The most obvious difference between automatic and manual vehicles is the layout of the shifter - that is, the lever that changes the transmission's gear placement, usually located between the two front seats of the car in newer models and sometimes attached to the dash or steering column in older models.

Manual transmission cars, also known as stick shifts, are different. They tend to feature shifters with five to seven forward speed gears, plus a reverse gear. The gears are numbered, with higher numbers corresponding to a greater distance traveled per engine revolution.
In addition to a more complicated shifter, manual transmission vehicles have a clutch pedal. The clutch pedal, which sits to the left of the acceleration and brake pedals, allows the driver to engage the vehicle's clutch plate to control the vehicle's speed. To drive, you hold down the clutch pedal while starting the engine then gradually ease off it while pushing the accelerator. You also hold down the clutch pedal (with your foot off the gas pedal) when shifting gears.

Always AMT. I have used AMT cars on all surfaces with maximum load. They are the best, that is the reason it the preferred mostly by Gulf and western countries. It is also good on hilly areas and boon for heavy traffic conditions.

Good video. Valuable information. I am 40 years old. I have switched over to automatic after 10 years of manual driving. Agreed that manual was fun to drive with control. But with automatic, feel more relaxed and comfortable. Before I used to have pain in my left arm while driving long distances due to changing gears frequently. Now my one leg and hand is free. This makes a lot of difference in driving bumper to bumper traffic and hilly congested roads. Better to think smart.
Also I have been driving in many gulf countries and there almost all the vehicles are automatic. Hardly I see any manual vehicle moving on the road. Even while giving the driving test in Kuwait, all the vehicles were automatic.
Yes i have lot of problems in changing gears. I haven't tried automatic cars yet but seeing this new technology gives me confidence about driving.

I have been driving manual for about 6 years. I have no problem in driving on hills or bad road. But yes, sometimes my left foot hurts when I am driving in city traffic for a long time.
Sidhi baat agar aapko comfortable riding chahiye like city driving in high traffic to automatic le lo.... Simple comparison- manual mtlb bike, automatic matlab scooty..

I have WagonR Automatic , and ussme Automatic ke sath Manual drive bhi hai.. sometimes I use it if I need more control. Baki ik point jo aap ne bataya ki Jo Automatic sikhta hai usse Manual chalane me bhaut dikkat hoti hai.. it really apply on me. True hai iekdum.

Excellent, but ohi ek galati. In uphill u r right, but in downhill automatic gear always shift to higher gear according to its speed, and then only option to slow down the car is braking > which results severe heat in disc/ drum causes damage of valve of brake cylinder and leaking brake oil > brake fail > life threatening condition.
But in other hand, in manual transmission, we always use low gear for auto braking. Thus why we prevent brake failure.

As per me u should buy a manual car because if u buy a automatic car and u just have practice of driving a automatic car so if u need a car in an emergency and u just have a manual car so u cant drive that car............Whereas manual car it would be somewhat tough while driving that car in driving school but after some practice it would be easy

I have both vehicle, i prefer manual gear because it has better control and physicaly good, both legs and hand are functioning to drive it's feel good like a exercise. When I drive auto car only right leg is using so it make exhaust my leg and can't sit properly for long time

सर मेरे फ्रेंड के पास यह गाड़ी है ऑटोमेटिक ट्रांसमिशन बाली उसकी गाड़ी में क्लच पेडल नहीं है. एक बार इसकी बैटरी डिस्चार्ज हो जाए तो गाड़ी को स्टार्ट करना मुश्किल हैँ. सिर्फ बैटरी की मदद से ही स्टार्ट होती है

Just one point to add. I have a Fortuner Automatic Transmission and other two cars with manual transmission, Wagon R and Honda City. Car with Automatic Transmission is easier to drive forward. But when we drive it in reverse, it is I easy, especially on climb. It will not move without using accelerator but by accelerator it will move in more than desired speed because of steep it needs more power hence no use of brakes.

People who are habituated with manual car feel uncomfortable with automatic car. In city area, automatic car has no alternative. Aged people feel it more. In India, manual cars are sold mostly, not in abroad. Automatic cars are more fuel efficient because it changes gear exactly in right time. I have been driving an AMT car more than four years, I faced no problem so far. One drawback I have heard from my service agent that the car can not be started with out battery i.e. by pushing the car.

Manuel transmission is better than automatic in hilly area.. especially jab aapko kisi heavy vehicle ko overtake karna ho ya steep chadhai per gadi chadhani ho.. aap lower gear shift kar sakte hain .

I feel so relax to drive automatic even my body and legs not painful. Before I drive manual car 15 year last 15 years I drive automatic car Felling so good and happy.

Yes, automatic is certainly very good. But I do find one issue when climbing up Hill's and specially when it's fully loaded. There's lack of power or reduced power. This is my experience. Let me know if anyone has better experience and how he achieved it. With 2 person inside never faced issue but with 4 person pick up is poor and it lags

The major problem with new drivers is they won't press clutch first and brake nexr to halt the car, instead they press the brake first leading to stalling of car

My first car was manual. Second one which iam using now is automatic transmission. Based on my experience I will definitely suggest Automatic vehicle. The comfort of automatic can not be matched with manual.

Reliability describes the ability of a system or component to function under stated conditions for a specified period of time. Here "failure" is the main key word. While manufacturing a car with automatic transmission, a series of quality control testing is done to ensure the failure rate is as minimum as possible. This type of quality control testing is also done for cars with manual transmission.. now, will you still say manual cars are better reliable than automatic??
