  • Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg had written several hit movies without studio input before writing Green Hornet, but for some reason on this one the studio decided to step in.

      Chris Pratt would have been better casting for the title role.

    2:28 - 2:40 And this is exactly what happens to film makers that break out with their first movie or two...the studios get involved and crush that creativity that sparked these film makers in the first place. Really relevant insight and one that should be noted for those up and coming film makers. I loved how he is so forthcoming and honest, straight from the hip about this.

      i imagine that if they woulda let green hornet go it woulda been a better movie, of course they wanna watch over everything since so much money is going towards it but if you have a good track record why dont dumb ppl/studios realize they are just ruining it

      You're putting apples and oranges and a slice of a fucking pizza in the same blender. Some movies are better with freedom, like most of his, and others require a shitload of notes. There's no right and wrong. Take Bad boys for example cause I just saw it again for the 15th time whatever. 15 times and it's still hilarious ... That's a lot of hard work, no matter how they did it, and my money is on a very detailed analysis of every little thing. There are probably 3-4 lines in that script that screw up the magic and they stick out like a motherfucker.

    Even though the Green Hornet had some fun moments it was very forgettable. Now I want to see the film that Seth intended to make. I'm not surprised at all that execs who don't know shit about anything came in and squeezed some of the creative life out of this film. I think it could have been huge and worthy of sequels. The execs killed the life of their own i.p. Creatives have to be so wary of these soul suckers because everybody with an opinion thinks they need to share it. Having money or a title does not an expert make. What makes an expert is their experience in the field. What a money manager should be doing is looking at the success of previous films and thinking exclusively about how much it money it will take to make films of similar quality. Why would these people offer artistic advice when clearly it's not their field of expertise? These people don't know how dumb they actually are and the money they were born into keeps them from learning anything important, in my opinion.

    • @Reggie2000

      @@jeffreybradford9838 Agreed. The best way I ever heard it put was like this. An executive wants just enough input to put their fingerprints on it if it does well, but not so many fingerprints that they get blamed if it doesn't do well.
      But ultimtily they do finance your films, so maybe he shouldn't be his usual arrogant self about the whole thing. Just a thought.

      @@Reggie2000 You definitely have to make compromises. Which is totally fine as long as you don't compromise your beliefs, your values, or anything like that.

    • @Reggie2000
      @Reggie2000 4 года назад

      @@jeffreybradford9838 We were mostly in sync on your first post, but maybe here is where we diverge. I just can't agree with you on this, when it comes to films. Maybe painting, music, standup, books, but not film. Why? Because of how the industry works, how their "viewed", and what they become.
      I for one, believe it or not, write screenplays. Have I sold one yet? Nope, but I have written three. Know what I have learned? No matter what my values and beliefs are, if they want to buy my screenplay and change everything, they will at the drop of a hat. So all I really need to write is a great first two acts, on a great story, and then try and get it into the right hands. Not easy on that last part. So now they make it. Should their own beliefs and values matter? NOPE! Why not? Because they are not paying for it, and they probably want the masses to see it. You see, film, unlike other mediums, is 100% profit driven. It really is. It can't exist without it, because it costs to much to make. Finally, unlike books and paintings, films have a shelf life. Beyond the first 18 months, their mostly worthless. Far less then 1% stand the test of time money wise. Right now with all of the new online movie apps their doing well again, but just 10 years ago, anyone could have bought the rights to 100 films for a few hundred thousand. I'm not even kidding, I saw it done. I'm not saying Back to the Future or anything, but for every BTTF, there is 1000 bad movies. But even if your Citizen Kane, it's like have you ever seen it? Me neither. It's that shelf life I was talking about. Painting, writing and performing songs, standup, even writing a book and self publishing to Amazon is cheap. Like under 100 bucks to start. But film is just to expensive to be a narcissist about it, and that is what Seth is deep down, a narcissist. Not trying to take shots, but between his clip and others I have seen him in, Seth likes him Some Seth and thinks at this point in his life, he is an expert and everyone else, especially the studio are dump people.
      Finally, Seth isn't even talking about values and beliefs here. He is just saying that he knows more. You know. Like a narcissist.
