- Decided to package up the current Parsec demo a bit. These are clips of the preset materials I included with the demo here: kotsoft.itch.io/liquid-crysta...
Music from YT Audio Library: Lament of the Ancients - Asher Fulero Игры
You can try it out here: kotsoft.itch.io/liquid-crystal-sandbox-parsec-version
This doesn't have the recent performance improvements yet, so stay tuned.
I could see a game where you have a "water friend" like that of moana with this simulation; there's so much life in it
I would like the boss water giant, to whom you shoot off the hand, but he draws back the water and restores the hand
Wow I remember seeing this around 2 years ago or so, but to see that your still at it is just awesome man. Keep it up 👍
Can’t even explain how much I love looking at this sim!
I've been following this since 2020.
Beautiful work Grant!!
Downloaded the EXEs. I'm in awe.
Thanks for checking it out! :)
i love this
this is beautiful, awesome accomplishment to pull this off
Incredible!
Just as some reality check. I've been subbed to you for years. I have never heard of parsec arcade & have not been motivated to find out.
The game currently has a split-screen local co-op mode. Interesting scenarios can come out of it as different people can choose different materials to interact with and combine abilities. Synchronizing all the particles is kind of difficult so I use low-latency streaming like Steam Remote Play Together and Parsec Arcade to allow multiplayer over the internet with massive physics simulations. Parsec Arcade was free to use, this service probably didn't make them any money, so they are shutting it down and focusing on their enterprise business. Hosting it on Parsec Arcade let a lot of people with computers that didn't meet the requirements play the game on my computer remotely, and also it allowed people to just come and go without worrying about invites and the game would automatically split the screen to the number of players. And now I have uploaded the version that was there to itchio where people can download it for free and itchio is just a free place to put prototypes as I do want to get this out, but I have a lot of work I want to do before I release on Steam. And that's basically all, it's not some shady thing.
Офигенно!
Physics and shaders are beautiful as always, though I hope to see improvements in the controls, being able to use a mouse to look around would be nice
Also not a fan of the player colliding with the water
@@Thats_Cool_Jack Yeah, the controls are a bit of a mess. As a quick fix, I might use Tab to toggle the settings box (and mouse relative/absolute mode), and use mouse look-around when it's not there. I'm thinking there should be different modes in addition to the current FPS mode. You probably want a 3rd person fly camera, no gravity and moving when you don't want it to, no box boundaries, good for a more god-mode like play, or material editing, sculpting. Also instead of split-screen multiplayer I've been thinking of adding a single third-person camera that keeps all the players in view.
It's just so cool!
Do you think you could make it behave like a tornado or maybe a black hole?
That would be cool to watch.
Thanks! You can currently kind of get a black hole by combining the vortex and attract forces
@@GrantKot I'm really looking forward to seeing it in the next short video >:p
Does the demo on itchio work on your computer?
@@GrantKot
I completely forgot I can test it out myself and it's just amazing. Got the BH working too!
I can't believe it runs so well on my gtx 1080 laptop, it's just so well optimized.
I feel like we need an Abriss-style game where you are in charge of the ocean, trying to deal as much damage as possible to cities located near the coast.
Some being on cliffs, some further away.... awww.
I am no programmer, just a gamer who followed your project for quite a while and it's absolutely mind-boggling to play around in it.
I wish I was able to enjoy Your project for it's innovative ideas, perfect coding and progressive use of the new technology, but really...
I'm just a guy who likes to go splish and splash and boom and spinny-woooo! on their old gaming laptop.
I wish you all the best in all you do, so we can all splash a little more the next time C:
@@MrHeliMan Hey, I've uploaded a new update on Parsec with local split-screen multiplayer with multiple gamepads. I'm curious how your laptop might handle it :). There is also a settings checkbox to make player 1 use kb & mouse (I added this for people who might just have 1 gamepad, and I guess it's useful in general for anyone with less than 4 gamepads).
I can't run it due to an "Initialization error" with the message "Failure with HRESULT of 80004002." This seems to be the "No such interface supported" error.
Are you on Windows 10 and updated? Can you also check the debug log txt file and let me know what the last line says?
@@GrantKot Yes, I'm on Windows 10, on build 18363.1556, which I suppose is somewhat old. The debug log is:
2023-04-19 18:34:22.010 DEBUG [17144] [wWinMain@34] Initialized Log
2023-04-19 18:34:22.011 DEBUG [17144] [wWinMain@41] CPU SIMD Check Passed
2023-04-19 18:34:22.158 DEBUG [17144] [wWinMain@55] Game object created

2023-04-19 18:34:22.189 DEBUG [17144] [wWinMain@115] ImGui Initialized
@@vitulus_ I've pushed an updated build to the itchio that might fix the issue. I have switched over to using the DX12 Agility SDK, which allows the use of newer DX12 features/interfaces on older Windows builds.
@@GrantKot It works!
@@vitulus_ Thanks for testing it out and reporting with the logs/error message! That was very helpful in figuring out what the issue was.
Could this theoretically simulate earth, water and air? Earth could just be really dense, rigid particles. Water we can see in this video looks amazing. And air is just invisible, low-density water. So maybe you could have a game with an actual physical air that the characters could actually physically breathe in and out, walk on earth that can be displaced by a tornado, and swim in physicalized water. Right?
Yeah, I can simulate those three to some degree. Not sure if you're able to run the demo on your system. But I do have some granular/sand/snow that can be tweaked to be earth. And yeah, for example, the mist or foam can be tweaked to be even less dense. And you can make the air clear (by either turning down the scattering, or absorption values). So you should be able to do that in the current demo.
And you technically can do fire too, with the emittance value in the optics properties.
@@GrantKot Thank you so much for the detailed reply! I really hope one day I or someone else will utilize this tech to create a Minecraft-type voxel-based fantasy MMO. I truly believe it will take the world by storm, like WoW did, but unfortunately we are still a long ways away from that kind of processing power. For now, I can only dream when I see videos like yours :)
does it use raymarching?
Yeah it raymarches to inject light into a volume, as well as to gather lighting for reflection/refraction.
@@GrantKot The water is drawn by the raymarcher, right? that means if the crystal were invisible, the raymarcher would still render the water.
@@amireasy6419 Currently I use the rasterized part to start the rays. But yeah, in the future I can also add raymarching between the eye and first surface.
@@GrantKot Your work is so Amazon.
