Because of the Anglican Ordinates that have now joined the Catholic Church, the Book of Common Prayer has become a Catholic devotion as a simplified alternative to the Divine Office.

@Taxi Girl Pope is considered to be the False Prophet by the non-Catholic Christians of old. And yeah, Protestants don't believe the pope is descendend from Peter. Not sure how tracing your lineage would matter to whether you were the antichrist or not though.

I was raised an Orthodox wich has adopted alot of Catholic rituals and beliefs like the prayer to saint and angels and prayer to idols and just stupid hoidays. Guys leave religion and come to Christ with an honest heart. Stay close to his word and ask Him to show you the way. Religion will never bring you closer to God. I left orthodoxy and am now born again and i am a follower of the way! Roman catholicisim is a pagan religion where the pope teaches he is the only way to Christ and that he is Christ on earth! Please stay away from all these pagan religions and dont get your ears tickled by these false prophets!

@James Clarke James thank you for being concerned for me. But the bible is my only authority and from the word of God i can clearly see that catholicism is a false mystery babylonian religion. I was a orthodox for 21 years and i was on my way to hell and only when i read Gods word did i see how false catholicism and orthodoxy actually were. There is no way one reads the bible and says " yup this is the church Christ built".
Let me just list some problems.
      1. They believe in a works based salvation, they believe that baptism washes away original sin when baptism is symbolic and is only a picture of the gospel (death, burial and ressurection)
      2. One has to be old enough to believe to actually be baptized
Check acts 8:37 ( if it wasnt removed from your bible) Baptizing a baby wich has no sin would deceive the kid later in its life by having him think he is saved but in all reality he is on his way to hell.
      3. Pope says he is the vicar of Christ anything he says on the chair of St. Peter cannot be false.
He also says he is Christ on earth! ( check the doctrine of the catholic church) I mean that is as satanic as it gets. Where in the bible does it say mans word is above Gods? And didnt they crucify Peter upside down?
      4. Eucharist- the catholics believe when they pray over the bread and the wine it becomes the LITERAL flesh and blood of Christ! Which is actually a old pagan sacrifice, please do some research and see that some pagans when they sacrificed a animal they would think the animal became their God and after they ate him they were one with God. The bible makes it clear the Lords supper is only a symbolic ordinance.
      Romans 6:10-11
For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      5. They believe someone can lose their salvation and again this is heretical and unbiblical!
      John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have EVERLASTING life.
James i would go on for days and i want to IMPLORE you to search the scriptures my friend. I was saved once i READ the word of God and PLACED my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. When you place your faith in him you pass from death unto life in the blink of an eye. My friend you must see that our ONLY authority is the Bible wich is the Word of God. These faiths claim to trust in it but never encourage people to read them or live by them and they put their false traditions over the Word Of God. Remember that the "church" kept bibles chained to the pulpit and would kill anybody if they had their one bible, they would read from it in latin at mass so that no one would understand. Those should be red flags for you right away. Because the word of God is the only WAY we can have a relationship with God and thats because Jesus is the word of God!
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
      John 1:1‭, ‬10‭-‬14 KJV
And there is ONE mediator between God and man and that is the LORD JESUS CHRIST you dont have to pray to mary or mary mom or marys grandmom or to saints. The Bible says he makes intercession for us unto this day.
James its never to late to leave this false idolatrous religion like i said i was a orthodox for 21 years. My friend this is how you can be saved TODAY
      1. Repent (change your mind)
About God and about your sin, you must see that you are a sinner on his way to hell.
      2. Believe the Gospel that Jesus died ONCE for your sin and that he was buried and that he rose again on the third day according to the scriptures.
      3. Call on his name in prayer
And keep in mind James that God is in heaven and he is a very zealous God , NOWHERE in the bible does it say to pray to a man made statue (idol) pray to him up in Heaven. I will be praying for you and like i said James i want you to please read the bible i would suggest reading the book of John or Romans and remember that while there is breath in you its never to late to turn from your idols to serve the one TRUE AND LIVING GOD JEHOVAH! Im goanna leavee you with some bible verses.
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall.
      Proverbs 16:5‭, ‬18 KJV
Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.
      Isaiah 45:20 KJV
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
      1 Timothy 2:5‭-‬6 KJV
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
      John 14:6‭-‬7 KJV
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
      1 John 4:1 KJV
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
      Ephesians 2:8‭-‬10 KJV
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
      John 17:17 KJV

      @James Clarke
Well James im goanna try to answer in the same order to every topic you mentioned. So just because the catholics believe in the trinity doesnt mean anything because thats what the devil does he mixes 99 truths with one lie and the scripture says a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Thats like saying muslims are christians because they also believe Jesus was a great prophet. I want you to know that catholics, orthodox, jehovahs witness, latter day saints etc ARE NOT CHRISTIANS , they are lost deceived sinners on their way to hell. A true christian is indwelt by the Holy Ghost through the grace of God and strives to be like Christ and lives BY HIS WORD and that is a true Christians only authority. Not traditions or works or the vain words of men. The catholic church is the harlot spoken of in Revelation and the Queen of heaven from the book of Jeremiah. She is a whore with mystery written upon her forhead and she is drunk with the blood of saints. It is a mysterious religion no different than hinduism, budhism etc. People dont even know what they worship in this false religion , because it certainly isnt Jesus. The catholic church has killed apostles and true christians since the beginning of the new testament. Even if someone refused to baptize their baby or participate to christmas mass they would take that individual and burn them at the stake and they would do the same if they caught you reading a bible. Those are FACTS and part of history. Research it! All you did James was that you went from one whore(atheism) to another whore(protestantism) and to whore dressed in purple (catholicism) you just switched harlots and im not telling you out of hate. I dont hate you James.... i hate your wicked false satanic religion.
      1. The LIKE FIGURE whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
      1 Peter 3:21 KJV
I wrote the letters that CLEARLY explain the verse and it obviously states baptism is a picture of the Gospel.
      EPHESIANS 2:8
FOR BY GRACE ARE YE SAVED THROUGH FAITH; AND THAT NOT OF YOURSELVES: it is the gift of God:
Another verse you choose to ignore. Why are you ignoring Gods word James? First you said you were proud on the second comment you say youre not. Thinking you are saved by your works just shows how proud you really are. Because you put aside Gods word and say that the works of your hands saves you when God says that your saved BY HIS GRACE and that you works NEVER will be good enough to do what he did through his Son. You cannot bribe God with your filthy good works.
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
      Isaiah 64:6 KJV
      2. Your bible doesnt have acts 8:37 because you probably read a modern perversion of Gods word wich IS NOT A BIBLE ...that pushes catholic doctrine. By removing this verse it makes it look like baptism saves and now they have an excuse to baptize infants. CLEARLY there is something that CAN HINDER a person from being baptized and that is NOT BELIEVING ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. Can a infant believe on the Lord James? Baptism is for born again believers and this is a MAJOR problem with catholics they spiritualize almost all scripture and they dont take Gods word for what it actually says. GOD MEANS WHAT HE SAYS AND SAYS WHAT HE MEANS. And no one was ever saved by circumcision paul makes that clear in Romans we were ALWAYS saved by grace through faith.
      3. I will let paul handle this one....
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
      Galatians 1:6‭-‬10 KJV
You have gone after a strange gospel and after a different Jesus ...Paul makes it clear that even in his day there was another gospel another jesus and another spirit. If you think you are like Christ who lived a perfect life and bore the sins of the world for people who didnt deserve it..... then i am just astonished at how deceived you are James! This is from the pits of hell and the most satanic thing I HAVE EVER HEARD!
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
      2 Timothy 4:3‭-‬4 KJ
In John 6 Jesus is simply talking about accepting his sacrifice.
and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in REMEMBRANCE of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in REMEMBRANCE of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do SHEW the Lord's death till he come.
      1 Corinthians 11:24‭-‬26 KJV
I capitalized the word remembrance in case you missed it.
      5. It is very simple
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
      Romans 4:5 KJV
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
      John 6:47 KJV
James i can tell you %100 that God did not lead you into this wicked false religion. You gave heed to unclean spirits and are deceived by them and their "bibles". This couldnt have been God because God does not contradict himself and wouldnt have pushed you into a religion that goes FULLY against his Word. The word of God is Jesus and Jesus is God...
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
      John 1:1‭-‬3 KJV
Youre going after wolves in sheeps clothing, you are a blind man being led by the blind and you will all fall into the same pit. Repent James and seek the Lord while he may be found! Believe the gospel because this is the reason you cant understand the scripture, because you havent Believed ON the Lord Jesus. You believe in A jesus plus your filthy works.
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for IF righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in VAIN.
      Galatians 2:21 KJV
I care for your soul James and i want to see you in heaven. Pray and ask God for wisdom and guidance and to protect you from these filthy spirits that brought you into this mess. I hope you will place your faith in The Lord Jesus of the Bible and KNOW that ONLY by what he did on Mt. Calvary can you have eternal life! I will be praying for you!

Hello. The 1928 American B.O.C.P. also uses the psalms from "The Great Bible", which was from Coverdale. Very good translation.
William Tyndale was burned to death by R.C. henchmen in Belgium before he could finish the translation of the O.T. (aka: 'The Hebrew Bible"). After that happened William Coverdale and another gent took up where Tyndale had left off and completed the whole O.T.

I have The Episcopal Church's 1979 revision, myself which contains modern and traditional language services. I really want to get a 1928 Episcopal BCP or the 1662. Wish my parish used traditional language more often during the later services. Can't seem to muster strength for 7:30 AM too much lol yet i wake up all hours of the week for work

Look into the Continuing Church movement. There are plenty out there who use the 28, but not in the ECUSA...they have disregarded the faith they were founded on. the 79 reflects this to a large degree.

The 1979 includes much of the 1928 language and structure under the Rite I options. The Continuing Church movement represent unfortunate splits and breaks from the mainstream of the Anglican world. There are also parishes in the US that use the 1928, though as I mentioned, much of what is loved about '28 is in the '79 with few modifications.

    When wickedness triumphs
    and the poor are betrayed,
come to your kingdom, strong and holy God,
    destroy the masks of evil
    and reign in our broken hearts;

The church I have started attending uses the Book of Alternative Services of the Anglican Church of Canada in Sunday service. However, I think if I were to adopt the "daily office" (as I believe it is called) I would probably prefer a 1662 myself. I like that the original 1662 contains Apocrypha readings. Not one to take it as God's word but I believe there is likely much wisdom to be discerned from these works. Modern prayer books of course cut out those readings.

Of later B.C.P. editions, the current one of the Reformed Episcopal Church is particularly straightforward to use and guides the worshipper more fully. I also like very much, as a Lutheran, the Scottish Book of Common Prayer (of the Episcopal Church of Scotland), the edition from the the early decades of the 20th century.

Most definitely a Protestant but he would have considered himself a Catholic. Mind you, the Reformers (all of the early ones) wanted to simply reform the Catholic Church. All of them including Calvin retained a liturgical pattern of worship. Principles of worship like Normative or Regulative came about a 100 years later. The Reformers believed they were only Catholic in the sense that they wanted to return the Church to truths like faith alone (as believed and taught by people like Augustine of Hippo). They believed themselves to be the true "Catholics." However, some new age "Anglicans," starting in the 1840s, have tried to put a spin on them. If you read the liturgy (which is theologically driven) in the BCP, and the 39 Articles, you'll see a very Calvinistic/Lutheran reformed and evangelical Biblical Authoritative belief structure.

Scriptures are KJV...and they are usually of the older style English than compared to a new KJV (which was updated until like 1764). However, the Psalter is an older translation; was done during the 1500s by a guy named Coverdale. Also, the Lord's Prayer is the Coverdale translation. Check out the Collect Prayers, it goes Prayer, Epistle Scripture lesson and than a Gospel Lesson.

@@paulcaswell2813 I don't know what you mean by "Coverdale's translations do the impossible." Regarding your last statement: True. For a non-inspired work, it is awesome. (I do use it as a prayer book).
BLESSED Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and comfort of thy holy Word...
O LORD our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day: Defend us in the same same and with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger...

What is the purpose of the colorful ribbon markers in the 1928 BCP? There has to be a meaning to it. So, I figured I would ask you. Semper Fi

The daily prayers require flipping around the prayerbook. So the ribbons help to keep your place. This edition only comes with one black ribbon. Matthew added the gold and purple ribbons.

I was wondering if the Bible reading goes in order (lectio continua). Thanks.

In the 1662 BCP, it is lectio continua. The later Prayer books, especially the American ones, moved to a more topical, holiday focus.

I am Reformed and there isn't any meaty daily prayer book such as the RCC Breviary. I picked up a set but I find too much Mariology in it. Can you recommend a meaty tome for worship we Reformed can use ?

@chancha807 - Hello. The 1662 B.O.C.P. is NOT from Rome nor does it have Popish/Mary stuff in it. It was the official Prayer Book of the Anglican Church, 1662. The psalter (Psalms) is from the Protestant "Coverdale" or "Great Bible". It is very good.
In the back of the 1662 B.O.C.P. (and the 1928 American) is the "Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion". They are the official doctrines of the Anglican church at the time of King James I and VI, the monarch who succeeded Queen Elizabeth I. They are Protestant, not R.C. or E.O.. Romish/Papist stuff is repudiated in Articles XIX, XXII, XXIV, XXV, XXVIII, XXX, XXXI, XXXII.
      {Sadly, the modern 2023 A.D. Anglican Church is a wishy-washy, lefto-liberal, apostate ship with apostate Bishops in charge. I doubt that they have ever read the 1662 Book of Common Prayer or the 39 Articles of Religion. }

You’ve probably already found a suitable version of the book of common prayer, but just in case you haven’t yet, InterVarsity Press publishes a version of the 1662 that many people find helpful.

Why do you keep ads on your channel? I just saw an ad on your channel just before your video with a young girl saying she loves to have sex on her period...really?? Why does anyone need to know that much less make money off an ad like that especially if you’re a professing Christian.
Don’t take money from the lost world. If you are truly walking in the center of the precious Lord Jesus’ will then He will provide for your every need.

RUclips forcefully places ads. It’s not Matthew’s choice.

Excellent video Pastor. One question ... is this a Smythe Sewn book? I have a reprint by the ACA traditional Anglican church of the KJV with Apocrypha with the 1928 BCP in Genuine Leather, which is better in my opinion than the 1979 BCP as far as services go, but not as good as the 1662 BCP, which I prefer. I believe this edition of the 1662 will go well with the reprint, and the couple of other hand size leather books I have for devotions: the Valley of Vision, Three Forms of Unity, OPC Westminster Standards, and the imitatiion leather Morning and Evening. I switch off on which Confession or Catechism I use, and use the Heidelberg on Sundays. This makes for good variety in the devotions, I think. I tried other ways of making devotions, but this new gives me the variety I want.

Cambridge does publish a combined 1662 Book of Common Prayer with the King James Version, a Pitt Minion print. All in one book

Looked on Amazon and they want $78 dollars for this book. In my opinion that is pretty much a rip off considering the quality of Cambridge Bibles has gone down hill over the years.
