The design does make sense because it isn't a healthy fusion. But it's still on the low end of my fusion favorite scale.

While fusions in Steven Universe can tend to look a little uncanny, it becomes clear when you factor in the idea that the more gems a fusion is made up of, the more uncanny their designs become.
Tell that to sun stone ( i would say obsidian but with her you have a point)

I never realized it, but each of the gems for represents the past, present, and future. Pearl is so hung up on her past that she can't really see Steven for who he is, Garnet has her future vision and is always worried about all the possibilities that could happen, and Amethyst herself just lives in the present and kind of takes things as they are.

Honestly, when it was confirmed Nicki Minaj was voicing Sugalite, I honestly thought she was gonna look a lot more like the guest voice actor . They had so much potential to add a lot of pizzazz with her too 😭.

I saw someone explain that sugalite’s personality is the way it is bc amethyst and ruby are both very emotional and have anger issues, overpowering the calm of sapphire. So if it’s the other way, with the calm of pearl and sapphire over the chaos of ruby it makes sense that sardonyx would be calmer
I saw someone else on Reddit explain that Garnet acts like an amplifier to the other gem’s personality when they fuse
Its explained in the show tho. I kind of alredy forgoten It a little but It was the mix of amethyst like braggy personality and garnet laid back personality that doesnt care a lot for things happening around. So like, amethyst wanted to show off How strong she is(we know shes insecure about being the weaker cristal gem) and with Garnet not caring for things so she ended up destructive bcs sugilite likes to show off her raw power and doesnt care about the destruction and the consequences🤷
Sugilite is also cold-hearted like Sapphire can be. 😬🤷🏽♂️
Sapphire is nonchalant because she can see the future and knows how every situation will play out, so she comes off as very cold. Any current problems that you may be dealing with, she will seem as though she doesn’t care, because she look in the future and see that the problem will sort itself out, so there’s no need for her to get emotionally involved.
Would be interessing seeing a version where she is the more mature version of these characters.

like, maybe in a later season or smth, once amethyst and garnet have become more confident and stable, their fusion could have reflected that
+ after they reform their fusions change too, so they could of used that excuse. I guess it was too expensive to get her va back

I feel like it would’ve been easier and smarter if they had her voice a fusion that doesn’t have two main characters in it and wouldn’t need to be used again because between Nicki’s schedule and their budget getting cut every two seconds it wouldn’t have worked long term regardless.

One detail I always loved about Sugilite's design was her nails. They were so detailed that I don't think there ever was anything else like this in the show
I would say the closest thing to that was White Diamond's heels in her first appearance episode, although unlike Sugilite, they weren't animated as much.
Out here speaking the truth about how amazing the concept of fusion is, and how they did some of the designs absolutely FEELTHY 😭 Thank you for making Sugilite the baddie she was meant to be

Opal may be unhealthy, and arguably Malachite can be considered 'unhealthy' BUT Garnet and Amethyst have no problem at all, they understand each other best, in fact, if she could get more screen time, I'm sure we'd end up with an experienced and understanding mother figure like Vidalia,
the only problem was that the three of them were too excited together and if pearl hadn't turned them on, there wouldn't have been a problem anyway, but it's not because of the 'unhealthiness' of their relationship but themselves.
Garnet occasionally throws punches as a warning or punishment, and Amethyst attacks the gems when they are in private.
(I was also curious about your opinion, if you don't get it wrong or seriously.)

I was just thinking about something. I noticed that the relationship between two or more gems could maybe affect the way they look. If you look at a fusion based off of a healthier relationship (for example Stevonnie and Garnet) you could see that they come out more human-like and less monster-looking.
But if you look at ones like Malachite and Bluebird Azurite, they tend to look more physically unstable and unappealing. Nevertheless, they could have still done some designs way more justice 😭.

Garnet being more of a leader who is more of the order giver(Sapphire being more reserved but her personality is cancelled by Ruby's Hot headedness) Amythest brash and insecurities are backed up by Garnets more secure traits. So I think they have a good relationship just their personalities and personal feelings clash in their fusion
I always kinda liked how weird and blocky Sugalite looked. It really does highlight how she's 2/3 intense, short gems with attitude, a barely blended amalgamation of styles. But all her gem components are small stocky, and strongly compacted personalities, it makes sense that she'd be a giant stocky woman herself, with both Ruby and Amethyst's beef and brawn
I do concur she should have featured more of Sapphire's cool elegance. My one gripe was that Sapphire's vibes were totally lost in the conversation of their fusion. This redesign feels more like an even serving of the 3 rather than just a Garnet/Amethyst combo, with the long hair being something both a Amethyst and Sapphire thing. After 5k years of knowing Ruby, the idea that Sapphire would have stayed rigidly the same always felt a little off. I really like the 70s disco diva redesign.
Maybe she looked weird in the original becuz of the fact that she's an unstable fusion. Maybe after the events of Future, the fusion would look more like a bombastic diva just due to the amount of growth as gems they both went through as well as their own personal redesigns. I like to think so

Sardonyx looks like peridot fusion because of the hair and glasses. For real she looks like she could be a fusion of peridot and lapis. The OG version never gave me that vibe.
No because I had absolutely NO DESIRE to watch Steven Universe, but watching your character redesigns and listening to you passionately talk about it might be the thing that makes me finally give it a try.

I always loved the original fusions designs because they emphasized that yeah, these are ALIENS. So I was ok with them being a bit, odd-looking. I wasn't really sold on the crop top and jean shorts of your first two redesigns, but that Garnet-Pearl Conductor fusion goes haaard.

With sugilite the original design fits for their instability as a fusion. Garnet and amethyst aren’t compatible so their fusion is more crazy. I love the redesigns though!!

Sardonxy was a host because its a jab at the cheeky nature of pearl but the future vision of sapphire and host always kinda know whats up. Otherwise I do love your choices on the redesigns ❤
7:03 I love Sugalite's more warmer-purples looking more like a mix of Amethyst and Garnet, instead of a darker purple like in-show.
11:04 Opal's hair looks more unified, instead of just long. Her body also looks less like a tall Pearl.
15:46 Sardonyx being a composer is fitting- as Garnet's a commander and Pearl's more crafty.
I can't decide which, but I loce all three feeling more coherent, and I love this idea of "pre-shading" before you add the colors.

Tbh, i kinda liked og sugellite as even though we got the pretty gems, it comes to show not every fusion will turn out as a beauty. Some will become beasts and sugellite is one of them, the fusion more incorporates mainly ruby's and amethyst's personalities. Ruby's anger and amethyst's inferiority complex but times two which made sugellite more of a bully persona in the show.
FINALLY someone giving sugilite justice, i'm literally seeing people saying that she looks like a "poc caricature", like, WTF?? people can't see an more uglier looking character that they already saying that is a caricature

First two words when i saw her. And that made sense when the personality came in since when you think angry, you think of an explosion on a large scale.. and she pretty much does just that, she blows up, breaks shit and at the end gets poofed so it solidified fully through the entire thing was she was a bad mood in a nutshell but a needed one as how else will you relieve steam. :>

I'd love to see a redesign, but I've grown to like the original. I think it'd be kinda boring if they all looked like skinny women with more arms and eyes. They're supposed to be alien, I'd be disappointed if none of them got a little abstract.
I really like these designs and Sardonyx has my favorite designs but I do like the improvements you made for Sugelite the most! If you ever decide to do more of these, I really want to see how you’ll interpret Sunstone since I think her design definitely needs the most work.

🎤 I have to say, her with a Beethoven like design does definitely match her a lot more! Since Garnett likes to sing and how pearl likes to dance, I would definitely say they would fit more of the Beethoven vibe more then they would a game show vibe. So I love her! 🖤

This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I spent the majority of it laughing! I can't say much for art improvement for obvious reasons, but I adore all of the end pieces. Opal and Sardonyx both are just. Chefs kiss. Flawless. The musical notation from Sardonyx's conductor's wand? Fantastic. Perfect. Beautiful.

🎤 Sardonyx was always my favorite. Her personality was so funny and just Out There. It was like Garnet and Pearl, both pretty uptight characters, could fully relax while fused. (Which fits because Pearl kind of used the Sardonyx fusion for her own purposes, iirc…been a looong time since I’ve seen SU.)

I LOVE the Sardonyx redesign! She looks so elegant and fashionable and now I wish she had a more brown color scheme in the show because that looks SO GOOD. It’s the perfect in between of Garnet’s red and Pearl’s peach.
Personally I'm actually a fan of sugalite, her design is right up my alley and her personality matches her looks, destructive, impulsive and unapologetically loud. Either way tho, it's cool seeing other people's designs for her
in my head it kinda makes sense how sugalite was drawn less elegantly compared to pearl's fusions if you think about personality and their purposes it didn't really bother me

I gotta say, out of the three, I love Sugalite's new design the most. Mostly because of how much of a massive improvement it is from the show's design lmao. Some of these fusions did the characters so much dirtier than I remember.

i love seeing fan fusions. altho i think an important thing to note about Sugalite as a fusion is that shes actually a fusion of Ruby, Sapphire and Amethyst. Plus its important to take into account the gem's states of mind when fusing. I think you brought an interesting element regardless! and that opal redesign is amazing! im a fan of the original and yours too : )

@@mohoejegi4876 It kinda does in this sense bc like for example a black person most def would be able to draw/design a black/black coded character better than a non black person would ever would do. Like if ppl are saying a character looks like a racial caricature then you def need more ppl of that racial identity to look over the design more bc 99.99% of the time they would know more than you when it comes to representing that racial identity.

Sunlite is my fav, but I love how you added more amethyt to Opal. I always thought she just kinda looked like a powered up pearl with none of amethyst.

Not gonna lie, if Sardonyx still had her charismatic voice and personality w/ the Orchestra fit and abilities, that would be fire. Like her opening scene would just be a intense symphony, the frame quickly following her hand as she motions her baton passionately to lead the music- then the frame zooms out revealing her and she just goes "OHOHOH!-"
The biggest glow up out of all three redesigns is 100% sugilite. The most fitting for the character out of all three is the Opal redesign. The most creative is definitely Sardonyx. Overall, all three are * MUWA! * Chef's kiss!
