Very true. I did stuff in the arts. I had to back out because of personal family stuff. Every one of my friends that kept at it for at least 10 years has "made it." They're not househould names like some of these celebrities, but they are known within their niche and sought after within their craft. It takes a lot of mental fortitude to keep going at one thing for a long time, so that's probably one of the hardest parts of the journey.

Writing your own scripts so you aren't beholden to casting directors to give you roles; auditioning for everything; taking jobs when they're offered to you, even if it's not ideal; networking (even though I despise it and don't do it); making your own short films; creating your own opportunities; building a creative community around you; volunteering to help others. And that's if you're talented enough and ready to actually be there. If not, read more, watch movies, plays, take classes, etc. I could go on.
