We need more green cars. I love how green Toyotas of this age got gold badges. These cars will last forever. Everyone knew someone in high school who had one of these. Been there, done that with the unreliable classic daily driver. I was so happy when my great-grandmother gave me her Mercury Sable wagon to drive to college because it was more likely to start. Not guaranteed either, but more dependable.

My old neighbor brought a 2001 Toyota Camry XLE (V6) brand new back in January 2002. That thing currently has over 320k miles on it and he still drives it today!!
These Camrys are about the easiest to drive cars on the road. Everything is boring and predictable, but it works. It's like a super boring friend who always has your back.
This Camry and the Accord of the era were by far the most common cars at my high school. My buddy had a tan one that passed 220k miles, and finally sold it four years ago to his neighbor. I bet that car is still kickin’!
@JakeTerch dayyum I heard alot of things about that accord I actually liked the 94 to 97 accord believe it or not that and tge preludes were the only Hondas that got me into them even though I still like toyotas better
My Mom has a 2001 Camry XLE with the V6, leather interior, sunroof, automatic climate control and factory fog lights, which is apparently somewhat rare. Still drives it everywhere at 173k miles, and it hasn't missed a beat. Almost all of it's features still work unlike most highly optioned cars of a similar vintage which is very respectable. If you find one in decent shape that isn't crazy expensive, it's a no brainer
I literally just bought a '99 Camry XLE V6 at auction about a month ago for $375; $688 after fees. It's a little rough, but everything works and the air is ice cold. Having spent most of my life in GM w-bodies, I was expecting to have to fix something major as soon as I got it, but so far it's rock solid and I'm not scared to crank it in the morning. I bought it to be a winter beater, and I don't think there are too many better choices out there.
I'm into European cars (mainly VW, Audi, and Porsche), but my true daily and A to B is a Toyota Camry. I have an 07 V6 XLE with 174k and it's the best daily I've ever owned. I also have a VW that I've use for shows and some spirited driving on canyon roads on some weekends, but 99% I'm in the Camry. It's also a perfect road trip car. I've driven my Camry from L.A to Vegas, to San Francisco and back. I also averaged about 32 mpg which is not bad considering I have a V6. Outside the car is boring and I have no joy of driving it, but it gives me a piece of mind mentally and financially. It's okay to have your cool, fast, and exciting cars as long as you have a Camry or any Toyota that includes Lexus you're straight. On the side note I love my Camry.
My parents had a '95 refreshed Gen. 3 (IMO the most over engineered of all of them) and my child brain was obsessed with every nook and cranny of it. And then I very much remember when our neighbours bought a new 97 LE 4cyl Gen 4 in red and being car pooled in it to school in the back seat and me making every comparison between my parents Camry and theirs. I went down the route of high powered german cars since then, but now in my 30s, I absolutely and totally understand the attraction of a basic honest car like a Camry for daily commuting/life needs. The peace of not having to wonder if shit will break or leave me stranded. We held onto our 95 for almost 20 years and donated it around 180,000 miles.
I had one of these, but the LE 4 cylinder. Both the I4 and the V6 had issues with engine sludge if the oil wasn't changed every 3000 miles. Toyota extended the warranties on these.
"sell the (fill in the blank) and get a camry (or a fancy camry, a Lexus es)" is something i have said so many times over the years to my friends and mechanic customers. 1990 4 banger, 2 1991 4 banger,s, 1991 v6, 1998 es300, and current car is a green with the gold package 1999 v6 manual. Why another camry, well i need to do some bigger repairs on the '00 Denali I'm restoring, so yeah, and its a v6 with a stick Camrys, they might be boring (maybe) but they definitely just work (and are usually easy to repair) and that makes life just better.
6:11 the dent in the rear bumper covers where very common in these cars for a very good reason. The bottom of the bumper cover kinda of stuck out a lot, and you can't see that it does when looking in your mirrors, so you misjudge the amount of space you have to back up. I never had any dents in my 4th gens bumper cover (untill that lady rear ended me) but I did tap something once and It didn't even leave a mark
After 5 BMWs I now drive a 2001 Camry and life is good 😊 It has cloths seats that hold up much better over the years than Toyota leather. May these Camrys live forever, they probably will 😅
