@@edwardtorres9797 well Italian, Spanish and even Portuguese share a fair amount of words and meaning, since they all derive from the same linguistic family! But in this case “Mamma mia” derived from Italian, given the context of the exclamation and all that :)

I don't see what there is to enjoy about "music" that is just senseless screaming. I think metal is just noise, not music. But I agree with what you said about Abba having energy.
, because my mum would listen to their music. , because my mum used to listen to their music. (I hope she still listens to them). , because my mum was an avid fan of theirs. , because my mum had all their records (for example). , because it was their music that my mum always played. You grew up on Abba. That's great. I hope you never grow out of them. And I hope your standard of written and spoken English keeps improving. My Russian? Er, ... no comment.
Yes! If you listen to something, it's the something that is making the sound (or noise). What you seemed to be trying to say is that Abba listened to your mom, as if your mom was a singer and the members of Abba her fan club. You could have said instead: "Abba's music was listened to by my mother". But in that sense, what that construction implies is that it was illegal or forbidden to listen to a broadcast from, say, behind the Iron Curtain. Just as it was forbidden for Germans during WW2 to listen to the BBC on the radio. "He listened to ..." is much more direct and natural - and as such the subject who is listening should come before the object (in most cases). Also, you used the imperfect tense (was listening), which is incorrect with your construction. Abba were committed to using natural yet grammatically correct English that was clear in its meaning: in spite of a few howlers. But don't learn from me! Learn English by listening to Abba!

this song reminds me of working as a dishwasher in a Massachusetts restaurant in summer 1976. It was always on the FM radio we had on loud in the back, was 16 years old , worked hard, had fun.
Heard the song for the first time in 1975. Decades later, it remains as one of just a handful that can impart a cheerful, uplifing and get-up-and-dance vibe, anywhere, anytime. As long as people still sing and remember this epochal song, there will always, always be ABBA.
Thank god after 40 years, our ABBA has return and releasing their new album call ABBA Voyage in this 5th November 2021. Thank you ABBA for your return.
I love the counterpoint between Bennie's classically oriented piano theme and Bjorn's pop guitar riff. Who knew something like that would work so well? That is the magic of ABBA in my opinion.
Exactly Alwa. People would be surprised how much Benny took from the classical era into Abbas pop music. But again, it would be hard to understand for the casual listener never aquinted to our grand classical period. I know exactly what you mean. Counterpoint = Bach . Abba = High Baroque best of arias. Few know that Benny is an avid classical listerner. Abba is classical composition with a fixed timescale 4/4,. And the Girls got all this, Frida with her background as a Jazz singer and Agneta with a swedish folk/pop singer from the early teens. ALL the members of Abba have had a long apprentice before they became Abba. And this synergy is on legendary level. There is nothing comparable

One of ABBA's best. The late, great James Last and his Orchestra did a superb cover too. Best wishes to Aggy, Benny, Bjorn and Frida. Rest in peace, Mr. Last.
One of their best. And one of their worst. The parasitical, deceptively cheesy, stage musical industry, like some sort of sinister giant old computer programme, has stripped ABBA’s legacy to the bone. The Mamma Mia phenomenon has, increasingly with time, even come to replace the idea of Abba ever having anything to do with their own songs. No doubt the age of folk who blurt out “Oh, it’s Mamma Mia!” when by chance they come across the genuine article on the car radio, has since the turn of the millennium been creeping ever upwards. Abba had matured as a band by 1977, and kept on maturing (until 1982). Certainly by 1977, with The Album, the band had become an “album band”. Abba could embarrass its snooty critics who had unfairly and stingily labelled the Swedish foursome (a slightly disparaging term) “bubblegum pop”. Indeed the supercilious rock critics in the late Seventies seemed to enjoy referring to ABBA’s songs as “catchy”: a safe piece of snooty criticism that betrayed ultimately a touch of envy among them. But, today, in the comet trail of the Mamma Mia phenomenon, it’s the rock critics who will have the last laugh. Could you imagine The Carpenters sullying their legacy so? By having gangs of wealthy New Yorkers and what have you rampaging through some Caribbean pristine paradise socking it to the tropical birds with tunes so dreadfully delivered that they’d probably be all extinct now? Why, Abba, oh why? Those barren Greek isles shouldn’t be able to support anything. But the Mamma Mia phenomenon took root there and has flourished. Like knotweed. It’s Mamma Mia on the sides of bus hoardings; Abba invisible. The talk on radio is of good old Pierce and Meryl, never, seemingly, the introduction of a record onto the turnstile of that old genuine article. The fattening of culture has been all around us since the 1950s, I guess. But it has been an activity that has wildly increased in scale and momentum since the dawn of the internet age. Yes, those old rock critics will have the last laugh. Because the Mamma Mia phenomenon has led Abba to being once again associated with bubblegum pop and catchy songs. And by everybody! Not just a clique of critics!!! What a disaster! Nobody can complain now (except me). The healthy point about ABBA’s songs back in the day, when pop music was also still known as popular music, was that they had universal appeal. Across all ages and the class hierarchy. Yes, that was yesteryear. Mamma Mia appeals today, the Mamma Mia phenomenon that is, to a smug, conceited upper middle class mentality. To give you an example of what I mean, you only have to watch the well-made, mid-Nineties Australian movie Muriel’s Wedding to see how much more meaningful ABBA’s bitter-sweet songs could have been in a dramatic setting. The band’s songs deserved a serious vehicle, if anything. In fact, it’s no exaggeration to say that Abba, in a sense, saved the Seventies. This was a time when in the UK, many people persisted with black-and-white television because it was cheaper, colour television sets hired much of the time. People were poor. But it meant something to have the first chords of, say, Chiquitita come out of the radio on the counter in the kitchen that the miner’s wife hears on a winter’s day heavy with coal smoke. II recall watching about ten years ago the introduction of Mamma Mia into China. The makers of the documentary did not anticipate at the opening show in Shanghai the huge non-reaction of the great and the good of that city. Many were young trendy types, too, don’t get me wrong. But the cold reaction indicated that the narrative did not chime with traditional Chinese family values (as one would have expected). It also led to the producers going back to the drawing board. Of course, not to be deterred! Soon enough, even in China, they all soon “got it” as soon as the fattened-up entertainment industry’s gleeful attitude and ever sunny dispositions had built up enough momentum such that the cultural gatekeepers in China could only blurt out: “My, my! I tried to hold you back but you were stronger!” I suppose the mantra “it’s the economy, stupid!” was reworked into “it’s the songs, stupid!”. And that is the problem with the modern world. It wants to grasp ownership at all costs. To mould anything good and worthwhile into something less than the sum of its parts. And how many parts there are in the Manma Mia phenomenon! As you know, the football team that wins the World Cup is the one that amounts to being much more than the sum of its parts. And where that happens, there you find class. And the world-class performance. The world-class team. But what does the world know about class today? Must everything be dialled down to the lowest common denominator? As Dickens wrote, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. In terms of the world of the arts and entertainments, that’s the order it follows, seemingly, regrettably. The world can’t help it. Yes, the late, great James Last. Will the obituaries for Abba be that? Would its members be so honoured (as they deserve to be)? Or will they be remembered chiefly as the person(s) behind the songs of Mamma Mia!? Perhaps ABBA’s comeback of earlier this year was motivated in part to reclaim its legacy. To breathe air again after being so long stuffed under the subsidiary that had swallowed up the original old firm.
I’ve heard so many people say how soft and girly this song is. Do they not hear the roaring guitar and drums kicking in through the song? Then they turn down in the chorus to highlight the vocals before they come back in. This is masterpiece composition

You grew up on Abba. That's great. I hope you never grow out of them. And I hope your standard of written and spoken English keeps improving. My Russian? Er, ... no comment.
Dustshoe I wrote something wrong?
Хорошая у Вас мама. Похоже, и я отношусь к той категории, которую в англоязычном интернете обозвали бы "human in past", а по-русски "динозавры" :-)

You mean most popular, correct? A lot of pop has a bunch of musician. Mama Mia, child.
That would be the Beatles, sorry. ABBA is the biggest pop band from mainland Europe though.
I love the counterpoint between Bennie's classically oriented piano theme and Bjorn's pop guitar riff. Who knew something like that would work so well? That is the magic of ABBA in my opinion.
It doesn't sound that classical to me..
Cool
Contrast. Black and white is always good together

I don't know how, but I suddenly lose control
There's a fire within my soul

ABBA film na yutube ruclips.net/video/8N68PHRonIkg/видео.htmlfvnb
James Last needs to be buried in a shallow grave so that the crows can eat his bones..
