You said pick a side, so I'm on Team Bigley! I feel like you got just shy of saying this at the end but for me the ideal Pokemon Sleep would be something almost exactly like Pikmin Bloom, but for sleep. Mood journal for before you go to bed, mood journal for when you wake up, send out Pokemon to do fun stuff [or wait for Pokemon to come by and visit you.] I'm really iffy on biometric-tracking kind of stuff and the "record your audio all night" thing is way too much for me. I would rather it be more of a journal where you're, voluntarily, tracking what time you went to bed and got up and if you suffered any bouts of insomnia. The part where they said "you have to keep your phone on the bed all night" in the trailer stopped me in my tracks. Honestly, if the game can't function at all without being on the mattress, I probably will have to skip the game entirely. Hoping there is some way to "play casually" with the phone on your nightstand, no microphone, and not stressing about stats.
yeah!! even just basic tracking like “you put your phone on your nightstand at this time then picked it up again seven hours later at this time” would be far more information than most people are currently tracking and enough to make some judgement calls about their lives and habits.
@@itswavelengths i feel like that would be a nice option i already leave my phone on my bed, i have this neat little spacious spot where i can put stuff behind my pillows and it will be safe there, so having my phone on my bed wont be an issue i have seen other people say about how they already have their phone on their bed while sleeping as well however, it would be nice for people that are iffy about having their phone on their bed and i feel like the "you put your phone on your nightstand at this time then picked it up again seven hours later at this time" option would help people feel more included
I agree on the app seeming oddly complicated... I'm also wondering how well it will track anything when my cat inevitably lays down on the warmth of my charging phone lol
Pokemon sleep player checking in: I have been playing it for about 5 days. I am one of those who is ok with having my phone on my bed, mostly because I was already sleep tracking using Pillow and it asks you to do the same thing. I'm having a lot of fun with PS, I like that you can have a classic "team" of pokemon who help you feed your snorlax. I like all the animations and little reward mechanisms, they are cute and definitely dopamine-inducing. I actually had an interesting experience the first day that I used pokemon sleep; it was a workday, and I usually am groggy and hit snooze a dozen times, but when I woke up to the in-app alarm, I realized that there's a bunch of stuff to do immediately in the game (albeit you can delay this and come back to it later) but that day I woke up immediately, and by the time I had finished snapping pics of the sleeping pokemon and feeding them biscuits, I was wide awake. So, maybe that's an interesting anecdote that can speak to the unexpected way that pokemon sleep can affect sleep health. Like I said, I have been sleep tracking for over a year, but I've never used another app that could genuinely encourage me to wake up right then and there.
I feel like it having extra gamer stuff to Pokemon Sleep is good for the people who want it while it has normal sleeping stuff as well for more casual people.
i'm not against the progression and gameplay stuff - i want to collect pokemon by sleeping well, that sounds fun! i'm more bumping up against the weird need to check in with a sleep tracking app throughout the daytime so i can maximize a score to be multiplied against another score to THEN collect pokemon by sleeping. it just feels like they added a bunch of steps that are unnecessary.
@@itswavelengthshat I personally think is going on is that they're giving an incentive to people who break their sleep schedules regularly(On purpose or not) to have a set sleep schedule. Plus it could be seen as a nifty way for people with depression if they're into the game to remember to actually eat.(This last part I am guilty of.)
I like the gameplay stuff. It's not too much effort and it makes me feel like I'm making a bit of progress during the day. I think it's a lot better than in pokemon go where all the extra fluff kills my motivation to play.
I still use the app over a year later and it’s so interesting. I tried a sleep tracker app years ago for a little, but this one providing a small but consistent gameplay loop at night and in the morning does help me keep a steady routine. The Snorlax progression system is an expanded version of the developer’s previous game (Magikarp Jump) mixed with some Pokémon Go elements. That combo works well it a mostly idle game with such a massive franchise. It’s not perfect of course, but solid all the same.
I love that I can send my pokemon from go to home and then to my current game and play with them. Filling up my pokedex. So much easier. I also like how easy it is to get legendy from go.😁
I don’t think the app is necessarily over complicated, but I do think it’s gamified to the point where really all you’re seeing is that you’re moving or not and the length of time slept, the rest is gameplay. It’s still great and it can be a great tool, but yeah…it is a game overall
Have to say thank you, hadn't opened up Go in a while so hearing you talk about it, I checked & there was a shiny Swablu in my room so yay, I caught that because of this video & now I have a sparkly little yellow chicken nugget. The phone on the bed is a little annoying, I smack it sometimes when I'm half asleep since I toss & turn a lot but I've gotten use to it. When it comes to the recording aspect, I know I do talk in my sleep, when I was a teenager, during sleepovers, I've had friends tell me they had super weird full on conversations with me when I was asleep, I was very nonsensical during it. Even though I'm in my 30s now, I wonder if that trait stuck & uhh, Sleep has caught a few recordings of me sleep talking, one of them I even laughed a little. The weirdest one I think is when I said, "we'll leave Freddy on the ground, I literally need to go to bed." First off, I don't use the word literally unless I actually mean it so that's unusual & next, saying "Freddy" while asleep is a tad worrying. I've never watched Nightmare on Elm Street, I have to wonder what on Earth was going on that night. Only thing I use Sleep for is tracking my sleep, I don't do the extra add on things & I love waking up to Pokemon in the morning. It's fun, I've woken up to three Squirtle so far but only had enough biscuits to catch two, darn, so I have Splinter (the starting Pikachu), Leonardo, & Donatello. I need two more Squirtle!
I actually like how the gameplay is set up, at least right now, but I heartily agree that the option should be there for more simplified sleep tracking with visits - similar to how sword/shield did camping with visiting Pokémon
I downloaded this when I got my Pokemon GO++. This feels like a deluxe Snorlax Tamagotchi. I get reminders to feed Snorlax several times a day. I think I'll likely uninstall Sleep after I complete the Pokemon GO research tasks.
I'm totally on your side of the overcomplication of both Pokemon GO and Pokemon Sleep. Whyyyyyy so many added features, WHY?! My brother picks up these games so easily and everything makes sense to him and he levels up so quickly. I guess I'm more of a casual gamer and just wanna see cute pokemon? I just wanna collect all the mons in POGO but not necessarily batttle things and fight for glory. I also just wanna casually track how my sleep was with cute pokemon. Not have to worry if I fed my Snorlax today or not! I wear a smartwatch with my android phone to track my sleep. Best thing ever. I'm so glad when I first started tracking my sleep a couple years ago.
Niantic's Harry Potter: Wizard's Unite was shut down despite still being in a profit generating state. As a fan and someone sad to see the game basically disappear I do admit that the introduction of complicated skill trees and a somewhat wild swing towards prioritizing combat and towers (arguably the biggest resource suckers, of course) started making the game feel less like an adventure and more like a chore. It was explained that while Wizard's Unite was profitable they wanted to move resources around to support upcoming, higher expectation projects. We see now how THAT worked out. /*
Now that it's out, I'm gonna give my thoughts. So... oh, it's not available in Iceland. Ugh... I'm getting tired (hehe) of games not being available here.
I agree with you, Pokemon Games in general make it too complicated for casual people. Instead it just brings hardcore players to the club. This vid has 1 month but I think you already saw all the passives and pseudo active abilities, best tier pokemon to have. The biggest let down for me is the capturing. Pokemon games even Pokemon Go doesn't limit you to one or none per day, I know the idea is to make it like Pokemon Snap-like but when you include the catching mechanic the way it is, makes it a little bit dissapointing on my end. Idk what you and you guys think about it.
I didn't know about Pokemon Sleep until I saw the trailer on my RUclips. I thought it sounded cool, and was turned off by about halfway through the trailer. I sleep with my wife in the bed with me, like a normal married person would. There's no way I'm getting my phone, while plugged in, on a pillow next to me. A cool concept has becomes completely unusable.
If you still want to play, I just leave it on my nightstand and it still works. I haven't gotten any dozing sleep though. I'm not sure if that's the reason or not.
Small edit, I have a humidifier on my nightstand right above it and it still works, but that could also be the reason why I don't get much dozing sleep.
@sporesisters it somehow tracks movement with the phone accelerometer, if you leave it on the nightstand it's never going to move, so you'll always get deep sleep
You know what Niantic should partner up? Digimon! A Digimon game in AR, where you can scan appliances bar codes to get clues on rare Digimon or fight viruses and rewarded with a new digimon data
I think the only reason pokemon sleep isnt hitting so hard, is because of the HUUUUGE pay to win and is just veryyyyy grindy and time consuming without feeling rewarding... In my country its 90 DKK for a MONTH that amount is insane, if it was 25-50 DKK i could maybe see the point, but 90 DKK for playing a game and only getting 30 days of progress is just too much, even for pokemon
nah thats literally what it said in the trailer. it just used raichus sleeping position as like an example, like how it does throughout the whole video

a meditation app with meditite would be fun!
omg it's RIGHT THERE
I wasn’t wearing my glasses and I read “medication” 😭

hopefully it just says “a meowth showed up”

Putting additional space for pikmin behind paywall was a dealbreaker for me...

Because they rather get off to Chinese spyware

that's so awesome! i'm glad it's working!!
Chinese Spyware, pokemon sleep and smile and GO are all endangerment to our lives

why cant they just run the app at the background, i would like to hear music and sleep and it is not possible to do it both for this app.
Been sleeping with my phone next to my pillow for over a decade now

Seems weird that people want their phone to monitor how they sleep so they can play with virtual pets. Dont you have enough involuntary monitoring?

The fact that you think the main series is less complicated than Pokémon Go is mind boggling to me lol
Keep telling yourself that, hope you enjoy your Spyware, CONSOOM
Literally not complicated at all lmao
You don't have to plug in your phone that's just for getting raichu
nah thats literally what it said in the trailer. it just used raichus sleeping position as like an example, like how it does throughout the whole video
Given Niantic's recent history with PoGo players, I'd say that's part of it.
crazy that you already get millions of drowsy power after your first sleep session, idiotic design
Pokemon go is not going strong
Yes it is.. now that all the kids are home from school..all the gyms are booked
