Donna (Meryl Streep), an independent hotelier in the Greek islands, is preparing for her daughter's wedding with the help of two old friends. Meanwhile Sophie, the spirited bride, has a plan. They had so many professionals in the film but it still felt like it was put together by a load of drunk friends acting, and that’s what I love about it. They ditched all the seriousness and just let loose and had fun together

From what I've heard, Meryl did not want a sequel after this one but she did say that she'll still support the release of the movie as well as the characters along the way.

@@TheaterServant it doesnt make sense if donna were alive in Mamma Mia 2 but didn't want a big part... If Donna was alive, she wouldve had a gigantic part because of how iconic her character is, and therefore she had to die if she didnt want that large part. The writers werent stupid, theres just so little alternative when finding how to get an iconic character out of a movie.

I think Donna Sheridan is someone all young women and girls should look up to as a fictional heroine. She is a strong woman. She leaves home and graduates college and then moves to an island all by herself away from her family and Home country. Then she meets three men who in the end are very nice but, they don’t treat her right and she ends up pregnant and and alone. She is left to raise her daughter and take care of the defunct hotel. She really is a bad A**! I really wish I could be more like Donna. I think it’s great that that she doesn’t let men control her and push her around. She seems to wear her heart on her sleeve yet she is very strong willed. Maybe similar to the steel magnolias? I think in some ways I’m like Donna, I just wish I knew how to not fall in to a pile of mush when I like a guy...

Susie H she learned from her mistake and worked with what she had. No human being is perfect and she’s far from perfect. However, she seem to acknowledge her flaws which makes her to be a decent role model.
Just saw the sequel . Loved it. This song is iconic Abba. Meryl deserves a lot of credit for her singing in the first movie. And so glad to see some iconic abba in this sequel. Loved the other songs. Knowing me knowing you loved it. As well as Cher singing Fernando.

Tova Ivarjord Anyone with vocal training will tell you this is not “great” singing. It’s not bad by any means. But not great. But these movies don’t hire actors for their singing. They hire them for their acting and at that Meryl is phenomenal.
