"Trick people into seeing a movie that is smarter than one they would want to see." I've never heard the difference between story & plot widdled down to something I can actually hang on to. Thanks, Seth.

@JoshNortonalias It implies the exact opposite. If he tought the audience was stupid, he woudn't be making a secretly smart movie. It works because people connect to it. They are using people's expectations, not their inteligence. Most filmmakers do the opposite. They make empty packages.

that reversal is part of Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey" also called the "Monomyth". In the journey (about midway or the middle of the second act), the hero eventually succeeds in his goal . The one that was assigned to him in the start. The plot. The unforseen consequences of achieving the goal cause a new set of more serious problems (end of second act). The hero realizes what he/she truly wants and needs to do (the story) and sets forth into the third act for the climax.

@0:53 ..."and then it became the most successful high school movie of all time." Superbad was great, but I mean you're facing some stiff competition when talking about the best high school movies of all time. Napoleon Dynamite, Back to the future, Grease, Breakfast club, Ferris's day off, Bill and Ted, Dead poets society.. Superbad is only #25 for Rotten Tomatoes high school movies, Seth's ego is more impressive than his comedy

Seth Rogen would have made this video length 4:20 instead of 4:18.... just saying!

Smart-dumb comedy. What he’s saying has merit. It’s interesting and he’s right. It seems simplistic and obvious but if you don’t get it past that then I’m not in any state of patience to explain it.

You don't need to relate to people to give a great movie. Authenticity with enough creativity will draw people in.
I don't want to see my life in a movie. I'm watching movies so I don't have to see my life.

Slightly negative but hopefully constructive feedback: Just a quick note on the after-talk where you say "why not subscribe" - I just gotta say I find that a poor way to sell a product. "Why not." There are always reasons. Please tell us why we should subscribe, and not why we shouldn't shouldn't. Also: it's a bit long to put this after a 3 minute video, to go into the introductionary "hey thanks for watching" Just say: "If you liked this video and want to contribute, then [insert action here] so I can make more and keep them coming for you. If you want to contribute but can't, please just enjoy them, because that's my ultimate goal. Thanks"
