FYI, I found out what those spark plugs say about the engine. That dry soot is the result of weak spark or a rich mixture.
I checked the gap and it was a bit too large, so the spark was weaker for sure. In addition, I rode in very cold temperature in November and on short trips only. The engine temperature never reached the optimal temperature level; thus, the gas was burnt incompletely. This explains the grey, dry soot. I fixed the gap and cleaned the spark plugs with a brush. It should work better now.

I dont understand this step. I take them out - i look at them and then what? Put them back in? leave them out? clean them?

@@HitomiCOD2 Great question. Yes, you have to inspect the spark plugs by comparing their colour on the tip to an image of a healthy spark plug that you can find online. If your spark plug look deviates from how a healthy spark plug looks like you can then compare it to the images of unhealthy spark plugs on the internet. This is how you can learn about how well your engine burns the fuel which is crucial to keeping your engine working properly and reliably.
You take out the plugs to learn and then you adjust the idle screws to enrich or lean out the idle fuel delivery. Then you clean the plugs with a brush and some carb cleaner and you insert them back. Ride for a few days then take them out again to see if your modifications worked (I.e. if the look of the plugs has changed in the favourable way or not) rinse and repeat until your machine works well. I check the spark plugs every time I change my oil if everything works fine. I check spark plugs more frequently if you feel the loss of power or engine is not working correctly.
