I attended his seminar once. I remember him saying: To attain happiness, you must have truth in your heart, knowledge in your head and strength in your body. God bless him.
A great martial artist and a great man! I am 60 and I couldn't do what he did at 80! I intend to keep training hard and, hopefully when I reach that age I will be half as good! :)
When I was young, in the early 90's I attended Stars and Stripes Tae Kwon Do in Carson City Nevada Mr Ohl was the owner. Master Rhee visited our studio once and he told us he and Bruce Lee trained together and exchange hand and feet techniques. Master Rhee was also the first to bring his style to the United States. I did a school paper on him, and in a book I found in the library at the time had a picture of him and Bruce Lee together and another Picture of him with President Reagan. I still have a couple vhs tapes of him=) This guy is a legend.
He was Extraordinary I attended his seminar at Radford University in Radford Virginia back in 1993. He did a balancing side kick holding position with a styrofoam cup of water on his head without spilling it. He did 100 fast push ups on his fists in 1 minute.
Happy birthday master Rhee, I am one of his student when I was in Virginia, he him self give me and my brother belt and he him self tided our belts when we passed the test, he is very nice , humble man, he doing push up or Shows some other move to encourage his students or friends not to give up working out. Whatever you are if you show your move to him , in one minute he show your mistakes, so don’t compare your self with him. Learn from these people and get more experience. Never be judge his push up right or wrong, he is a great Master, has thousands of students, be careful what to say sometimes
I was once a your student many years ago and you have made me a better person from the strength and discipline that I learned from you. Because of my military family life I was made to leave your Dojo in Arlington and try to continue my training elsewhere in Dojos that had other objectives, I have always stayed true to your student creed. "Might for right!"
We should take this video and make an animated poster for our walls so that everytime we wake up in the morning we may remember the meaning of QUALITY!
I know guys in their 20's and 30's that would not be able to do what this man did...and as far as his pushups are concerned......it is more difficult and requires extreme strenght especially at his age because he is sustaining his full body weight over a prolonged period and creating tension in his muscles simultaneously! Incredible!!!!!!
LOL you saddos - I'm a Kung Fu guy, and No they aren't correct Push ups, BUT Not one of you guys commenting here will be able to do half this...and that's even if you live to eighty years old. I fought full contact until I was 38 and won a European Title aged 45 in Light Continuous -( that wasn't light really at al)l. Now I'm 52 and couldn't compete, the younger guys are too fit for me to go three or more rounds. I admit that. This guy is A TRUE GRAND MASTER - RESPECT. And if you ever reach 80, come back here and apologise to everyone first then yourself after. A belated Happy Birthday Jhoon Rhee.
Exactly. IDGAF if he was full stroking them or not. Most people talking crap here would actually have a stroke if they tried to do "what little he did" as hard as he just did.
Lots of people critique Mr. Rhee's pushups for their less-than-perfect form, and in that regard they're correct. I've heard them called "bob ups" rather than push-ups. But, take it in context. He was 80 when this was filmed. He can do 100 "bob ups", which is probably more than most younger people could do - let alone the average 80 year old. Here, he is vital, energized, trim, and athletic-looking. His flexibility is awesome. He spent his life building a reputation as the "father of Tae Kwon Do" - not quite an accurate title, but he did at least as much as anyone else to popularize that discipline in the West. I find him quite an inspiration, despite the critics. He's accomplished more of significance with his life than most of us will.
Exactrlay what I was thinking. The man was 80 years old. Lots of 20-somethings couldn't do 50 "bob ups" or full pushups. Maybe not even 30. :) Most are out of shape. Or just nowhere near in his condition at 80. Add his flexiblity. I think those that criticized GM Johhn Rhee did so because he's Asian. Seems people (not Asian) are quicker to pick out faults with Asians. If this was Chuck Norris I'm sure no one would be saying a word if Chuck did 1/2 push-ups. It's the way it is.
Since the 70's I have met many of the truly great martial artists, and by far the most perfect vertical sidekick (I mean stright up 90 degrees toward the ceiling) was executed by Master Rhee. Today we have the Bruce Sistaz!
What's with the people trying to downplay an 80 year old master? "those were not pushups, blah blah". The man was 80 years old at the time... I salute anyone that can do 100... Even halfway pushups in 60 seconds without slowing down. It's more impressive that he was 80 when he did it. :)
Yeah, the push-ups were not full (face-near ground level) push ups, but I'm still impressed. My grandfather had a hard time walking through a parking lot in his 80s, much less doing push ups. I'm actually more impressed with his flexibility. I'm not as flexible as that now!
I was in a restaurant and he walked over to say hi , I had been in a tournament in the late 70's and he remembered me , he left about 10 Black Belts to do this real nice guy. Karl
Dam, sure his pushups might not look like full pushups as people say, but the fact that he can do that much close to a full pushup at the age of EIGHTY is dam well amazing. A twenty year-old can do that sure with lots of practice, hell they can even go further down than him. But when you look at the age difference, and then you look at his flexibility, not many of those guys who can do those pushups are as flexible as Rhee! Again, EIGHTY versus a TWENTY something year old. Kicking ass Mr.Rhee.
Wiseguys... there's dozens of ways to do pushups. This method does not permit the biceps to rest with full expansion and contraction, such that the biceps and triceps remain partially engaged throughout a high number of isokinetic reps. Like 300 half-way situps where the recti-abdominus remain engaged, high reps are tough at any age. Mr. kungfu, have you ever done any Chinese pushups...oh, probably not in Europe!
🙄🤨🙃💝💖🙏 God bless Mr Rhee master Bruce Lee best friend one of master Bruce Lee friend,,80 years old master Bruce Lee was 80, Nov 27 WOW absolutely amazing God bless them both
Listen carefully the founder of my school is John wolery his teacher or Grandmaster is Mr. Rhee from what I hear Mr. Wolery been train with Mr. Rhee since 1972 or 1973. Rhee has a school in TX.@VietzRus I never met my schools Grandmaster. I was just saying our school use's his Methods of kicking.
BRUCE WENT ALL THE WAY LEAVING A 1/4 INCH OF LESS BETWEEN HIS NOSE & THE FLOOR! BUT STILL NOT BAD FOR BEING 80 YRS OLD BRUCE MAY STILL WOULD BE PROUD OF HIS PAL JHOON WERE HE ALIVE.
I'm not a jhoon Rhee hater , but if you are going for the sympathy vote because of age im not impressed. if you do something do it right then get the proper respect

We should take this video and make an animated poster for our walls so that everytime we wake up in the morning we may remember the meaning of QUALITY!
He was quite the local celebrity in the DC Area. Most 40 and older remember his commercials around here
Exceptionally well and fit for an 80 year old. Amazing!
I know guys in their 20's and 30's that would not be able to do what this man did...and as far as his pushups are concerned......it is more difficult and requires extreme strenght especially at his age because he is sustaining his full body weight over a prolonged period and creating tension in his muscles simultaneously! Why call anyone a Saddo after starting a sentence with LOL?

"father of Tae Kwon Do" - not quite an accurate title,
Father of Tae kwon Do in America
You are right, I2a3sterling - I was a little careless in cutting short that title.
Thanks for the correction.

Damn! This master is awesome! Most of guys about their 20's can't do the half of exercise he does at his 80's! Great for him!
Respect, is all what we have to think about a man like master Rhee,
What's with the people trying to downplay an 80 year old master? "those were not pushups, blah blah". The man was 80 years old at the time... I salute anyone that can do 100... Even halfway pushups in 60 seconds without slowing down. It's more impressive that he was 80 when he did it. :)
strait to the point.
thanks for the clip

He makes you want to exercise. He lives it and inspires others to do the same. I'm sold.
I was in a restaurant and he walked over to say hi , I had been in a tournament in the late 70's and he remembered me , he left about 10 Black Belts to do this real nice guy. Karl

My daughter had the pleasure of studying under Grand Master Jhoon Rhee in Kensington,MD. He was a fine gentleman as well.
Ritchiemomitchie I grew up in Northern Virginia.
I hope she wasn't studying under him while he was doing push ups.
This is my founders Grandmaster I'm an currently trained in His system. Hope to meet him one day. Very impressive I can't even do that and I'm 31.
Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee is only 5ft 4'' tall, but his conditioned himself very well!
I don't care what the keyboard commandos here say, that is pretty fucking amazing for a 80 year old man. My hat is off to him.
100 push ups in 59 seconds? Is my stopwatch broken???
No way
Absolutely inspirational!

Jhoon Rhee is the Father of American Tae Kwon DO
Amazing! How is it this man is 80!?
Unfortunately he passed about 2018
JHOON RHEEE POWWWEERRR!!!!
For the people who criticize this man I have 1 thing to say: get down there with him and match him! Most people half his age can't match that.
i was about to meet him dang it i was sick so i couldnt meet him!!
🎼When you take Jhoon Rhee self defense…🎵
Even a young man can't do easily this pushup
The Grandmaster has spoken...
I'm not trying to trash the video at all. But those don't seem like real push-ups. Still impressive though
Low_Quality_Videos he’s 80 r u kidding me
true....but I hope I can do that when I’m 80
Excellent jhoon! I wish my rotator cuffs were as good as yours 😉
Exactly these are not correct push-ups but I hope that if I reach 80 I am able to do half of what master Rhee has demonstrated
thats gotta be a world record

I wanna be this guy when I'm 80
but Jhonn Rhee's moves are those of Tang Soo Do's. I thought he was Tae Kwon Do master. (both are totally different of course)
BRUCE WENT ALL THE WAY LEAVING A 1/4 INCH OF LESS BETWEEN HIS NOSE & THE FLOOR! BUT STILL NOT BAD FOR BEING 80 YRS OLD BRUCE MAY STILL WOULD BE PROUD OF HIS PAL JHOON WERE HE ALIVE.
"those aren't really pushups"
Many forms of pushups grasshopper - and at eighty.
Wow 😍😍
And not a single push up was done today
Well said
@humby123 you have 80th??.........
Agreed. Some of us may not make it to 80 much less perform these feats.
dont mind the push ups his old
its obvious that he cant do it right
OMG MASTER PINEDA WAS COUNTING!!!!!! (he's the one who claps the whole time in the grey jacket) GO JHOON RHEE ARLINGTON!!!!!!!!!!
Don't hate, this guy can grab his own heel in side kick position, it's true, he did it at my friends black belt test!!! I was right outside!!! :D
I must agree. If your going to do a push-up, do it right!
for haters stating not full push ups. Let's see what you can do at 80 years old.
@profleetautorepair Hey, did you see the headline to the video? This guy is EIGHTY. Not TWENTY. So your trolling is no necessary, thank you, sir.
Almost time for me to get back to the Gym.
@BuddhaZenMind Eh. 120. Then he decides he's done, and chuck norris round house kicks him. There would be no less of an hour.
I'm not a jhoon Rhee hater , but if you are going for the sympathy vote because of age im not impressed. if you do something do it right then get the proper respect
Put 'em in a body bag Jhoon Rhree!
srsly those are no real push ups..
That's pretty good for 80 but those aren't real push ups.
이준구 사범님 정정하셨네
Amazing! Must people his age need a walker to get by. Most people in their twenties can't do what he can!
100 shoulder wobbles.😁😁😁
So em ver fiquei cansado
Sorry, those aren't complete push-ups.
I love how all of these nubs are making fun of the guy for not hitting his chest, yet 90% of them probably can't do 1 "girly pushup".
✌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@Uaxis Erm *honor*
RIP
Those are wiggles.. Not push ups.. But still.. He is doing well for 80th..
I could do 100 in 30 seconds if a few inches counted as a pushup.
that's not a push up
If my old gym teacher saw this shit he would have thrown him out the window..doing those girly push ups
Does this make anyone else feel like a lazy bum?
lol he's 80! cut him some slack
Obviosly....The son of Chuck Norris
I think he could take Norris in a fight
