    Regarding the Super Vintage: Why don’t you just match the master volume knob to your volume when bypassed? Isn’t that what it’s for?

    • @IvanBassist
      @IvanBassist  9 месяцев назад +6

      So I just went back and tested the unit to match volume. I stand corrected. I don"t know why I remembered that was the case.I will Edith that portion from the video

    I really wish that they had voiced the SGT-circuit differently at higher gain stages. At the lowest setting possible it’s pretty darn sweet - but, as you pointed out: it really starts farting out once you go for more of a “drive tone”.

    Great video. Suggestion: next time show us the settings of each pedal! I own the origin effects and love it, sounds very musical and i was looking exactly for something not that versatile but really good on what it does. Sometimes i think pedals with too much options you end not really diggin into it and being not that fast on changing settings and getting the sound you want

    I was made to understand that the strength of the SGT-DI was the B15 emulation.

    • @stevendawson2331
      @stevendawson2331 6 месяцев назад

      Agreed from personal experience. I never use the SVT emulation on mine. It sounds weirdly weak, nasal and lacks punch. The B15 emulation, on the other hand... chef's kiss. Adds lovely warmth and a bit of breakup when you dig in. The compressor is hit or miss, though.

    Great review! The origin sounds better in the mix, less work in post production! Also, that compressor on the Ampeg… 🤐! However, IRs and routing options make it more versatile imho.

    That sound the Ampeg makes on that loud E note on 3:37 is why I sold my Ampeg SCRDI. Sad to hear that farting out sound on this pedal too. It sounds like it hasn’t enough headroom.

    im still waiting for my SGT DI to come,but i have an origins super vintage to compare the two.The Origins sound super good,but in mix i think the sgt di will sound much more articulated,and to me sounds more authentic ampeg than the origins.I will see if it lands finally next week,but in my opinion the SGT DI is more authentic and sounds better in the mix in this video

    I have the SansAmp v2 and I love the sound (I play only 5 string Stingrays and Sandbergs), I don't know if is a good move from Tech 21 to Origin Super Vintage, I love SansAmp for the fat punchy sound (in funky and slap, the articulation of the ghost notes)...
    And I have another big problem, Origin Cali76 v2 or Empress Bass Compressor Blue SPK (I seen comments on social media platforms that the Empress is better for 5 strings and I only play 5's).

    Really great content for bass players. I would prefer the Origin effects for a warmer sound, and for a more distorted grungy sound, you can't go wrong with the classic Ampeg sound. Could you do a video with your Noble to show the differences between tone on round wound, flat wound, and tape wound strings? Also, just a deep dive on all things strings? Thanks again! Love the content.

    Great video Ivan!
    I used to gig with a 1996 SVT Classic from 2002-2006. Got a lot of compliments on my tone from gear dudes and sound guys which made me feel like a Rockstar, but man, that amp was heavy AF. I sold it and switched to an SVT 3 Pro with a Sadowsky Preamp pedal. Very fat and clear tube-like tone but no comparison to the real thing. I am interested in putting the Origin Effects in front of the SVT 3 to see what tones I can squeeze out of it. Thanks for the comparison!

    Is there a way you can get just the DI out with the eq section, distortion, etc., all bypassed from both these pedals? I mean, I like how the cabs sims sound but I what if I still want some clean DI for "safety". Is there a way to get it from the pedals or I 'd still need an external DI box?

      The SGT DI has a Through Out. The Origin doesnt.

  • @ErixSamson

    To me, the Origin is more balanced, while the Ampeg is more boomy and not precise in the low mid. And I think the Origin will cut better through the mix.

      It gets somewhat close. Something VERY important to remember is that a big part of the SVT/B-15 tone is the speakers/cabinets used for those amps.

    Both of these pedals are replaceable with sansamp, that's just my opinion))) I have Ampeg SGT-DI and it is good, but not perfect. And there is a big BUT. It is superb with Warwick Thumb or basses with EMG humbuckers with lower tunings like C, B or lower))

      Nope...Not in my experience of 40 years...tried a lot of pedals and the ampeg sgt really is delivering that certain click and treble , you will expect from a rock sound ,played through an ampeg stack..forget sansamp and all that clones...also darkglass is way different ..a more modern medal aproach..But I must admit, that my ashdown tube head ,little bastard, is sounding even more lively, while recorded but the ampeg is adding that thick and rumbling tone..Perfect mixture..Also am an owner of the venture ampeg and this is really a very good sounding amp , very clear with a superb definition ..very recomandable..saludos

    • @JVMC_ZR1
      @JVMC_ZR1 7 месяцев назад

      It's because Ampeg doesn't want to have their pedals/cheaper stuff sounding better than their Tube Heads because it's less profitable. If it wasn't for Yamaha buying Ampeg, we wouldn't even have this SGT DI, they would still be making the Scrambler.
