    My 1965 ranch style home has a blue-stone on the front, the rest is white vinyl siding. The garage door was previously painted white which was an eye-sore of a contrast with the stone. I painted the garage door in Sherwin Williams Adaptive Shade along with the shutters. I put Van Dyke Brown on the front door. Total game changer for curb appeal.

    Another draw back to bold or dark colors is they fade like crazy here in Florida. Even neutral greens aren’t the best.

    Great advice, thanks! Also, would you happen to know the blue and greige colors on the house at the 4:08 timestamp. I have painters coming next week and I'm still undecided on the exterior. I absolutely love the look of that house and would happily go with those colors if I could find them.

      Hi Caycee, thank you so much! I'm not sure exactly. But it looks something like a BM Hale Navy, and for the gray, it's looking like something like a BM Granite or Stone? Hope that helps!

    I have a blue teal metal roof and have that same for gable flashing so that really limits my options. Current house colour is yellow but that is not a favourite for me. Would like to go darker but very few darker colours compliment that roof colour.

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 года назад +1

      Hmm, your roof intrigues me. Without seeing it, my first hunch, if you want something darker was to consider a terra cotta? You could even lean more orange depending on your preference.

    Excellent video. I have given thought to the exterior of my home, BUT … it would also mean changing ALL the trim. My house is white with black shutters and black wrought iron. I will probably be thinking a good long while 😉

    As always James...such great and helpful information. My dilemma is we just purchased an ugly house. The market was a nightmare this summer and we started to panic after missing out on 10 prior offers and picked the house no one else really wanted. It is an ugly yellowish with ugly brown trim. I really am hopeful that we can paint it next summer but my hubby is kind of bummed as it is cement board siding and metal trim. Both of them are little maintenance as is now but will become more work once painted. Oh sigh...we will see.

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 года назад +1

      Hey Tiffany, there are no ugly houses, just ugly paint! Make sure you wash your siding well before you paint and choose a 100% acrylic exterior paint. Should last you 10 years though!

    Are you familiar with Ryan Homes Silver Mist siding color? I’m building my first house and they don’t have any completed in the neighborhood yet. I’m looking at the Silver Mist, Georgian Gray, or maybe even Irish Thistle (though, I don’t think I want green long term). The house is unfortunately all siding with a small base of stone. I like earth tones and such…would love to maybe add some wood to the outside (replace the shutters), but we’re limited on color choices to start. It’s in TN and should get a decent amount of sunlight. Any thoughts between the Silver Mist and Georgian Gray when actually up on a full house? The grey would have navy shutters and the silver mist grey ones.

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 года назад

      Hey Devon, yes, sorry, I did a deep dive into Ryan Homes and then I lost your comment! All of their color pairings work. My eye leaned more towards the Georgian Gray, simply because you do get a lot of light so you can go darker and I prefer how it looks paired with some of the stone. But both combinations work.

    • @devonpeters9458
      @devonpeters9458 2 года назад

      @@thepaintpeople thank you very much! That’s actually what I’m leaning toward. I thought about their pewter and Irish thistle color as well, but given items unfortunately mostly siding, I feel it may be wise to go with a lighter color for long term aesthetics and heat distribution. Thanks again!

      If you can’t find a color that complements a brick facade, then the brick can be stained.

    James! Help! We have a barn red painted cottage type house with grey porch and black trim. I want to paint the two exterior doors BUT with all that color I am not sure what will POP as a color other then them 3? Will take suggestions from anyone else as well! Thanks 🙏

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 года назад

      Gray, red and black already go great together, and will create a nice backdrop for almost any color! For a complementary color that will pop against red, my first instinct is the blues, nearly any shade could work. What do you like?

    Do you have a recommendation for a Benjamin Moore blue-grey for the exterior that would look good near cobalt-colored items? (We are on a river with some sun and some shade from large oak trees. We plan to have a nearly black roof.)

    • @thepaintpeople

      Have you looked at Oxford Gray or Gentleman's Blue? Normandy is nice too or even an Alfresco might be nice!

      @@thepaintpeople Thank you very much for the suggestions! I’ll definitely check those out! I have the little strip with Oxford Gray and think it looks especially good with light. It’s pretty dark in the shade here. What do you think of November Skies that is next to it on the strip for an exterior? (I love Lily White on that same strip that’s in our master suite.)

    Sir, You want to help us choose the best colors for our homes. May I make some suggestions about how to improve your videos? Please speak slower, so we can keep up with your valuable ideas. Most importantly, please show more, many, many more PICTURES of your suggestions and many fewer pictures of YOU! That's what we need to see, not you.
