I have a 2003 Explorer. At different times I have found five different wiring breaks in the drivers door wiring harness where it connects to the body. I have soldered extension wires to repair and extend each wire. It appeared as if the wiring harness was too tight stressing the wires. The breaks were easy to find, I just pulled back the rubber boot and I could see the broken and separated wires. This troubleshooting guide is excellent, but I would visually look for broken wires first. It only takes a few seconds and you do not have to take off the door panel to check ( but you do have to take off the door panel to fix the broken wire).
thanks Brian for video, looks like vref is maybe a 5volt square wave just like BMW door switches then when it's locked/unlocked it sends 11volts over the same wire to actuate the solenoids would be good to see it in scope or graphing multimeter but a big thank you anyway cheers sandy

Thanks for the Info! I just happen to have an 05 Navigator with the same problem, I kinda figured it might be a switch because it works from the passenger side. but I will do the test as soon as I get the title, the customer abandoned it back in October. Thanks for your help:)

Hello, excellent explanation, and especially thanks for showing the wiring diagram. Can you tell me, the jumper that you used to test the circuit from 4 to 3 and 4 to 7, did the jumper have a resistor in it, or is it simply a length of wire to create a short circuit?
similar test procedure for the explorer/ expedition?

i love my 2004 Lincoln Navigator..only thing i hate about it is the OEm power retractable runmimg boards. i took them off and replaced them with a pair of 2004 ford expedition running boards.. direct bolt on

I'm working on a 2002 model Navigator. A few strange things have been observed with this vehicle such as the rear lift gate opening on its own while parking and the exterior courtesy lights along with the dome lights would stay on upwards of 35 minutes or so. I have not been able to duplicate these issues, but I have witnessed them myself. I'm curious about the PRNDL indicator light. I noticed yours is illuminated at the beginning of the video. When is this light supposed to come on and how long? I've been told the instrument cluster loses gauge illumination intermittently, but the needles stay red. I have a ghost in the machine somewhere.
holy crap, just got finished with my explorer and came to check my email and saw this, the unlock on the driver door didn't work. took off the panel, popped the panel Christmas trees(yours is much easier), took out the switch from its frame ,carefully took the switch apart , sprayed it with maf cleaner. works better than new, tested before the door panel went back. i put a tiny bit of Motorcraft xg-12 on the contacts too, but that is prob unnecessary.
I think you can activate locks thru the scan tool too to test. A new switch is like 30 bucks, try this before paying for one.

what is the best way to change spark plugs on a 07' Explorer, with keeping the possibility of stripping the threads in mind... warm engine or cold??. thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you are talking about 4.6 3 piece plugs?If so,best way to replace them is warm with some carb cleaner into plug hole to clean some of the carbon build up..
Awesome information, my 2004 Lincoln Navi driver door power door lock just crapped out. I will do exactly what you said to see if it’s just the switch. Where can you get the jumpers with the pins that you use? Did you Custom make them?

Would you advise to perform a continuity test on the switch itself to verify it was defective or is it better to check the wiring first?

I have a 2004 lincoln navigator. The turn signal indicator switch is broken. Online cheap as 150 to 250 bucks but I found the 2004 Ford expedition xlt looks the same. Is that part the same on both or is there a difference? . The Ford model is 80 bucks. They look identical...

hey man just wondering when a 3.5 ford engine leaks from the water pump will that water drip from around the rear seal or back of oil pan it is a 08 the dealer said it was the water pump
Couldn’t find a vid on mine. 1999 f150 when I hit the lock or unlock switch both sides try to lock and unlock but act like they are jammed. Pass door switch same way. Both sides did it same time. Now have to lock manually. What do you think causes this or I would like to see a vid on it. Can’t see both actuators going bad at same time

You posted this video just in time. The driver's side dock lock on my son's '06 Escape stopped working yesterday. The remote only unlocks/locks the other doors & the switch doesn't open any. The passenger side switch unlocks/locks all doors except the drivers door. Is it safe to assume that the driver's side switch is bad or is there something else I should check?

If the switch is bad like in this video you can pop the top off the switch and clean the contacts.
Hi, my 2004 Navigator has lost some of the functions under the setup menu. When I say lost, I mean they disappear from the Setup menu, such functions as reverse mirrors, easy exit seat, autolamp delay, reverse sensing system, power deployable running boards, etc. Therefore I don't have access to those functions anymore. Power lift gate module is working fine. Do you know how I get those settings displayed again back in the setup menu? I read some people had this issue either when they changed the battery or when they removed the error codes with diag tool, but no one wrote any fix. I'll appreciate if you can help me on that

About a month ago the Radio/CD/USB all started cutting out about every 4 seconds, it's like a skip in a record no matter what media I am using it cuts out every 4 seconds. I asked around Ford-Land and no one has any clue. Have you heard of this? Any Ideas?

My 2010 navigator lock button won't work for driver and passenger but unlock works for both. Its not the switch bc grounding out the pin didn't lock it but it did unlock it. Door locks work with key fob and door code buttons. Where should I look next?
Hello, I would like to know where you live. My 2004 Lincoln Navigator truck does not open the doors and neither does the rear one. I have taken it to several mechanics and nobody solves the problem.
Just because I'm a Nerd....you said the Vref circuit was 5 volts, so why was it showing near battery voltage on the Fluke when you performed the lock/unlock test with the remote to wake up the module?
can you please suggest me any idea if working without Electrical Diagrams? only dealerships have access to the Electrical Diagrams in my country.

I might of missed it but how to do fix it. I have a 06 navi. Similar issue but mine only locks and doesn't unlock. Please show how to repair it. Moreover I got my remote wet and it goes crazy- unlocking, locking, opening liftgate, etc. How can I fix it. I already dried it, sprayed it with sensor spray, removed and replaced the battery and nothing works.
My power locks aren't working, driver window doesn't work, power lift gate isn't working, power 3rd row isn't working, all of my fuses are good, any suggestions on what could be the problem? Any help is appreciated

I have a 03 Lincoln navigator I have a problem with my locks...they lite up but dont work...I've checked fuse and they are good....can any oné help
Can anyone help me a few months ago I slammed my door shut (drivers door) and the door look fell inside the door. The lock still worked fine so I didn't bother opeining it to re attach. A week ago my door handle broke. So today I replaced it and re attached the little lock back on the acuator now it doesn't work. I don't think the acuator is bad. Since it was working 5 mins before I did it and never gave me issues. I couldn't have shorted something because all the other locks work
my 2002 expedition doors dont unlock only drivers door all door actuators work when i press lock all the doors lock but when i press unlock only the drivers door unlocks all switches work and also the fob please help ford tech
03 Lincoln aviator have lights on the heater and cooling seats button on drivers door .however the heating and cooling seats don't work when the button is pushed..also instrument cluster is dim and sometimes will get bright on its own and them dim again any ideas

Why do they say "VRef" instead of "5V"? Is the reference voltage ever anything other than 5V?
believe it or not, must of these problems with this particular navigator is water damage. usually the actual problem is rust in the switch. just take it off, clean the rust out from the connectors and put it back together. it should work.

Geovanni Delgado yea any car on airbags gives issues when old. Replace with coils the cheapest kit is 250 online install and get a allignment
