15 years after it’s release for this sedan. It is still widely popular here in my country the Philippines. Built to last for this car as our taxi companies still uses it both past and modern models.
We Indonesians also use the vios for taxi. But now our taxi fleet has shifted from vios to the avanza for bigger capacity. But we all do love our vios taxi.
@@realVicTorres02 but do you like avanza as a taxi tho? Me personally, hate it. I mean vios is meant to be a taxi. It's comfortable, small yet big enough, and also faster than the avanza.
It depends on the generation of Camry you're talking about. In 2007 the 9th generation Corolla was still on sale, and that looked a lot like the 2006 Camry. Toyota eventually made a Camry-looking Corolla for the 2009 model year. The Avalon was always different looking though.
In the Philippines, this was the second gen Vios. That particular gen began the model's nearly unbroken streak as the country's best selling vehicle until today.
Best car in terms of reliability fuel ecco and functionality for its price range imo. There are cheaper options like the Mitsu G4 but that car is a bit underpowered me thinks.
this thing's so reliable. this was my dad's daily driver, the only major stuff that was fixed on the car itself was replacing a burnt clutch with a new one. and it still runs by the way.
YESSS i have a white 2009 Yaris S sedan automatic, fully loaded. Alloy wheels, spoiler, ground effects, fog lamps, sport seats, leather steering wheel and shift knob, premium stereo. Added TRD rear sway bar. This car literally feels like a tiny Camry. I don't have the urge to sell it for something bigger, had it almost 5 years. I only wish the arm rests were padded. This car will get 30mpg city 40 mpg highway consistently I swear, that's how it always calculates. One of the most enjoyable and reliable sub compacts you can find.
Wow, we've really come a long way since 2007! It was a nice, basic economy car back then, and even more so now, a throwback to a time when cars were at the pinnacle of technology, reliability and economy. And it even passes the Big Friggin Bottle test, I'm impressed!
I have a 07 yaris sedan, no options except for an auto transmission and 15 inch steelies. It may not be fast but it's still the best handling vehicle I've driven. I love how light it is and how much it communicates with you
I used to have one of these, mine was even a 5 speed. Mine was red, with ground effects, a bug guard & vent visors, custom wheels & a 12 inch sub. with an amp in the trunk. I bought it new in 2007 & had it until 2021, traded it for a truck. I miss that car a lot!
Interesting review of that Yaris Sedan, Zack! Here in Indonesia, we also have that generation of the Yaris Sedan sold at one point, badged as the Toyota Vios for private owners and the Toyota Limo for taxi use. In Japan, the car is badged as the Toyota Belta.
The hatchback version of this model first went on sale in Japan in early 2005 as a 2006 model. I personally like the Sedan more in the front and the hatch more in the rear. I think it’s a very good looking car that to me is timeless like many late 2000s automobiles.
I can see why you say that I do say I prefer the hatchback because of the sporty look it gives. We have the vitz which is the version outside of the us,and my family owns one and it drives wonderful.

Notice the interior door handle is metal and not cheap plastic as some cars have such as the 2008-2013 Corolla. Also, its weird they put the gauges in the center instead in behind the steering wheel
I have an 07. Haven’t had it that long but the car held up really well. Everything just works. It’s simple, super easy to maintain and work on, parts are cheap. Timing chain and no valve adjustments or timing belt like in a Honda. To me that is the main advantage over Honda nobody really discusses.
My first car was a 2007 automatic yaris. Same color as this. Easily the best car i've owned. I'm happy it still belongs to my family with almost 200k miles
I love manual transmission front wheel drive economy cars. They're just so efficient and fun to beat on without worry of major issues. They are fairly light weight and while they don't handle like a sports car, they are nimble and have nice responsive steering. Slow car fast is the way for maximum smiles per gallon!
This Toyota Yaris sedan was also known as Toyota Vios in Southeast Asian market. In the Philippines (where I came from), it was popular as taxi cab, ride sharing vehicle, and police car.
You came through with this review Zack! This is my dream cheap car even though I have a same year Lexus ES350! I drove a 5spd not too long ago it was fun and engaging! I'll definitely pick one up for a 2nd car!
This car will keep running as long as the owner wants to keep it running. The 00s were peak Toyota: they had efficiency, comfort, and build quality but weren't full of complicated electronics. The materials aren't the nicest but they're durable. It's a shame Toyota gave up on the cheap subcompact market. You're a few years younger than me but I know what you mean by the computer lab. I had to go to 5th and 6th grade in a broke school in the hood. Windows XP was nothing new, Windows Vista was on the horizon, yet my school only had beige Pentium III computers running Windows 2000. The school I'd come from in the suburbs (same district) had a new computer lab running Windows XP. When I got to 7th and 8th grade back in the suburbs (same district) everything was Windows XP and 7 was about to come out. XP was probably the greatest OS Microsoft ever made and it's just a refreshed 2000 so it wasn't too bad. When I got to high school the computers were finally up to date with 7.
One of my favorite things about the Yaris is saying the word Yaris. I use the pirate “yar” in the pronunciation. When the Yaris doesn’t let you down while driving you say it or if you see another Yaris on the road I yell it out the window. Vios has a nice ring to it but not like Yaris.
My dad bought an early Echo in February 2000 and put 320,000 miles on it until he gave it to me in 2006. Consequently, he needed to replace his commuter car, and the Yaris was on the docket. Comparing the two, the Echo was 200-300lbs lighter, had about the same trunk space, and more rear headroom. I've come to appreciate the hatches more, and wish the SE treatment of 2013 was across the board. Toyota never gave the subcompacts much love. The first generation Yaris you talked about had sport models... stiffer rear beams, similar to the xA and first generation xB sold here, and the same seat padding and material (sportier bolsters, and so on). The Echo was the lightest of the 1NZ-FE cars, but also had the smallest, least aggressive tires, brakes, and tallest gearing (via a 3.53 final drive, as opposed to the xB's 4.3 final drive to combat weight... Echo was still quickest, and could have been quicker still. The 1.5L was the sport engine around the world, and that's all America was given... we were spoiled, and didn't even know it. Hell, it was a subcompact accelerating with cars a class above, like the Corolla, Civic, and Neon. It even competes or beats a lot of contemporary cars because again, power to weight. Another appreciation for the Echo, is unlike the Yaris and basically everything these days: the rear fender "boxes." Rather than being a round blob, it's a subtle line resembling the boxed flare of a bugeye WRX or R34 GTR... just less extreme. The coupes, in particular, are my favorite, since they have a longer door and a sloping b-pillar, and slightly stretched out quarter window versus the sedan (though they otherwise are the same dimensionally/proportionally).
I have this exact car in the exact color. The roof, trunk, and hood has faded paint but everything else is the same. Although I wish I had powered windows, a security system, and a electronic key fob of all things, the car gets me from a-b and gets good gas mileage.
Still driving mine in South Africa which i bought in 2010 but its a 2007 model when I bought it, in South Africa it was only available as a 1.3 liter engine
I've always thought that Toyota/ Scion's practice of having one dash for all markets with the gauge pod in the center was a pretty shameful cost cutting measure.
Been using more than 10 years Vios J Manual transmission, this & Round eye Kancil have same gauges cluster at the middle of the car instead infront of steering wheel
This Vios was my daily and it’s a stick shift. Pretty rare to find in Malaysia. I miss it. I rarely see this car in the U.S but boy, when I saw one the other day, it brought back tons of memories. I wish U.S has more Asian market cars
2007-2011 Yaris sedan 5-speed stick and 2300lbs what's not to love it could use another 10-15 hp for sure but it gets nearly 40mpg and although used prices remain high it can be had for a good price if you look enough. Watch out for rusted rear subframe control arm mounts in u.s. rustbelt & canadian areas.
i have a 2014 Toyota Vios (or Yaris Sedan in other countries) that has around 205,000 kilometers on the clock. it's a J Base model which doesn't have a lot. you just drive it. don't know if i wanted to replace it with a pickup truck (Nissan Navara/Mazda BT-50) or not since it has a sentimental value to me.
I've heard that the automatic transmissions on these are actually more reliable than the manuals. These and the Corollas of this era, especially the EU models. If that's true, you'll end up spending more maintaining your manual transmission Yaris than someone who buys one with an automatic.
