He really looks and behaves and speaks like a genuinely kind person.
You got that one right.
BTW McCain converted to Islam
@@fakechloe207 And Mitch McConnell is a socialist jew, ey?
Mr. Colbert, THANK YOU for letting the man speak uninterrupted! That is such a unique occurrence in media today, thank you.
Secretary Kerry thank you for your service. You are a great man. Had you been president things would be better.
I’m not sure how good a president Kerry would have been but I’m sure Iran loved him as Secretary of State. Sanctions nearly worked. Without his surrendering Nuclear deal there would have been NO AGENT ORANGE and Iran could have lived peacefully with its neighbors without glowing in the dark.
Every minute we fight amongst each other is a minute wasted for the common destination
You know? You can observe his body posture and the way he forms and articulate his thoughts. And you can really see and feel, you are dealing, with a genuine, sort of honest, person. What a contrast, if you are used to a human like Trump. It is like their inhabit different kinds of the spectrum.
MythJJ you’re damn right.
Right on, Brother!
thump is human ? pretty bad excuse for a human.
@Jo Jo You are far more gullible
If only McCain had been the VP nominee... Kerry might have won and prevented so much damage.
Recently watched The Final Years on Netflix and I was really impressed by John Kerry. He truly did want to leave a better world for the future which included the Paris climate deal. Kerry and McCain are two shining examples of how bipartisanship can work and both did what was best for the American people.
Dignified and respectful.
rare traits unfortunately.
I'm french and I love this guy. He speaks french perfectly !! We were so impressed !!!

Not all Americans are rustic boors.
Speaking from knowledge here about Sec Kerry comments about Vietnam vets remains coming home...I used to wear a POW/MIA bracelet for years given to me when my dad was Post Adjutant for the VFW..I actually had it welded to my wrist so it could not be taken off ( took my a Qt of SoCo to man up to it)...but 16 yrs after I put that on..I was able to take it off because the remains of the soldier were brought home. To You Sec. Kerry and Sen McCain..I Thank You
John Kerry was one of the best we ever had. Sharp as a razor's edge. I remember the work McCain and Kerry did with the POW subcommittee and the trips they made to Vietnam. Most of it was broadcast on C-SPAN.
He is a solid, good man!
I wanted John Kerry as our President.
John Kerry continues to impress me. I am generally extremely critical of how America behaves abroad, but I must say he was a fantastic Secretary of State who genuinely left the world a better place after his service. He couldn't undo the mess Hillary left in Libya and Syria, but he got the Paris climate agreement, the Iran nuclear deal, a robust sanction regime against Russian aggression, managed to say 'no' to the Israelis for a change, etc... Of course, the fat orange baby is undermining all of this, but I won't forget what Kerry achieved.
He was truly a great Sec of State. I hate to think he's done with public service. With John Kerry and McCain ending their 'tours of duty', I can't help but believe America is sorely lacking in examples of statesmen. Obama can't save us from this, we'll have to save ourselves.
I remember when John Kerry addressed the nation at a press conference after the Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris, stating what America would do to help France. Then, he switched into speaking in fluent French, and addressed the French people. What a remarkable, deeply human and considerate expression of support! What a class act!
Stupid agreement to give up. Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Whoops Sec. Kerry.
Thank you for your service Brother John
Both Kerry and McCain were awarded the Silver Star
McCain's ex prison warden in Vietnam paid respect to him. Mr 45 wouldn't even do a tenth of that.
I just want to know what are the real difficulties of running a Democrat/Republican ticket? It seems like such a smart thing to do, and very similar to how America’s first elections were run (runner up became VP). Senator Kerry is right, America is yearning for change along the lines of bipartisanship, and as far away from Agent Orange as possible
I imagine foreign policy. McCain had a fair amount of common ground with moderate Democrats on certain domestic policies (Enough for a presidential term without having to touch the stuff you disagree on anyway), but he was pretty extreme on foreign policy and the President has a lot of foreign policy duties.
The domestic policy divide - Republicans supporting zero taxes (and humongous deficits), no government provided or mandated health care, no social security, no environmental regulations, no abortion, no gay marriage - is pretty huge.
@@aquamarine99911 McCain supported carbon regulation, campaign finance reform, a negative income tax for the poorest Americans, a DREAM act, and some serious healthcare reform (his plan was terrible in many ways, stupid even, but in a few ways it actually went even further than Obamacare toward fixing the system). That's plenty for 4 years. Of course the new wave of Republicans opposes all of that so maybe nothing would have gotten passed.
There would have been a lot to disagree on (education, healthcare regulation, transportation, etc), but I think Congress could have been left to fight over those in a Kerry-McCain presidency while they focused on the issues they CAN agree on.
+Joseph G I was speaking about a the problems of a bipartisan ticket generally. What could have been McCain's greatest gift to American democracy - one that could have melted away the intense partisanship over the substantive issues I mentioned - was campaign finance reform. Unfortunately the USSC held that money = speech and corporations = individuals, so ...
Bipartisan AND as far from the LEADER of the Republican party? How's that supposed to work? Trump still has a 90% approval rating among republicans. "Bipartisanship" just means giving in to Trump.
I'm glad I campaigned and voted for Secretary Kerry when he ran for President. I'll do the same should he run again.
John Kerry for president 2020 you have all my support as: the Lybian citizen.
Happy birthday john from italian boy live in rome
Both fought in Vietnam. That creates comradery and mutual respect.
John Kerry would make a spectacular president!
hey trumpsters, come at me and reason me into why you decided to throw John McCain under the bus?
Daddy said so.
You're asking for Russian troll's to troll you.
Cloudy - You aren't really that dense are you?
He was an insane warmonger who constantly advocated for war against a shitload of countries (mostly countries that are inhabited by people of color btw). He voted for war against Iraq and Afghanistan, contributed to the destabilization of Libya and slavery being introduced back into that country. He supported terrorist rebels in Syria that helped to destroy that country. He supported far right neo-nazis (Svoboda) in the Ukraine. Look up why his fellow POWs in Vietnam called him "song bird" McCain. Lastly, fuck Trump, Fuck McCain, Fuck the Bush's and Fuck the Clinton's.
John McCain is a warmonger after he came back. no one seems to talk about it. Of yea, they are all warmongers
Sorry - but I have to repeat what I've said before - as much as I love Colbert, it makes me CRAZY when they have a Guest like John Kerry on and they give him 5 minutes. Really? Seriously? 5 minutes? What's the point. The man barely had time to finish a complete thought before he gets shuffled off to allow time for...what? Usually. It's to allow time for some pop star or B Actor. Don't waste an asset like John Kerry.
And he said a lot in those 10 minutes. His rebuke of President Trump, and the story of the conversation with John McCain on the plane. Wow ... I think I want to read that book!
Colbert was a pretty funny comedian but now seams to be a “one trick pony”. Political satire with comic license not to present facts.
Good job working together with Sen.John McCain. I look forward to the day when America will have a democrat as president and a republican as Vice president or vice-versa to fix the tribal wars.
where’s all the Trumpsters? listen to this man who speak eloquently and being humble
Nah. They are not inspired by that type of tone.
Class act
All I can think when I hear this is Trump and the "Bone spurs" that got him four deferments.
Cadet Bone Spurs as so coined by Tammy Duckworth.
it still blows my mind that the conservatives I grew up with voted for this fucking windbag even after he denigrated McCain's service and despite him being a draft dodger. I realized in the last election that 'Christian' and 'values' are just words in the Republican Party and they can be ignored at any time.
Matt Rowland - I'm on board with you. Trump in some very fundamental aspect is the antithesis to what conservatives/republicans stand for. Generally conservatives are deferential to the military; John McCain served his country honourably and suffered horrors I can't even imagine. Trump bitches about him immediately because this veteran and seasoned politician asks questions about Trump's policy and rhetoric. John Mc Cain is literally and unequivocally the diametric opposite of Trump. I didn't agree with 100% with all of what McCain advocated for but that is true of all politicians; I always trusted that the man had the best interest of his fellow citizens in mind.
Bone spurs and a very rich father.... does ANYONE think NO money changed hands to get the orange one not just one but FOUR deferments?
Do you feel the same way about Joe Biden and his 4 deferments?
Great show!
Please, please, please run in 2020, Senator Kerry. We need you. Kerry/Sanders 2020. Would be a powerhouse.
Every other big politician comes on and dances around calling out the president's despicable behavior. Not John Kerry.
Ya boi always goes hard in the paint against powerful people committing despicable acts
I read a lot of admiring comments about John Kerry in this section and I agree with them. Kerry's a longtime public servant: naval officer, senator, cabinet secretary. He's a remarkable example, particularly in the Trump era, of an dedicated and accomplished man, prepared to tell the world America's story.
I'm sure there are others like him, maybe even some in public life. If so we need them now. We can definitely do better than Trump. If we can get a good meaningful opportunity to learn about them, if our election and nomination system doesn't scare them off, perhaps we could get to choose a capable candidate.
It is great shame the United States never elected either John Kerry or John McCain to be its President - you might not have agreed with everything they did but both put working together in the interests of their nation, like finding the remains of servicemen who died in Vietnam and ensuring no one was left behind against his will, above their own interests or those of their parties.
They need to bring back the tradition of whoever loses the election for president, becomes the Vice President.
Well, the Vice President is meant to be a continuation of what the president wanted from his presidency.Just like Abraham Lincoln to Andrew Johnson (Reconstruction) and JFK to LBJ(Maybe equal rights). So by picking the person you trust most to continue/help you,the matter of the next president suddenly changing your agenda entirely is out of the table.(I don’t know if it makes sense, but yeah)
I really didn't see much to impress in Kerry's 2004 campaign. But he has recovered nicely.
@Agent Fungus a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B.
I recommend everyone searching 'McCain Secular Talk' and for even more spice 'McCain Jimmy Dore'. See things from another much more useful angle.
How can this guy be 74
If a person had served both as senator and secretary, which title would you address him/her as? Im guessing Secretary of State is a higher office, and also the more recent one for Kerry?
I watched Viet Nam in Black, and white as a child born of 1960, it was crazy.
I remember the election results. It was the first time i cried over politics. When G.W won,i cried.I knew how bad it was going to be.
So he considered Lieberman but ended up with Palin? Sounds reasonable
ARE YOU NUTS, OR JUST IGNORANT?
S Robertson both
Side note: Stephen, keep the beard!
Whoa!
I though President Obama's urology on talking to McCain on airplane was cheesy, but apparently, McCain was a talker on plane and that was one of his thing to get things done!
MAYBE YOU MEAN EULOGY???? UROLOGY IS A URINE STUDY OR TEST. STUPID....
Urology is the medical discipline of study/treatment of the urinary system.
Shouldn’t he be called Secretary Kerry?
Secrekerry.
I looked this up once to send a card to the PO box of a certain former secretary of state and discovered that, no, former secretaries of U.S. federal departments don't continue to use the form of address "Secretary _______," but former Senators can still be addressed as "Senator," so you'd revert to that.
Also, calling Ghouliani 'Mayor' is actually disrespectful to the presiding mayor.
Kristen Allen-Vogel They called Hillary Clinton, Secretary Clinton during the debates etc
How wonderful, 700 families could get the remains of their loved one's on a useless, false flag war, thank you so much Mr. Kerry.
I’m finding Colbert’s beard distracting. I think it adds 10 years to him.
We should not want bipartisanship. We ought to demand civility.
I have two low bracelets and I don't know what to do with them. Does anyone know where might find out? if it was a captured troop or someone who was found. I would think a family member would like it for a keepsake.
Tina Tika
Is low meant to be POW? If so, you might consider contacting your local Veterans’ group and asking them. Or, try Google and see what happens...this may not be as unusual a request as you think.

I think John McCain wrote the op. ed.
There is enough variety in opinion within the Democratic party to NEVER bring a Republican in as a running mate. That is not so in the Republican party.
He is an INFP
I suppose criticism of his lack of charisma stands but that's like saying a book is just squiggles on paper; true but missing the point. I think elected officials with some depth and thoughtfulness are desperately necessary.
It is amazing to think that Kerry ran for POTUS as a Republican and Obama chose him as Secretary of State. It wasn't that long ago that Country came before party.
Kerry ran as a Democrat against George W Bush.
Sorry, even John Kerry represented the wealthy, corporations, and not the people of Mass.Similarly Ted Kennedy behaved cowardly during the chappaquiddick incident. That was shameful, yet his base forgave him.
Johns really lost back-to-back presidential elections in the naughts lol
Idear
If McCain found it to b to difficult to run with Kerry or Liberman, running a country was out of his league to run this country.
Sorry, I'm a believer that if you don't feel like wearing a tie, then don't wear a suit. You don't look casual you look undressed. Sport shirt or polo shirt and slacks or khakis would be much better.
He looks like Sacha Barron Cohen dressed up as a person
Hypocrite! Flying around in his private jet
HAHA 10 CƯỜI
State your comment in eight words or less.
Would this be unusual? A Democratic President and a Repupblican Vice-President?
ASDF
Just a suggestion. USA needs more paries than just Rep. and Dem.
I would think that there should be more diversity
THE OLD ROMAN TACTIC "DIVIDE AND CONQUER" WOULD THEN WORK EVEN BETTER.
phft. More like friends in griftership. 👎
Goddamnit if that guy doesnt look like a wooden muppet.
It was a lesson in corrupt US imperialism. Both were for the war in Iraq
John Kerry would’ve been a good Vice President candidate for biden
John McCain was not a good guy. This was such a shit soft ball interview for Colbert...lost a lot of respect for Colbert after this he should have pressed him about McCain and he didn’t
Can you name a single name of the children that were bombed in Yemen recently? Can you name a single doctor blown up in Afghanistan when a hospital was bombed?
War criminal cartoon
Kind words, but I won't be voting for another centerist.
The galvanization is something that worries me greatly in this country. Ideally we could be mostly moderates with the more left and right leaning folks still getting to say their piece and have the majority center deliberate on it fairly. Instead we’re reverting to tribes and not looking at each other’s views.
To be clear I blame the republicans more than the democrats for that, and this president is only the latest example of it wedge being intentionally shoved into American politics. But whoever’s FAULT it is, the important thing is fixing it.
Gilgamesh891 Trump is on video saying “Punch that idiot (heckler) in the face, and I’ll pay your legal bill” at a rally. Do not lie any more.
@Gilgamesh891 I see you've adopted the GOP's newest talking point. It sucks how days after they started using it the Proud Boys attack went down. Have you got some egg on your face or what.
Sounds to me that kerry is a savvy politico. Fishing for approval and trading on anothers death and heroism He is horning in on Mcains status by as a hero. He did .0000001 percent over there that John did. Wants the respect to rub off on him.
i remember war crimes
