- Lou Reed performs "Dirty Blvd." live at the Farm Aid concert in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 7th, 1990. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Geez, it took some balls to sing this song in the Midwest. Awesome.
I was thinking exactly the same thing.
While the examples are different the sentiment's the same. QFT... Quoted for truth.
No, they all loved it
Thankfully that I live at the same time Lou was on this world. And David Bowie and Iggy pop. THE three big ones ever.
I completely agree. Add in Warren Zevon, Courtney, and DEVO.
RIP Lou. Nice song.
' Kid by the Lincoln Tunnel selling plastic roses for a buck '
Sweet mullets.
Petty/Reed.... dirty road/dirty BLVD.....
This is a top Lou Reed live performance, man
Great band. Best I've seen him with after the Rock and Roll band.
Lou's New York album is right up there near the top of the everyone else best ever list.
Lou Reed is sharp, articulate, and absolutely commanding the stage here!
it's rare to hear Lou Reed singing live almost like the studio version, usually he destroys the record on stage, anyway ... but I miss the backup vocals on "fly fly Fly Awayyy" he was always surrounded by musician unable to sing the harmony parts...lol
It´s true! But There´s some versions of "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" almost like the studio version. Ny friend, Saudos from Argentina!!!
Bernie Sanders should use this song at his rallies........Hahaha........I mean that's what he's fighting against, what we're all fighting against.
i absolutely love how he screams GET IT OUT! before the chorus
Is that Don Was on bass?
Yes it is..
LOU WILL NEVER STOP WALKING ON THE WILD SIDE
really nice, but missing the joyous ending part (fly fly fly away...)
Lou always spoke the truth a true poet r.i.p.
Great to hear this sound with some serious bottom end. Aronoff delivering.
Lou Reed is the real, unique and believable Jesus-pope
Don was on bass? Kenny aaronoff on drums? Wow!
A consummate poet. Much missed.
absolutely amazing! yes he really does talk more than sings, still a talent who CREATED alternate music.
Lou left his truck farm in Hell's Kitchen NYC to help out. Rockers do their best work for charitable causes like for Bangladesh.
Kenny Aronoff on Drums for Lou ...
Flyover country
meet nyc in the 90s
Nobody does the gritty nyc life like lou
I can smell the streets .
Great stuff
This is frigging great. Lou's just telling a story, the music is incidental. That's what made him a great songwriter.
No, the combination of fairly simple music with a beat and his fairly simple lyrics out of real life is why it makes it.
He kept the music simple, but if played well it has import.
I saw him on stage in london 1988 performing new york full album awesome r.i.p. lou
Lou Reed.....NYC Rock n Roll God.....Made in America.....Awesome.....
Definitly My Faveorite live version of this Song - probably cause it is faster than other versions I've heard, But Also cause Lou REALLY Puts His Heart into it!! R.I.P - Rock 'N' Roll would have Been Much less Without YOU - & You will B In My Heart & Soul Forever!! Thank You Good Sir - 4ALL that You GAVE & LEFT to MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of Fans - AND to The Human race in General!!
I miss Sweet Baby Lou! He knew the dirty side.

RIP Lou Reed
Love the song and the performance...but those haircuts...damn 😢
absolute top version of a top song
Imagine the balls it took to sing this liberal anthem to that midwestern crowd. Fucking genius.
I don't think this song would be written today, Latino family of 11 in a welfare hotel with an abusive father. A little too stereotypical for me. When I was teaching in the Bronx 30 years later, most kids had I-Phones, gaming systems, etc., but then I'd meet a mom who's trying to raise her kids in a shelter, and the kid was very ashamed. Was told that about 20% of student population lived in shelters.
@ouy Sounds more importantly like a “human” anthem to me…
RIP Lou! Heaven is a better place now!
Well Lou never backed away from how he viewed life. Neither did he lack the balls to put it out there.
A brave man. RIP Lou.
Nice love this guy...RIP Lou.. all questions answered.
"The Statue of Bigotry." Lou said it!

great version great song
2023: I miss this man's observations/music so much it hurts.
I like this version. I'd like to make it to New York some day and find out what Lou's talkin about here. I grew up in Boston but left to join military in '77, so I never got to NYC. Now I'm 3500 miles away. But I still want to "go down-on the dirty blvd, i want to fly, to the dirty blvd, fly, fly , to the dirty blvd-some day, I'm gonna make it down to the dirty blvd.
It was really rough then, more times than I could count, a kid would show up to school all banged up, and I'd ask what happened to you, and he'd say, "I got jumped." Really, 2019 was no comparison. I retired earier this year. I know things have spiked up since COVID, but not to the levels of 30 years ago. Thank God.
Most inner city kids have no connection to this lifestyle, but I know it still exists for people that are looking for it.
