it and how to do that.
V1 was my first customizable mechanical and my partner liked it so much, she basically stole it from me lol. I just ordered a V3 (TKL) barebones kit for only $56 on black friday sale and I am very excited to build it out. Eventually I'll upgrade to a Q series but if anyone is unsure, this series is really great value for a sub $100 board. Amazon and Divinkey also carry them (maybe few other vendors) so you can save on the shipping rather than buying direct from keychron.
I got my board this week and am running pretty much the same setup, v1 w/ gateron milky pros. Sounds very marbly and poppy with pe foam and tape. Also waiting for some o-rings to come in :)
you dont need any o rings , just cut off those standoffs and put another poron foam at the top of the stock silicone foam , and lay down the pcb on the poron foam , i did that and it sounds more thocky than this video , by the way nice modding video bro !
For me, I have the fully assembled knob version of the V1, and it sounds better than all the mods you did… My assumption is the OSA profile keycaps, and the quality of them. The switches seem really good too, and I haven’t even tape modded it
this one really doesn't need any mod , because if you " foam" too much , any switches won't have any sound difference . i just put some best switches and decent ASA keycaps it sounds way better than all of my alu board .
Awesome video! Was thinking of a very similar build and wanted to find someone who did something similar. Would adding three layers of tape change the sound profile or is just one layer the best option?
It sounds amazing, bro! I am new into the keyboards world, received my V1 today with Akko Yellow Cream switches., gonna get into modification process after the work. How many layers of the tape did you apply?
Yes I saw one of those in another video and thought about getting it before I found this method. Cleaning the stabs with canned air literally takes less than a minute per stabilizer and works sooo well.
did u leave it that way after, i feel like it sounds clackier now with the pe/tempest in your sound tests. could be the angle of the mics etc with each take.
It's all about taste, but i think it can be done properly in this keyboard. I believe the top case/frame has enough clearance to the plate to use o-rings. Otherwise you would just sandwich them in too much when you close up the case. You should be able to control the compression of the o-rings on the plate mount screws alone.
You also need to take out the tray mount screws from the top of the plate to get the plate and PCB out. If you tape mod you will still see the RGB from the top.
I can't remember the exact content of the video but I think you mean PE foam and Holee Mod? PE foam will create a lower, more creamy sound of the keystroke. The Holee Mod gets rid of stabilizer rattle.
Hi im just getting into building keyboards and i read online that not every keycap fits on every switch so i found out that if i buy the V1 i can only put on keycaps with the cherry mx profile i understood that so far but do i have to look out for something else too or just the profile?
V1 should be fine for any profile? That keycaps that the keychron prebuilts come with aren't cherry. The main incompatibility that people talk about is north facing PCB'S/Switches and cherry profile keycaps. The keycaps contact the top switch housing when pressed on certain rows.

Just got this one and out of the box sounds better than any boards I modded in the same price range. Keycaps are solid too.
is the stabilizers good and pre lubed? or do i need to lube it manually
@@TheKillerZmile mine is really good. No ticking or rattle on any stabs. I may have gotten a lucky set of stabs tho
@@xxcridonxx7614 same here, sound very good and generously pre-lubed lol

I just got a q2 (two actually but they both broke so im returning them tmr so dont get the q2) and they sounded amazing
like marbles
damn bro i want this, this is so soothing to my ears! nice job modding this keyboard bro
Thanks! It's a nice keyboard 👍

Just ordered one, love this mod guide so much

you did a great job. I would love to see companies collab with you
i got mine here and it sounds exactly the same :)

It's a very nice keyboard for sure.
Awesome video! Was thinking of a very similar build and wanted to find someone who did something similar. Would adding three layers of tape change the sound profile or is just one layer the best option?
sounds change between one, two, and three layers of tape. however 4, 5, and 6+ will sound very the same as just three layers.
It sounds amazing, bro! I am new into the keyboards world, received my V1 today with Akko Yellow Cream switches., gonna get into modification process after the work. How many layers of the tape did you apply?
I think 3 normally 👍
Recommend an ultrasonic cleaner for future stab cleaning. Frees up time cleaning one thing while you work on something else to mod.

best sound comparison! gj
Thanks!
very nice keycaps
holy shit I like the modded version
🤣 thanks mate.
I heard the stabs give off a pinging noise in this board stock? Am I incorrect?
Sounds great! I'm looking forward to modding my V1! Do you also consider o-rings to be a good option for modding this keyboard?

In this video no spacebar sound test I need to compare with my own V1 hahaha

Is it worth the effort
To access behind the PCB can we just unscrew the gold screw of the case ? (for doing tempest mod for exemple) And leds still works ?
You also need to take out the tray mount screws from the top of the plate to get the plate and PCB out. If you tape mod you will still see the RGB from the top.
ok thx for your answer ! :)@@keebface
the sound of the stabilizer changed because of the foam sticker or because of the holee mod?

what pe foam did u use the one I bought was breaking the pins on my switches

Its in Spanish, but you'll be able to get the same from any country on Amazon.
How many layers of tape did you put for the tape mod?
I think just 2 on this one.
I'm not 100% it needs it. A new video is out tomorrow where I just do the switch lube, holee mod, and PE foam on the V3, and it turned out great.
How many millimeters of PE foam do you use?
I use really thin packing foam bags off Amazon. Doesn't specify a thickness, but its thin.

Can you please list what mods you did?
All in the description.
Where did you buy the switches?
Aliexpress, but lots of shops sell them depending on where you live.
Can you it to me i have a membrane please
no o-ring fake gasket mod? shameless
🤣
it sound kinda hollow
