Buy an XK8 now , Insurance - cheap , My MPG is 25 - 30 on a motorway and its so pretty when I walk away I look back and know that this is the most beautiful car in the car park.Maintainance in 2024 is £300 - 350 about as much as my daily and the last point its a Jaaagggggggggggggggggg !
I live in Ontario Canada and bought my BRG/Cashmere 1999 XK8 in October 2019 for $5500 (CDN) with Bilsteins, H&R springs, new engine, new rad, new bushings, new rack, new brakes, new tires and NO RUST. The car is gorgeous. Estate sale and yes perfect timing but just proves that unbelievable deals are out there. Drove 2200kms home after pick up and got on average 32 MPG @ 100-110km/hr....Could not believe it.......

I have owned a 1999 SL320 for 4 years, paid £7k for my one owner beauty and was offered an unsolicited £12k only 6 months ago. It is simply the best car I have ever owned and I have owned Merc's for 30 years and it still turns heads and draws praise from people where ever it goes!
@@Aarontlondon I take it you buy them after they’re about 2 years old and keep them for about the same time? I doubt I’ll ever be rich enough not to be concerned about the depreciation of a brand new car but I appreciate those who buy new and take the depreciation hit.

@@nigel.w They make them on special order I believe. For example: where I live I can't get a standard C200 but only a C200 with the AMG pack (it's just stickers and bodywork lmao). You have to wait when the dealer gets the normal one in stock after you special order it. And as much as the SL is really good car, it's a dying trend, SUVs are the thing that's coming up (hate fake SUVs lol).
They still make them but it feels as if they've stopped making them years ago. Low sales numbers, looks ugly, bad and outdated compared to its competition (ever Mercedes themselves offer better coupes/roadsters for the money). They're desperately trying not to kill it because of its big history. And then there's the SUV thing. Even Mercedes is focused on conquering the SUV market, just like most car makers today. It's a shame, the car industry has taken a wrong turn.

Both excellent cars but I tend to think the Jaguar build quality was better simply because you see a lot more X100's on the roads these days than R129's.
Interesting because I just got a r129 320sl a 95 with 100 k miles I paid 2500....... I will do some minor DIY and it will be golden There is nothing traumatic about the Merc its to solidly built

I purchased a R129 5 years ago, full service history and original bill of sale, 71k , never regretted this purses. this is a head turner.
