Nah, leave this theme for the true gladiators of the 90’s and early 2000’s. Not the tik tok and the complaining on twitter (or X, whatever) generation.
CBS introduced this theme song for the very first time during there telecast of Super Bowl XXVI on January 26th, 1992 (Redskins and Bills). It officially became the NFL on CBS theme starting with the 1992 NFL regular season.
As much as I like the current CBS theme they've had for about 20 years now, this was the theme I heard when I first watched football and sounds just as good.
You ain't kidding... 2003 was when I started really following the Raiders as a kid. I vaguely remember this theme but the new theme is drilled into my head...
@@TheFuturemarine10 Been 6 years and I just got this, lmao. Yeah I remember that with Vinny Testaverde then after that Chad Pennington from 2001-02. NFL back then was golden...
@@LIFEWITHTHEJONESES1 When The NFL on CBS was brought back in 1998, they had them re-record the theme (the original 1992 theme which debuted during Super Bowl XXVI), this version was used for the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons.
This theme (with a slightly updated orchestration, of course) would fit their totally overhauled graphics package PERFECTLY. A shame they didn't even think of that.
I imagine (insert your favorite team) slowly walking onto the field out of the tunnel and showing closeups of their faces and highlights of their play to go with it then Greg Gumble does his thing :) THIS goes back to my childhood too. I think this theme is WAY better than the new one (not to mention the logo)
The early 90s version of this was way better. This version gives me recurring nightmares of Joey Porter dropping an INT and the Steelers losing the AFC Championship.
This is a modified version of the theme from 1999-2000, this has heavier sounding notes. The one from 2001-2002 was a more-brisk, whimsical, light-hearted sounding composition.
@@entertainmentsportsandmore5783 This version was used for the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 season, the one debuting during Super Bowl XXXV (2001) has a whimsical light-hearted sounding theme (with early 2000s instrumentation).
0:49 they really screwed up my theme from original theme I wrote .. CBS gave the job to another music house after a few years and even gave the new arranger a writer’s share.. all he did was butcher my music ..
S.O.M.O. Flag Football League State Bowl Xi on Nintendo & Sega Sports State Bowl XI 2018 and 2019 Season I Love Music Theme From NFL on CBS 1999 20 Years Ago.
this song just sounds much more epic than what CBS has now.
I should make a SSBU Lawl Game That Has This Theme
no bro. today's CBS is beast. its amazing.
this song is so beautiful. I forgot it existed and then came across this video and I was like “oh I remember this and I love it” miss it so much
This is definitely more CBS sounding than what they’ve been using, the current theme just sounds like a wannabe Fox theme
@@goblue85people criticized it for being too nfc centric. well this theme is more CBS centric when compared to the current theme
This was real football back then
Dashae Beverley The only thing that sucked about football back then was there was no rookie salary cap! Rookies got paid way too much!
Amen brother!
1. Gridiron Dreams
2. This Video (NFL on CBS)
3. Roundball Rock
4. NBA on TNT (95-98)
5. MLB on ESPN
this takes me back to 1998 when I was 10 years old and just got into football.
This version of the theme was used for the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons (This was how the NFL on CBS went into the New Millennium).
CBS should bring back back this theme.
Bring it back for 2021! I think this 1999 version is a hell of a lot better than Posthumus Zone.
Nah, leave this theme for the true gladiators of the 90’s and early 2000’s. Not the tik tok and the complaining on twitter (or X, whatever) generation.

CBS should bring this back. It could be updated a little but the basics are there. Along with the FOX and NBC themes it's a triple threat.
As much as I like the current CBS theme they've had for about 20 years now, this was the theme I heard when I first watched football and sounds just as good.
This one is very iconic, although I love the current theme. It makes me feel like I'm marching off to war.
Takes me back to when the Raiders handed ass whoopings to teams before 2003 started.
+Oakland Man Wow...the change in song was also the change in the Raiders' fortunes. Unbelievable.
You ain't kidding... 2003 was when I started really following the Raiders as a kid. I vaguely remember this theme but the new theme is drilled into my head...
That time when the Jets would regain momentum in the season and then run go to the playoffs to get destroyed by the Raiders every time 🙄

This theme takes me back to when CBS got the NFL package back in 1998.
Yep afc games.

Absolutely yes!
This song is epic.
This makes me feel old and I'm only 36
This is when the Buffalo Bills were in the Playoffs!
Roundball Rock is the best ever, I get so fired up when I hear it.
I love song theme from nfl on CBS 1999 & 2000 Old School Music.

Bring it back!
this is the last thing i heard the last time Cleveland made the playoffs.... glad to be back!!
I still wish that CBS would have kept this theme for the NFL on CBS. It was perfect, the newer one is ok, but it's far inferior to this theme.
this brings back memories of 98 for me. 98 was a good year for football
yea for your Broncos not for my Packers
Memories of the Snow Bowl...
AKA the tuck rule game
Good theme song from CBS!!!
Now, All We Need is the 2001-2002 version of the theme (that debuted during CBS's coverage of Super Bowl XXXV).
The early 90s version of this was way better. This version gives me recurring nightmares of Joey Porter dropping an INT and the Steelers losing the AFC Championship.
Even mediocre in quality compared to the early mid 1990s version, still is loads better than their current NFL theme.
amen. they should bring back the nineties version
@@joebradio The 2001-02 theme was the best one! (Which was the final version of the Vinci theme)
"I'm Ken Squier here for the Great American Race, the Daytona 500..."
Seriously, NASCAR, what were you doing not using this?

No Christopher is wrong this version is better than the 1999 version they should’ve brought it back for this season God dammit CBS
@JHollowayNetwork ... thanks for the note and I'll add that this basic theme is itself a modified version of the CBS music from 1992 and 1993.
Back when the game was still played by men.
NFC belong on CBS. AFC on NBC. That's the way it should be. That's how I will always remember it. The AFC on CBS will always seem wrong
Blame fox for that
But Fox's NFL Theme Is Cool Tho
The updated version of the theme sounds even better from 2001-2002
The current CBS theme is the best theme in ALL of Sports tbh
I 💘 this SOMO FFL on CBS.
They should bring it back for super bowl lv
Don't forget the sponsor billboard bumper themes (1999-2000 and 2000-01 version) as well.
This is only second to Roundball Rock. Best NFL theme ever!!
best part 0:25 - 0:54
Goose bumps on my neck!!!
This sounds more like a 1970's NFL Films theme
Me and deceased uncle would watch the vikings face afc teams with this theme. Rip uncle.
TNF on CBS is a great theme as well. CBS needs to bring it back
They've repurposed it for soccer coverage in recent years.
I like this theme of NFL on CBS.
🎵This is NFL On CBS! 🎵
1999 NFL ON CBS Theme Music 19 Years Ago.
i like them both. I grew up liking this one more though!
I seriously wouldn’t mind if they came back with this version on football sundays but it won’t happen
If cbs does a old school they should use this theme!
0:26 My favorite part
Why the fuck did they change it, this shit gets me so amped!
2002 Oakland Raiders season.

that theme is from 1999-2000, because it has heavier sounding notes.
1:37 sponsor theme
why did they change it?
Mabey they think it's Lame
This one is ok. The one now is way better
Grant Wheeler the current NFL on CBS theme is godlike lol
they should bring it back
Browns back in the league
@Sherpaful ... agreed.
Yo! It's really amazing tendency grin What's your opinion about that !!!
I like the current version
Dam CBS bring this version back. The one now is trash.
@molonlave2010 rules is an understatement
Who's The Composer Of This Theme?
@star782 tell CBS to bring it back.
@robwood09 Whoa, chief! That's my team.
This was the best NFL opening song. Why'd they replace it with the lame ANGRY theme?
@WrathMania the one now is the best ever literally
Back when the Broncos owned the AFC west
Lions!!
This is the NHL on NBC music !!! Listen closely,, NBC stole this off there NHL opening
Give me the link
GOO PATRIOTS!!!!
Hello There, You Rule. historical unequal What's your opinion about it, guys !
The 2000 Ravens defense that destroyed the New York Giants 👍👍👍
the orignal version was better ('92-'93)
Why oh why did they replace Greg Gumbel-- who has one of the best voices in the history of sports broadcasting-- with that dullard Jim Nantz?
+James Haynes I agree. Nantz is awful. He roots for one team way too much on the broadcast and he sounds half-asleep.
THANK YOU
James Haynes because golf, the only place Jim Nantz's voice actually fits.
Still better than joe buck
TargetToad 64 True that. Buck is simply awful.
James Haynes joe buck is the definition of nepotism
The theme now is wayyyyy better.
1998 is a better version of this theme
The 1992-1993 version is better.
Back when football was football 🏈. Not this woke nonsense. To me the nfl is dead.
This is the most boring anti-climactic sports theme I have ever heard. Glad they changed it. I don't get why everyone wants to hear this again.
