@@MrAsmontero I mean yes I do think there are a lot of things to improve in the system but also like @MiSTaH bOmBAsTiK said... Bill Hader as a teenager probably did not have the maturity and talent that the Bill Hader who'd spent 6 years working as PA in LA had acquired. We all have our own rhythm, not everybody needs to be ready right after high school. (which is an inspiring thought indeed)

It's sad, especially for people who are as introverted as Bill. Articulation is definitely not his problem but trying to speak out in a place where your words don't matter to begin with can make it almost impossible for that person to believe in themselves so I'm glad he found some strength in him when he grew up and just went with it.

Better than pretty much all late night talk shows

    • @NESherv
      @NESherv 6 лет назад +21

That's because those late night talk shows are all pre-discussed and rehearsed. Ever notice those blue cards that the hosts have on hand? Those are their questions to ask. The outlandish stories the guests tell are often cherry-picked and edited by outside factors (publicists, managers, producers, etc), and they don't really reflect how a real interview should go. All the host is trying to do is steer the conversation towards getting that answer from the guest, and do it in a humorous way. Why do they do this? Because it's _entertaining._ It's not because it's intellectually stimulating, interesting, or valuable. It's because it will get them more views - and more viewers - as a result.
Off Camera isn't here for our entertainment. It's here for our education.

I’m from Oklahoma too. There’s a saying that’s an unspoken law here, “Let the lips of another praise you and not your own.” OU has more merit scholars per capita than any other public university. It’s very difficult to get into OU. Bill went to Edison Preparatory School in Tulsa, It’s very rigorous academically. Getting a D there would be B in another mediocre school. So he’s down playing himself to a certain extent. When he was on “Finding Your Roots,” and told he was the great grandson of King Edward I of England and Charlemagne he responded, “Charlemagne? I couldn’t even get the coffee maker to work this morning!” His self depreciation is charming.

Don't waste 4-6 years of your young life and hundreds of thousands of dollars - at interest - going to a damned college.
Go to a Jr College for a year or two, and take a S#!T ton of aptitude tests there. Keep your ears open and ask every counselor you can see lots of questions - women are normally great at 'networking' - then once you have an idea of what you think you'd be good at, and like doing, find a Union and go join.
4 years of school - usually two nights a week after busting your ass all day, all while earning a damned good wage working at different job sites.
Electricians now only have to work 5 years and they're vested, we carpenters - always lagging behind every other trade - have to work ten.
You will never hear or read about this, but the US has a dearth of skilled/technical workers.
Think non-traditional jobs (jobs guys normally do). Sheet metal worker, pipe or steam fitter - welder - heavy equipment operator - want to be an electrician? Know algebra and take a test or two and sign up at your local Electrician's Union.

We wouldn't know him from SNL, but surely his genius would have shone through in the screenplays he would have written in his 20s and 30s. @0:33 there was a long-running gag in the industry where a busboy or cocktail waitress would say something like: 'I'm an actor, or I want to act, but what I really want to do is direct.' You'll see that often in older tv shows & sometimes movies.
@0:15 Watch #Barry on HBO everyone!
@1:04 I don't think working 18 hour days - even traveling to Central America sometimes - qualifies as "just sitting around." :)
#BillHader is so self-effacing, so utterly humble. Besides being a walking Wikimedia,* he also enjoys music (he plays guitar and bass guitar) and he blows through I-pods.
It takes perseverance to keep fresh on the guitar. Two weeks of not fretting and you begin to lose your callouses.
He may not have his wife to attend to, but he has his 'Hader sisters' to raise & pick up from school & outings, doing non-stop press for Barry & soon Empress of Serenity, then getting some hoops and baseball time in.
Running on his treadmill takes time, meetings with agents, managers, studio people for different projects ... all this and season 4 he is directing all 8 episodes himself!
The thread that runs through everything? His dealing with anxiety. One of the things he does, besides TM and working out, to stay calm, is he self-medicates with sugar. Sugar not only keeps the spare tire from ever going away, but like alcohol (same thing once it's in your bloodstream), it severely messes with your mood.
Anyway ... I pray for Bill, I really really hope he doesn't burn out. An 11 year marriage was one victim, I don't want Bill, himself to be the next.

Can you link the clips to the website's full episode relevant to that clip? It's hard to find and I lose interest trying to find the person I want to see amid the vast catalog of other celebs.

Living here in OK I see hit point. I wouldn’t change my main residence even though I have to keep it toned down so I don’t draw negative attention. It really depends on who you’re surrounded by. As eccentric and artsy as I am. The support is here. It’s more not being able to reach your goals because you kinda have to know someone that knows someone.

I wonder if the Dust Bowl experience has lasting collective effects in Oklahoma. An entire state's hopes and aspirations brushed aside in a torrent of failure and crippling debt. The fruited plain turned into a moonscape.

Man, he could not have been more accurate on the perception that Oklahoma's have towards genuinely confident Men. I can't speak for women on this one. I was born in OKC, raised in Dallas, Tx until 19.... Life has brought me back to the Oklahoma side. Many people over 45 years of age in Oklahoma do not like "extroverts". They cnstantly accuse people with great personalities of being arrogant when they are simply being themselves and are genuinely kind to others. I guess confidence mirrors the traits of arrogant douches that bullied people. It is a tough part of the culture to rationalize
