Was going to wait for Xmas but want it earlier. Wish me luck getting one.
Gosh, that's gotten expensive since I first looked at it. I have asked for it for Christmas, but family will have to get in gear if they want to get it here from the USA, in time for Xmas!
Here is an idea for you Kevin, you pick up as many of these as you can see in charity shops around you, put for sale as UK items on eBay, then use all your profits to buy new (antique) decanters with! 😁
Book is $62.95 on Amazon
I swear before I started this channel it was £15. I think the next one I do will The Decanter Ancient to Modern, because at least it’s still in print and although it’s not cheap, it’s a lot of book.
Found it in the local library
Now book it forever, exclaiming: my precious.
Keep an eye on it and when they go to sell off older books, NAB IT!!
The vase you picked up around 5m30 as being similar too a Romanian design is actually quite a tricky one. This particular one is japanese, imported by Napco, but there are single colour Romanian versions in the same shape. There's also a straight sided version that's found with Romanian and Japanese labels as well as being listed in a 1960s Lefton catalogue as Italian, confusing the issue further. Of course, when Andy wrote the book 20 years ago, this knowledge wasn't available. A cautionary note that even the best books are products of their time and prone to the occasional error.
Weeps quietly….. as you know this is my weaker area I’m trying to learn, there are a few things in the other books that I’ve ID’d that he hasn’t, he’d still beat me to a pulp in a glass knowledge fight though. Catalogues, labels and boxes still win, but can’t always be trusted.
