No airplay was not in the purple reign soundtrack as it should of been. So doomed it to the masses and only Prince heads knew to look for it damn shame is a top 5 song in that soundtrack which is saying alot.
Because back then the music industry was more interested in promoting Prince than his proteges, and Prince himself made sure of that. The post-Purple Rain near-demise of the Time is a perfect example. Thankfully, music lovers like ourselves helped keep the legacy of Morris and crew alive for their eventual comeback...

Praying Prince's estate will finally correct that blatant oversight with the next Purple Rain reissue now that they've pretty much seem to have a handle on things regarding his vault material of late. They did a slam-bang job with the recent '1999' super deluxe set, one of the few times in my life that I truly regret being "music broke" (lol). ;-p
Why should it have been included? Is there a version of it with his vocals instead of Dez' that could have been included? I'm just saying, there are no Time songs on the special edition, there are no Apollonia 6 songs on the special edition, why would this be different? I could see the single getting a special release, maybe a Record Store Day type of thing? THAT would have been excellent. But Purple Rain is a Prince album, not a regular various artist's soundtrack album, so they did the right thing leaving it off of there.

Googled the name, came to a page stating "Crazy Guitar Guy In Purple Rain." Dez Dickerson: “Without a doubt, the most widely known and sought-after of my songs is ‘Modernaire’. The Modernaires (then comprised of Paul Cassady on bass, Roland Lozier on keyboards, Ernie LaViolet on drums, and the late, great Joe Hunt on guitar).
