A friend of mine had a similar Yaris with 100000 miles. I drove it once. I was impressed with the pep it had for such basic transportation. The Yaris is a little bit of a VW Beatle. A people's car. An unassuming, reliable friend that will never let you down. I'm a Toyota guy and find the looks cute. The Yaris looks friendly.

My parents had a 2008 Toyota Yaris hatchback with the automatic transmission. That car was supposedly meant for the middle east market as the side mirror's warnings were in Arabic. That car was basically indestructible. We jammed 6 people (albeit, small-built Southeast Asians) and about 6 small luggages into it and drove for nearly 2000kms of various terrain. It never gave us trouble during that trip or in fact any other trips. A testament to this car's reliability
I used to have one of these. It was a 2007 Toyota Yaris, it was red, power windows, 5 speed, ground effects & custom wheels. I bought off the Toyota lot in 2007, owned it for 5 years & had no problems with it!
Nice to see a review of the Toyota Yaris Sedan! In Indonesia, we used to have this generation of Yaris Sedan sold as the Toyota Vios and Limo for private customers and taxi use respectively. Over in Japan, it was sold as the Toyota Belta.
I bought a used one in 2017 for $2000 with 103,000 miles on it. It was in good condition maybe 7/10. Used it until 2023. I used the it a lot and only did one oil change and service during 2020. Sold it with 200,000 miles to a dealer in 2023 and they bought it for $6500. What a car.
That is pretty funny someone sold you a used Yaris for 2000 that was only 7-8 years old and you doubled the miles in 7 years and made 4500? That is the biggest laughable joke I have read on the internet in a while.
The Echo was actually the first generation Yaris in the rest of the world. They also got a smaller 1.3 4 cylinder engine in addition to the 1.5 that the North American models got. There was also a Yaris Verso (an MPV/wagon version of the Yaris) with a tall boxy body and a swingout tailgate that was sold in most other countries.
When I moved to the U.S in 2016, this was the car that picked me up at the airport, mom's green 2009 Yaris. For a while it was our only car and it was great. As a car enthusiast I didn't like how it looked, and didn't like it's bland driving characteristics, but damn it was a good car. Zero mechanical issues, just a leak on the back window. It drove fine, was comfortable, hauled our stuff, and got good fuel mileage. For the average joe that wants to save a buck, its a fantastic option.
I have the manual version. Zero problems with the transmission at 215k miles. I push the clutch to the floor every time I shift. Plus I believe a manual transmission is considered an anti-theft device these days.
I drove my 2008 Yaris Sedan for about 14 years. Sadly a creep totaled mine last year and it was toast. It made it to 254k miles and would probably have kept going...with replacement parts. It was my first car and it felt like saying goodbye to an old friend when they took it away to the yard.
I bought a fully loaded 09 Yaris S sedan with 92K miles wholesale for $3700 in 2017. That price is tax/tag/fees/interest included. I still daily drive the car to this day and it has 125K miles. Everything has been maintence, no repairs except the blend door got stuck and the cable poped off but that was really easy to fix. I also replaced the door window belt moldings but that was also easy, and like $30.

Toyota released the latest gen Vios in 2022 and it's a shame that car will never make it to the States, it's a pretty great car!
New at the dealer you could get the Corolla for less because the Corolla had discounts that brought price lower, plus the Corolla had lower rate factory financing.
I had a 2011 and it was the best car I've ever owned! Never had a single issue with it up until I sold it with 150k miles. Unfortunately, I think people beat on these so it may be hard to find one today that is in decent shape.

A full Toyota product at its best (because the later sedan for the U.S. is a Mazda 2) simple, reliable, durable, quite spacious and (imo) a very well made car for its class. 5 people on my street have one since new and all of them are still running strong to this day. At one point in time, this was even one of the most frequently stolen cars (so they tell me). These are just dead reliable, very easy to maintain, fuel efficient and mostly light on their feet because of the VVT-i engine that really likes aiming for the top of the rev range. I tested one with the 5spd and it was really a blast to drive... but the automatic somehow fared even better in these
Just found a manual Yaris. I was alarmingly surprised they wanted 5k for it. It is such a basic car, has 150k miles, and is slightly worn and they still want 5k for it. That isn't even just the one place- that seems like a price that many people are asking for. You can get an '05 Buick LaSabre for 4k with the same amount of miles. Heck, you can get a 2016 Buick with 60,000 miles for 7k with way more features. Sure... those are not the same reliability but still- 5k for a car with manual windows, mirrors, EVERYTHING seems crazy. Honestly... I like it- it is weird yet practical.
In South East Asia this is known as the Vios and they are still making these and selling them. It is sold separately from the yaris hatchback. It is the best selling car in the Philippines.

I was looking at a Honda fit when I was last car shopping but it couldn’t sell me because it didn’t have a center arm rest which was a big deal for me lol. So I went with an accord. I would like to get a yaris for doing deliveries in but I wouldn’t feel that safe since majority of cars on the roads are suvs and the Yaris isn’t going to fair that well in a crash with a suv
The Yaris used the same dependable motor until 2017. There is a performance market for the engine - some mod the Yaris to high outout. Watch the Car Care Nut review of the Yaris. The Fit has better packagìng, the Yaris can go 500,000 miles and then a cheap JDM.motor can get you more. If you care more about saving in a 401K than nice stuff now, get a Yaris and leave the Silverado parked until you need to haul something
8:33 - That Sentra was the club soda. Cream soda is too kind for that terrible turd. Also, nit-picking, the Yaris and Versa were competitors. Sentra was, in theory, up against the Corolla.
The Yaris: For people who just want a CAR that does CAR things. Not only is it a good "starter" car, But a good car for ANYONE in the city, I liken it to a "cager" version of the Honda Super Cub. No fuss,No muss and you can find SOMEWHARE to PARK it!
240k miles is probably double the lifespan of pretty much any other car of its segment (except maybe the Fit), but this bad boy is barely broken in and can easily triple that.
I haven’t gotten to the part where you say what you think is the best economy car but I strongly disagree agree… the Yaris is the best in my opinion. They don’t break, they are “good enough” in every way. I’ve put 85k on mine in less then a year with nothing more then oil changes and brakes. Amazing car. Mine has 398,000km and shows no signs of slowing down.
most of those were removed from the roads where i live because of the multiple massive recalls in 2011 and the floors rotted very easily, if you live in the rust belt, DONT buy
The center I.P. makes sense as a design as it it doesn't need a complete redesign for RHD & LHD markets. Also ECONOMY cars should NOT have such things as power windows and heated seats. Not that I'm AGAINST "niceties", I have had more BUICKS (and several Cadillacs) than any other brand of car since 1978. But, If I am looking at a car for economy I want LESS shit to break, and what it DOES have should be easier and cheaper to repair. I once had a Chevette, A down right Stone Age car compared to the Yaris, But it for it's time it was the same concept as the Yaris. Be cheap to buy, cheap to run and cheap to fix. To paraphrase the Lincoln ads from the '80s. "Yaris, What an Economy car SHOULD be".
Probably the best $500 purchase I've ever made. My wife drives this thing every day without really any issues or complaints.

8:33 - That Sentra was the club soda. Cream soda is too kind for that terrible turd. Also, nit-picking, the Yaris and Versa were competitors. Sentra was, in theory, up against the Corolla.
See people claiming to pick these up for 500 or 1000$ in the states, how?
These things are like 4000$ minimum in Aus usually around 6000$
I’ve had 2 2007 hatchbacks and they are the best city cars
it would be cool if you found a gr yarus to review
The Yaris: For people who just want a CAR that does CAR things. Not only is it a good "starter" car, But a good car for ANYONE in the city, I liken it to a "cager" version of the Honda Super Cub. No fuss,No muss and you can find SOMEWHARE to PARK it!
I like club soda!
240k miles is probably double the lifespan of pretty much any other car of its segment (except maybe the Fit), but this bad boy is barely broken in and can easily triple that.
funny soda analogy.
Yes u nail it
I am facing issue with breaks that always pushh breaks hard for breaking does anyone knows abt it?
Ever driven a manual Dr Pepper? Super fun car and much better acceleration than the 4 speed auto Dr Pepper. Third place ...
In My country this car costs the minimum ammount of $8000 and in good conditions can go up to $12000, what do You guys think?
Its on our country its called a vios in other countries its called belta or yaris
It’s crazy a 2007 Toyota Yaris has more rear legroom than a 1999 Toyota Corolla
I have a manual one and I whip that thang.. mine has 140hp tho
2007 back when car manufacturers actually still sold base model cars that people could actually afford!!!!!!!!
Basic transportation. No more, no less.
I heard from a toyota mechanic the manual in the Yaris is quite weak and the automatic is more reliable
It's our Vios.
in southeast Asia, we called it "Vios"
Almost 240,000 miles says all you need to know about these older simple Japanese cars. They don’t make them like this anymore, unfortunately.
These cars are a dime a dozen here.. it's very reliable, well built but fun is somehow thrown out of the window..
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That interior looks like punishment. The info all being in the center of the dash is just a “No.”
You get used to it. My Jeep CJ has the gauges down low in the middle where the climate controls would be in a normal car.
per video, he said the BEST economy car is Honda Fit.
The Toyota Yaris is a little smaller than the Corolla. Toyota no longer makes the Yaris. This has hard plastics just like the 2007 Corolla
surerly the Mitsu Mirage is in 3rd place
