Oh 100% even tho I've played system shock and prey this still felt completely unique. Also a remaster would do best I think, the games already great but man do I want to see what rtx would do
From what I recall playing Bioshock when it first came out…yes…especially if you haven’t played it before. Really cool atmosphere, good gunplay and nutty story.
I came across your Bioshock 2 video when it was recommended to me on RUclips, and now I’ve been going through your channel and binge-watching everything. Needless to say, you’re definitely one of my top creators right now. I’m obsessed with how you edit your videos, the topics you cover are super interesting to me, and the information is delivered quick and concise enough so that I’m not bored halfway through like with some other creators, while at the same time making the video long enough so that it’s not a waste of information and time. All around really great work, and seeing someone my age make such awesome content is really great to see. I can’t wait to see what you create in the future!
One small gripe in the video is that the game is more based on the 40s and 50s dark and lonely aesthetic vs the 60s more colorful and optimistic vibe. Other than that, this is a very well thought out and insightful video!
I only started playing Bioshock last year and it became my favorite series of any games. I’ve played through the series about a dozen times so far. Especially 1 & 2 and also Burial at Sea part 2.
It really is an experience that is not only friendly to replays but is unique in its experience to where you wont find much like it. Outside of prey 2017 (which I'm working on a vid for this week wink wink nudge nudge)
I really liked the game ontill I reached the 3rd act (1st act is you trying to escape the city 2nd act is you taking down Ryan and the 3rd act is you taking down Frank). I really think that the game should have ended with the WYK twist. Here is how I would have written the ending, but 1st I need to change some dialoge regarding Tenebaum's introduction. Ok, so Jack stumples upon the scene where a splicer almost kills a Little Sister, but is then killed by Bridget. Atlas tries to have Jack harvest the the girl while Bridget gives him the plasmit needing to save them. If harvested, Bridget turns hostile and the player would then be forced to kill her. If rescued, Bridget takes the girl of your hande and tells Jack that she doesn't fully trust him yet as he could have simply rescued the girl in order to prevent Bridget from killing him retaliation for commiting murder. She then - before leaving the girl in toe - tells Jack that if he truely wants to earn her trust that and that he should explore the city and help her rescue all Little Sisters from their torment. Now with that out of the way, let's focuss on rewritting the ending. So Jack and Atlas storm Ryan's compound, however when they get to Ryan's office Ryan uses the WYK phrase to Jack disarm both Atlas and himself before putting all of their weapons in the pneumo tube. Ryan then starts showing Jack the WYK wall while monologing about the fact that Jack is Ryan's son and that Jack is a unwitting member of Frank's conspiracy to overthrow him. He reveals that Frank bribed Jasmine into selling Jack so Suchong and Bridget could conduct ADAM experiments on him that would make Jack the perfect assassin, however before he can reveal to Jack that Atlas was Frank in disguise all along, Frank yoinks his golfclub out his hands and beats the both of them to a point before taking Ryan's genetic keycard to reprogram the mind controle pheramone machine (going to call it MCPM from now on). This means that the vitachambers no longer respond to Jack's genes, so if he dies than the game will end. While the MCPM is reprograming itself, Frank collects his gun from the pheumo, while explaining how he faked his death, before killing Ryan. Frank then tells Jack that once the MCPM is fully reprogramed that he will be fully under his controle, but he's going to kill him now as he views Jack as a loose end that he doesn't want untied. If the player fails to save atleast 1 Little Sister or harvests atleast 1 Little Sister than Jack dies and the player recieves a bad ending. If all Little Sisters ARE rescued however, than before Frank can pull the trigger, the rescued girls ambush and disarm him. Bridget then walks in with her own gun and plans on having Frank stand trial for causing the city's state of ruin and also gives Jack a medkit, but before she can confiscate the keycard of of him the MCPM is fully reprogramed and starts dispersing Frank's pheramones. Because Jack and the girls still have ADAM in their systems, they end up suffering from massive head ache as they are trying to resist the mind controle. This distracts Bridget, which results in her and Frank fighting over the gun all the while Jack enters a dream-induced halusination. The final boss is Jack trying to resist the mind controle and if the player dies then Jack looses his free will forever, which results in a bad ending. If the player sucseeds than Jack wakes up witnessing Frank about to execute Bridget, however both he and Bridget notice that Jack has fully cured himself and so Frank knocks her out and tries to kill Jack. The player now needs to run to the pneumo, collect all their gear, kill Frank and then they need to loot the keycard of his corpse and insert it into the MCPM in order to prevent Frank from respawning. This is easier said then done as all of the girls are still writhing in pain and can't assist Jack as well the fact there no longer any objective markers there to guide you. Keep in mind that Frank only needs to kill the player once as the vita chambers currently only respond to Frank's genes as they're all connected to the MCPM, which means that if Jack dies than player get's a bad ending. Once Jack has killed Frank, prevented him from respawning and gains controle the city, Bridget wakes up and tells Jack she'll stay in Ryan's office to collect herself and to take care of the girls and that Jack wants leave the city that he should come talk to her. The player is now able to roam the city as all of the enemies have turned non-hostile due to the MCPM now spreading Jack's pheramones instead of Frank's or Ryan's. Once the player is done exploring Rapture the player can talk to Bridget to trigger the good ending. Also to make sure that BioShock 2 can still exist, have it so when Jack leaves the city limits the MCPM shortscurcuts resulting in all Splicers gaining their free will back.
I didn't catch if you figured it out, but one thing a lot of first time players miss is that you can, and really really should, use the research camera on all security bots and cameras... It will take care of the hacking game issue eventually.
I maxed rewards from them and personally still didn't like the hacking. I also found that having so many resources near the end made the auto hack almost limitless and a no brainer
24:56. You get adam faster by killing them. That's why. I personally choose to not kill any animals (if I can help it) in games but I get why people do it. For their hide and meat. Sure, a lot of games you can just buy the stiff and that's what I do but it's not a big deal to just kill the animal seeing how it's a game.
I've watched a ton of videos on Bioshock, and played the games- and it only just occurred to me that 'Andrew Ryan' as a name is a clear reference to Ayn Rand, right from the off. Anyway, great vid mate.
You did ask on what I thought of your experience of the game was. So I will. You are extremely articulate. You were going to go onto great things, I guarantee this. But you’re thesis on this game is flawed in so many directions I needed to forward this episode so it was bearable to listen to. I’m not asking you to change, and I doubt that you would, be who you are. But your experience with this game is completely different than everyone else’s who first thought process it this game. and I do understand that you might be speaking to the ill experienced, but I just simply disagree on so many factors that I would go forward with more thoughtfulness before you speak about other games that are so meaningful to people. And I guarantee many people agree with me. And the way I think I will be trashed I still think this is good advice. Do more research and think a little more before your render and send in a format, like RUclips, that lives forever. And give the audience, us who live Bioshock, a little more respect. That being said. I did watch your content. So that’s something. 😌
Hiya and thanks for the feedback. I will admit I'm new to this whole thing and not the greatest writer but I'm trying to get better so I appreciate your feedback on that. I was wondering what did you think was disrespectful? I gave what was my honest opinions so what here didn't you like?
You’re a great writer in the making. It might be a generational thing where I was there for the launch 20yrs ago and understand the ground breaker the game was opposed to someone who is talking about it fresh. This was a combination of a sincere play through with a splash of the snarkyness of the likes of dunky (who I love). The lesson we learn in psychology 101 is that people are much easier to take criticism if you lean into a compliment first and that’s what I felt from your review. That it was a negative take surrounded by criticism and that to me is intellectually dishonest Bioshock that is almost a sequel to system shock is miles ahead from its predecessor. So perhaps the understanding of the creators development of the narrative they began and dissecting the game as if it was Duke Nukem felt odd. Perhaps I’m being overly sensitive…. But I write novels, and in turn, scripts for a living and i felt like this episode was disjointed, out of touch of the time it was created, and was unemotional (which might be where you were coming from) compared to the passion of the fan base and maybe articulation of your perception of the game, it’s story, and it’s gameplay. I do appreciate you answering back, and it wasn’t my intent to be overly critical, but the undertone of passive aggressive narration hit me in a sore spot.
@@WutangMountain don't worry about being overtly critical I appreciate it because I do want to get better. I'll make sure to work on my writing a bit more because overall I actually really loved bioshock and didn't mean to make it sound negative. I just wanted to convey how I felt about some things like how I didn't like a lot of the guns or how hacking annoyed me after a bit.
I appreciate you answering back. You really are a great navigator of the English language in the ability to portray your opinion in a way that people understand. I do respect, and want you, understand your perspective. You’re doing a great job and your understanding and ability to change and understand criticism shows a lot about your character. Keep up the good work. And if you trash the third episode of BioShock, everyone will understand. But the first episode and the second episode are cherished greatly. And I will tell you that I did not feel like you did cherish those one and two episodes. And like I said, perhaps I’m just too touchy about the subject, but still be yourself and say what you need to say and people either respect it or they will counter it. That makes a great journalis to be different and challenge Plaza side thought t. You put yourself out there and that in itself is respectful.
I played Bioshock and didn't get it, I found it a boring slog of a game and I love steampunk aesthetics and I love the old timey themes in fallout so I should have liked bioshock. After watching this video I still do not get it.... I don't get what people like about this game it's so boring.
It's definitely an immersive sim thing, if ya don't like the genre I doubt you'd like this game. There's nothing wrong with that ofc it's not for everyone
I found the story to be one of the worst things I've ever touched, but the gameplay was fun once you got past the rocky start! The plot twist was entirely unnecessary and kinda felt forced in for the sole sake of doubling the game's length, though And don't get me started on the horrible final boss and final cutscene. No matter the case, I genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere, but the story wasn't it and the gameplay certainly did start off incredibly rocky. If I were to recommend any Bioshock game, it'd be Bioshock 2 or Infinite.
Bioshock series is probably one of the best first person story shooter you will ever play !!!
I'm really exited to check them all out!
i recently started playing them and finished them all in a week
IT WAS A BLAST playing thru them all, the story is what really pushed meand the setting
I usually dont like stories in games but man
Been playing video games 37-38yrs of my life Trust me when i say The Bioshock Series is a once in a lifetime experience! Aw man thanks I appreciate that alot and am glad I could create something you considered worth of your time!
Now we need one for bioshock 2
Haha I actually just finished edimy audio for a bioshock 2 video. The people ask I deliver.
If you think this game is great now, imagine how amazing it was when it first came out. It felt like a quantum leap forward for video games.
I remember my dad got me this game, what a wonderful surprise it was
Bioshock series is great
2 is my favorite but they are all good
I played the Bioshock games for the first time last year.
Haha so we're in the same boat it seems
One small gripe in the video is that the game is more based on the 40s and 50s dark and lonely aesthetic vs the 60s more colorful and optimistic vibe. Other than that, this is a very well thought out and insightful video!
I'm glad they made the good ending the cannon one because it just works so much better with the story.
Honestly can't argue with that, bad ending just feels weird
@@MalcadorGaming It does. The whole thing comes out of nowhere with the bad ending.
I only started playing Bioshock last year and it became my favorite series of any games. I’ve played through the series about a dozen times so far. Especially 1 & 2 and also Burial at Sea part 2.
Love how Burial at Sea brings it all together.
I love bioshock
Yes it is a good game and still enjoyable.
Haha yeah it is, I was pleasantly surprised as someone who hadn't played yet that it lived up to the hype.
My favorite game of all time, I never get tired of playing it over and over again

Replaying all 3 games on the ps5 😍
I didn't even know they were ported, good to hear tho!
Love the series, adore it. Wish I could play them every day 😂
Haha I felt the same way after one, currently working on my infinite video and....it's a game
The only thing I hate about Bioshock is that wherever you are there will be like 50 sources of sounds in one place, like, whut is going on
Yea sounds a little funky at times

On my playthrough, before fighting Ryan, I stopped. For my headcannon, I'd rather rapture blow up than be a puppet in the game any longer.
That is honestly fair, I kinda felt the same way

Honestly true
Just a video of someone screaming "Yes it is!!!" For thirty-nine minutes. 🤭
Except after Ryan dies lol, unfortunate dip in quality but it's still aight
Don’t listen to any hate for BS2. I love it.
This entire game is a callout of objectiveism

Bioshock gunplay is piss poor. The guns are shit and the end is a fetch quest leading to a terrible boss fight.
The shotgun and handgun don't feel horrible. I think the last part of the game does stumble a bit but overall it's a very good product of its time
