Lovely! I would really like on of these (telling myself they’d be practical too)
Hi, regarding the orange one: I can't quite see the shape. But there was a designer in Munich called Jean Beck. He made designs in very vibrant colors at a time, that the art nouveau still was going. He had several huts delivering the glass to him and his atelier in Munich added the "Schwarzlotmalerei". Later on a lot of others copied that as well. He was affiliated with Regenhütte and Schliersee Hütte in eastern Bavaria. Maybe this was done or inspired by him. But that is just a guess.
@@goodgoddygod this is the detail I don’t know about German glass. Also, it’s very not a UK style, I don’t even have a comparison.
@@lovedecanters7891 I know, that's why I told you. And as I have the same problem with all British glass (except for Caithness), I watch your videos to learn from you :)
keep sharing the things you love 😊
Vielen lieben Dank für das schöne Video und die tolle Werbung für unser Geschäft. Mit besten Grüßen Veronika Albrecht
@@veronikaalbrecht8401 thank you for welcoming me to your shop.
Incredibly kind of you Kevin to share
Merv Hughes on tour in Germany :) A lovely shop.
If I would come across something like this in a thrift shop for instance, I’d think it’s a little flower vase and would not have recognised it for what it really is. Thank you for sharing this.
@@carmenm.4091 I bought the pair from a table of brick-a-brac at the back of an antiques centre for £7. Trawling antiques is not a waste of time.
@@lovedecanters7891 lovely! What a find!
I never would have guessed that I'd find an interest in antique glassware. But your videos are actually super interesting and informative. Please keep uploading!
Thank you, I’m really enjoying making them, so have no plans to stop.
Welcome to Germany. :)
In the US, this is called a make-do.
Nice video! As you pointed out, being able to see the sold items on the Scottish antiques website is so useful and easy to navigate. It seems like the sort of information that should be archived in a museum.
It is good, but it’s not 100% as I spotted a couple mistakes when hunting for stuff last night.
You might find the searchable archive of Adams Auctioneers of Dublin, a useful resource. Lots of Irish Glass !
@@sobraine123 cheers I will check that one out.
Subbed your channel
@@varshneydevansh thank you.
Amazing ❤
Yay! I found a small Anita Harris palm dish in a charity shop today. It's so exciting to spot these things and know what they are. Thanks, Kevin. Hope you are well. I am still back in time. Ha, ha.
@@lesleyhudson2761 are you working your way forward?
@@lovedecanters7891 Yes, I'm treating it like a degree course in glass (don't ask me to write any essays though), so I am making sure that I see them all. I am getting very confident now spotting the antique lead crystal glass. Thanks for all your brilliant work.
Hi Kevin can you recall who was selling the small Indian Club decanter?
Yes, it’s The World is Made of Glass.
Looks great! How do you here about these events btw?
@@adamdjc8201 there is a link to premier fairs in the description and they also have a Facebook page.
@@lovedecanters7891 I missed that link! 😅
Like the glass mugs with moulding to the body. Not a glass expert but can say that 18th century silver mugs tend to get slightly taller and narrower towards the end of the century and the earlier ones tend to have slightly straighter sides not quite so bulbous....just a thought, not sure if the glass examples conform to that.
@@eddieharris6004 not sure but I think it needs a video to figure out. I will add it to the list.
Where was this show at. Does anyone know of any glass shows in the Midwest of USA
I'm afraid it's in the West Midlands of the United Kingdom at Cranmore Park, Solihull, Birmingham. You might want to try asking the RUclipsr KissMyGlassAntiques as she is in the US and she sometimes travels around.
I’m usually pretty good at spotting fakes, but man, some of the modern ones are getting so much harder to catch. 😮💨
@@user-pt1cz4ot1e I saw a collection of 18th century glass with some fakes by known early 20th century fakers. You would just have to know, I couldn’t pick them out.
Sklo means glass in Czech
These bottles are stunning.
Sniffing the difference. Love it.
Lovely item....far rarer than a similar period decanter.
Very beautiful 😍
Looks amazing, almost like cast iron ornamentation!
It was hard. Dyslexia was barely known about. Nevertheless 16 and 17 th european century history was very dry so you didn't miss much. I was so bored with it after 2 years, thatI didn't get a very good grade!!!!
But we had the Tudors and Stuart’s, and Gustavia I rampaging through Europe. The Huguenots brought wald glass to England, Elizabeth banned the use of wood in glass making, causing a switch to coal, causing mass coal mining helping to kick off the Industrial Revolution. Verzeselisi (can’t remember how to spell it) came to Elizabethan England under pain of death from the Venetians and taught us how to make clear glass, and at the end of that period George Ravenscroft invented Leaded glass. The Venetians also stopped the Caliphate from owning the Mediterranean at the Battle of Lepanto. It was all going on.
@@lovedecanters7891 I was 18 and found the defenestration of Prague a highlight! You make it sound much more interesting!
Thumbs up once again. Hope you remembered not to ‘ping’ and glass on Nigel’s stand! 😂
The temptation!!! Aaaaarrgh!
You have been working so hard.
Is it Francis 1 of France?!
I know I need to put out a correction. My brain knew it was France, but apparently my mouth didn’t.
@@lovedecanters7891 I was made to endure 16 th century European history for A level!! Didn't mean to be a know all!!! 😆
@@hilaryphelvin8402 no worries, I love history but didn’t pick it because it’s too much writing.
😂 lots of writing!!!
@@hilaryphelvin8402 don’t know if I mentioned, but I’m dyslexic. A lot of my grades in school were dependent on how far I got through the exam. Back in the 70s there were no dispensations/assistance for it.
I like the wine glasses. Is it safe to drink from uranium glass? I ordered a uranium wine glass online to use for drinking but I’m hearing from other people not to use.
I think it’s pretty safe. The amount of uranium needed is small, and the proportion of the which that is actually radio active is tiny. I don’t recommend grinding it into power and eating it, but the lead would probably get first in that instance. I have seen a talk on it, and I can’t remember the exact details as it was a long time ago, but there are lots of background sources of radiation that are worse for you.
@@lovedecanters7891 thank you 😊
You rescued, I approve :)
Sure it's not a wine aerator?
The air twist does not break into the bottom of the glass. The shape of the bowl is classic mid 18th century shape, and the quality of the glass making is consistent with that too.
nice saved a glass that usually would have been binned lost it's value but still worth the time and effort put into saving it for you love it mate
This is - really great idea!
You mean I am not the only one in the world? :)
Lol
Love the ‘new’ room
It’s the same room just facing the other way.
I love the 18th century glass.
i love your videoss please keep doimg them
No worries, I have no plans to stop.
Did you buy any glass from the fair ?
Yes, you’ll see in part 5.
Very nice !
Love it! Well saved sir.
Love the glasses.
Great stopper.
Fascinating glimpse into the world of glass recepticles. New fan with Waterford crystal ships and wine decanters. Along with some beautiful wine and sherry glasses. from the same maker. Most vintage from the 60s. Thanks.
Thanks, I’m afraid all my Waterford is pre 1850.
Thanks for another great video, Kevin! You referenced a French/Normandy jug on the Fileman stand and showed it fleetingly and then looked at similar ones online at Scottish Antiques in their sold archive, but I can’t find that jug on the Fileman website. Would you be able to recall how much Fileman were asking on theirs? I’d like to buy one one day, as I like their plain style and they’re normally not mega expensive
I can't believe I'm up to number 75. Ha, ha.
Sorry, but there’s one uploading this very minute.
Hello Kevin, Love your knowledge and videos, is there a way I can contact you about a couple of unknown pieces to me. Thanks Helen
Sure, my email is, kevinbarron@me.com
You are doing a brilliant job. Stick with it.
I would love to find some of this one day.
Lol, you’re definitely working your way through my videos.
