    I love that you covered a wide variety of styles here. The Tech21 seems like it has more compression. I notice it more on the low end. The Super Vintage wins for me, but I could see it being a matter of taste. They both sound great in a mix.

    • @IvanBassist
      @IvanBassist  2 года назад +1

      They’re both being compressed the same way, but you might perceive the YYZ as sounding more even due to the clean low end it has. As you mentioned, both are great!

    I miss the Ultra Lo on Origin, that boost of 40hz and cut the mids (500hz) is magikal for an SVT style preamp. This is the only problem I have with the Origin preamp and the big one, this is why the Origin is not an SVT for me!

    Bought the YYZ last year after watching your review... it just has that perfect rock sound. Combining it with the Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor was a game changer for me. Yeah, maybe they're somewhat overpriced but these are the only two pedals you'll ever gonna need. Cheers from Bulgaria, mate!

    Great comparison! The growl, punch and mid range of the YYL vs the depth and bite of the Origin… yeah, better to have both rather than having to choose!!! 😜

    very interesting video and I clicked because these two are very different but they both want to emulate a tube sound at the end. I love the controls with the bassrig but I also loved how YYZ pedal was able to provide a good tone while also cutting through the mix every single time, despite being a pedal tailored for Geddy's growly tone. Both are winners.

    Gawd, you’re playing is excellent! Recently ordered the ‘64 blackface, honestly both pedals in your review sound good, but I say that’s all on you! The origin had a little more Hi Fi sound and the tech 21 is more mid focused with less highs but I’m sure that could all be adjusted

    • @IvanBassist

    Hey, Ivan, how would you compare Noble vs Origin effects?

  • @justtheotherdave
    @justtheotherdave Год назад

    Been A/B'ing bass DI pedals with an eye towards a SansAmp, and here's what I've arrived at:
    Unsuprisingly, all the Tech21 pedals have a similar bent to them - "mellow" or "muted".
    The O.G. SansAmp was my favorite Tech21 pedal, but I much prefer the Origin Super Vintage and Laney Digbeth DB-PRE - it's a close call between the two. However, I also really like the Fire Eye "Red Eye" which is a high impedance preamp and doesn't attempt to emulate any amp or cabinet. I haven't been able to A/B a Red Eye against a Super Vintage or Digbeth to see how they compare "clean versus clean" and decide if it's worth running a Red Eye and maybe adding a modeling effect in the effects loop or at the mixer.
    Any thoughts on this? Anyone got a Red Eye and some other "DI + drive" pedal and could an A/B comparison video?

    I prefer the YYZ for sure. Both sound good, but to my ear, the YYZ sounds better.

  • @marg0049

    The mids are more detailed and cut better on the Super Vintage. Whether that's worth 2x the price is the question!

    There is a Cabsim in every SansAmp tech21 say, but it is really suble to me even if they say every pedal have a multi miked cab-like cabsim, and they change them for every pedal. But it sound way better sometime with another cabsim after it

    Isn't the Super Vintage about $300 more than the YYZ? I had the YYZ and it was so nice I sold it to buy the more features 2122. I also bought a Bass Rigs 64 Black Panel,super nice.

    How do you prefer the YYZ compare to AO or b7k ? Also if you got those three like I will how do you use them ? Because, i love the tone of all three, i don't "need" them but sometimes I don't know how to combine all these or maybe I just need to use them when I know what tone I want 🤔

    • @IvanBassist
      @IvanBassist  2 года назад +1

      I like the YYZ for a more “traditional” drive tone. The B7k and AO sound more modern.

      @@IvanBassist I will try do use my B7k too. I just receive the Mp40 (YYZ Limited) and I Wasn't prepare for something that good ! It has a low bump I research since I start bass 4y ago 😂 the b7k blew my away for "low" tuning like dropA because it had a nice tight sound but i think the yyz can do it too 🤔 i like the fatness of the drive on tech21 compare to Darkglass that sound thinner for X serie and BxK serie

    Ivan, how’s the super vintage compare to a noble preamp di?

    • @IvanBassist
      @IvanBassist  2 года назад +2

      Hey there! Many people have asked me this, but to be honest it’s like comparing apples to oranges.
      Different units delivering very different sounds.
      If you need the sound of a mic’d up amp > BassRig
      If you need an extremely solid DI signal > Noble
