Dr. Fink in a separate interview said he had a different relationship with Prince. Since he directly worked with Prince and wrote songs for him, he stayed on a little longer after the Revolution (a couple more years) with his new collaborators like Sheilia E. It feels nice to get some insight into why The Purple One split with The Revolution. They were obviously exhausted from dealing with a mercurial boss, albums + tours + a movie, and needed a break, but were still shocked and saddened when it all ended. I must extend The Revolution my heartfelt respect for being so thoughtful, and mature enough, to simultaneously open and frank about the tough times, but still eagerly sharing with us their own appreciation and wonderment in the good times.
It took a lot of work to not only reach that kind of success, but to do it so independent of the record business and its support. Like boiling the ocean. Clearly it would take its toll on them and they all needed a break. What they did was a fantastic thing and should always be remembered and celebrated.
@@CruceEntertainment To me it felt like Prince realised that Purple Rain was the peak of what Prince & the Revolution could achieve and at the same time it was his creativity becoming mainstream. Prince was something else personally and business-wise/musically. And he will ALWAYS be loved regardless of his beautiful mess. And I will always love this band as well. 💜💜💜☔
It's so interesting to learn that Wendy and Lisa wrote much of Sign O the Times independently. It speaks to the trust Prince had in them and their overall talent. If you haven't heard their solo recordings, check them out. They made some great music after separating from Prince.
You guys where everything back then, i was 16, this music is in every part of me and i still play and study music every day. I consider myself very lucky having had the privilege to grow up with this music. Words can not describe how much i want to thank you for this. LOVE and THANKS.
I always loved The Revolution especially Wendy Melvoin. Wendy & Lisa are amazing musicians. Prince had the biggest influence in the music industry. The artists, bands & producers he introduced us to are simply the best.
I think he had so much music in him, he needed to keep growing and using other people that suited him. He evolved until the day he died. And I'm sorry that I lived to see him go first. I loved him.
Prince had to make the changes he made in order for his creativity to flourish and we all know that it did just that. The man's genius demanded major moves. These five cats here, were the pinnacle of that demand!
WENDY, you hit the nail on the head! Parade, is my fav album. When Doves Cry will be the #1 single prince has done, but Parade, and Sign O The Times are his magnum opus to me. Then the B side to Sign O The Times: La la la He He He! I'm done! Then to top it off Jimmy and Terry did Janet and Herb Alpert. O and Prince and Eric doing Madhouse! Sic!
My HEROS i wouldnt be a musician because of PRINCE & THE REVOLUTION! this break up story brought me to tears.. Forever Prince & The Revolution "May U Live 2 see the Dawn"
Parade is my favorite Prince album. I also saw Under The Cherry Moon, when it first came out in the theater, twice a day, every day for 2 straight weeks.
It's filmed beautifully, but I wish a real director and scriptwriter had taken it on. The studio was trying to tell Prince that it need's more conflict, and Prince apparently was like: no, it will just look cool and have music and that's all fans will care about. lol.
Prince along with the Revolution is easily one of the top 10 most instrumentally and musically talented bands of all time. Any of them could have easily fronted their own hallmark band if they chose to do so. The Time was no joke either but not as talented instrumentally except for Jesse Johnson. He was a monster in that guitar.
hello revolution. thanks for posting these videos. you guys are the awesomest, especially you wendy. i hope you come to baltimore maryland for meet and greets, or live performances. i'll be waiting for you.

They left more than footprints. They became part of so many people’s lives. There are so many times I reflect back on a song or a lyric or even a mood and think to myself yeah that was from the revolution. I am lucky that I can relive all those emotions through the albums. Thanks for all the incredible music and memories.
@Demitri Norris .... That’s because some people just don’t have an understanding of good music. That song tells a story, unlike the mind numbing nonsensical noise that they call music today.
Even as a fan i could tell things were changing. When he quit putting ' may you live to see the dawn', on his albums cassettes whatever, things were changing.
At the end of the day Prince wanted to move forward and felt that apart from Matt Fink, Eric Leeds and Matt Blistan, who were all members of the last line up of The Revolution, could keep up with him. Maybe he felt the others were just not good enough and lets not forget the amazing shows he would eventually put on, The Sign 'O' the Times tour and especially the Lovesexy tour. I really don't think The Revolution could have ever performed the Lovesexy show.
Perhaps, but the studio albums suffered after that point. Yes, Sign O' The Times is incredible but even that material was somewhat informed by The Revolution, it's his album all the way but they were still around, and that affected his recording environment for the better. Prince really needed the Revolution to help him translate his sound into the 1990's evolving musical landscape.
Its simple Prince felt the Revolution where holding him back, he wanted to work with musicians that were far more skilled than them. Unfortunately the Lovesexy show is the gauge you go by, the Revolution could never had performed that show which was the pinnacle of Princes live performances. Lets not forget by 1986 Prince had started recording material in the studio on his own so he wanted a more fluid back up of a band that he could bring in (as well as individually) as he needed.
He broke it up for emotional reasons. When you listen to the 1996 song In This Bed I Scream (dedicated to Wendy Susannah & Lisa) you get more truth on why he did it.
Parade and Sign o The Times and all of the bootlegs in between are definitely big with musicians. We used to pass around cassettes of whatever we could get from Dream Factory around ‘87.
I'm sure there was nothing awkward about his paychecks...because think about Wendy and Lisa solo..it was good..but it wasn't of the caliber of what they did with prince... So I'm sure fink was happy payment wise..
@@elbadwolf Also, they helped produce Soul Coughing's last album "El Oso" which was a masterpiece for people who were into Soul Coughing. @Brian Inglis maybe Dr. Fink doesn't feel he has the right to say much about what Wendy Melvoin said since her brother Johnathan was the original Revolution keyboardist whom died of a drug overdose (heroin) whilst fucking about with Jimmy Chamberlain during the Mellon Collie tour for Smashing Pumpkins before "original" Billy booted his ass out for letting Johnathan Melvoin die. Just a thought.
I think the Revolution, this lineup, was as much a part of him as he was a part of them more or less. Which is why even when he dismissed them he still wanted them to be around. He was a genius but the helped him become a superstar. They were a team and like a family.
Do you wish they would put out a Camile album? I'm on the fence, cause I guess there is only one song that has not been released yet from that configuration.
Those of us who continued to follow Prince for the rest of his life know Prince needed to spread his wings, without the Revolution. He was the 🌞. Matt has very little to say, probably because Prince wanted him to stay, and he did.
FZ did it with all his bands. They’ve served their purpose for the time being. Neither of them was living in the past, they were looking ahead. Nothing wrong with that. Especially with the talent both had.
Without question I loved the Prince & The Revolution period the most. Their influence on Prince was the best. That being said, I've no idea how anyone could possibly take being in a band with Wendy Melvoin. She's a very talented musician for sure but goodness she just has to control and run everything. Ego maniac. That ego greatly overshoots it's value. She clearly still has never learned to just chill the F out and be one of the gang. She's like a damn tiger mom in every interview I've ever seen with her.
Katerina Sp Yeah, really. I was thinking the same damn thing. Did "Ivan Lendl" ever reply back & answer your question? If he really is the one & only Ivan Lendl, cool. I'm happy to know 1 of the greatest men's tennis players was into 1 of the greatest pop musicians of the 20th/21st century & dug his music & his bands.

I remember feeling that moment when Prince should have done a reunion in 2009-2010 because this would have been the only thing left for him to do, but he died.
I feel like the Revolution was at their peak 84-86. Parade is on the same level as PR. Mountains, Parade, Sometimes It Snows are monumental songs. Just awesome. Oh yeah, Around the World In A Day album was pretty good too, that was 85?
It still would have been nice to see them reunite for a tour! I think it would have happened if Prince was still with us even if it didn’t happen until he was older say early sixties!!!
When you listen to the 1996 song In This Bed I Scream (dedicated to Wendy Susannah & Lisa) you get more truth on why he did it.
lovesexy was not on his own. eric leeds and sheila E were all over it. great album though
instead he veered way off into b-boys parachute gangster glam land. man that was totally against all the reasons we fell for him in the early 80's.
i need a documentary from them.
Jemel Moore | YESSSS!!!! 👌😀👍
A - MOVIE!!!! 👀🎥
I love the way they all sit comfortably on the couch so close together.
Only...ONLY! Wendy and Lisa could give such a fine and in depth explanation of Prince as an artist.
Parade and Sign o The Times and all of the bootlegs in between are definitely big with musicians. We used to pass around cassettes of whatever we could get from Dream Factory around ‘87.
Prince kept Dr. Fink in his band through the rest of the decade up to the "Partyman" video in 1989 and the European Nude tour in 1990.
Loved & Always will love The Revolution! Every Member is Forever in My Heart & Soul. Thank you for the music that had changed my life . I love you All
Great great reminiscent moment of
The people who lived some of
The ups and downs
With prince 💜🧚🏾♀️
Nice to see them all get along after all these years.
Dr Fink is silent because he stayed on playing keyboards until 1990 nude tour. 4 years after the revolution broke up. awkwaaaaard.
Brian Inglis or perhaps its not.
And he is always that way
U know squat
Obviously
I'm sure there was nothing awkward about his paychecks...because think about Wendy and Lisa solo..it was good..but it wasn't of the caliber of what they did with prince... So I'm sure fink was happy payment wise..
@@sprintbass Wendy and Lisa had a great Post Prince career. They scored the X-files and everything related to the series.
@@elbadwolf And they scored the series "Hereos".
I think the Revolution, this lineup, was as much a part of him as he was a part of them more or less. Which is why even when he dismissed them he still wanted them to be around. He was a genius but the helped him become a superstar. They were a team and like a family.
Sign O' the Times... my favorite Prince album ever.
Do you wish they would put out a Camile album? I'm on the fence, cause I guess there is only one song that has not been released yet from that configuration.
I love the revolution…talented gifted artists…. Love them all.
Those of us who continued to follow Prince for the rest of his life know Prince needed to spread his wings, without the Revolution. He was the 🌞. Matt has very little to say, probably because Prince wanted him to stay, and he did.
great group of talented artists
FZ did it with all his bands. They’ve served their purpose for the time being. Neither of them was living in the past, they were looking ahead. Nothing wrong with that. Especially with the talent both had.
OMG.Write a book please. I am only a quasi Prince/ P and The R fan, and this interview is SUPER INTERESTING. I watched it four times already.
Simply loved the revolution with prince. The music was never the same and I loved prince and there will never be another artist as great as Prince ❤️
1999 was Prince masterpiece period!!
Are you REAL Ivan Lendl?? The tennis player
Says the guy who never won Wimbledon lol
Katerina Sp Yeah, really. I was thinking the same damn thing. Did "Ivan Lendl" ever reply back & answer your question? If he really is the one & only Ivan Lendl, cool. I'm happy to know 1 of the greatest men's tennis players was into 1 of the greatest pop musicians of the 20th/21st century & dug his music & his bands.
Im so glad u said this cause i always thought the same thing!
utubegirl Omg Utubegirl I feel so sorry for you that u missed out on a magical journey with Prince and the revolution! how can a person Miss that that's like never going to an amusement park! U can't be walking on this Earth and miss out on a human like Prince or Michael Jackson or Madonna you have to see those people they were all born in 1958 check them out!
Sign Of The Times Was And Is His BEST Work!!!!...It's A Masterpiece Of Intellectual Instrumentation!!!
lamel watson 100 percent agree!!! Masterpiece!!!
Iconic musicians for sure 💗🕊️
It's good to see these 5 together after Prince's death. I am glad to know they still play music together.
I got to know Boni Boyer during the Sign of the Times period and she clued me into just how amazing Prince was. Still can't believe it's over.
They're holding back a lot!
Agreed, I see a movie coming out about this in the future lol!!
Because they are fool of crap. The logs from Sunset Sound tell the truth and the credits sure do not show their involvement.
@@lauraveney1412 you mean they are full of shit ...ok
Of course.
It wouldn't be possible to reveal all for someone who had spent between three and twelve years with another person in six minutes.
@Tony - Ha ha!
The music they created is legendary!
When PURPLE RAIN the album & movie came out in the summer of 1984, it made 84' a year i'll never forget ...
Bless the Revolution love them😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I remember feeling that moment when Prince should have done a reunion in 2009-2010 because this would have been the only thing left for him to do, but he died.
I feel like the Revolution was at their peak 84-86. Parade is on the same level as PR. Mountains, Parade, Sometimes It Snows are monumental songs. Just awesome. Oh yeah, Around the World In A Day album was pretty good too, that was 85?
Nice to see them together again. They are a big part of American culture and history.
It still would have been nice to see them reunite for a tour! I think it would have happened if Prince was still with us even if it didn’t happen until he was older say early sixties!!! Would have been one of the biggest reunion tours ever! Have The Time open for them!!! Incredible!!! Would have sold out every city!!!!
Yeah, the only band that would have been bigger had (or if) they reunited would be Talking Heads. They'd make a billion dollars.
It's easy to lose sight of the band members when someone like Prince was on his roll. It's good to see them all and relate those times that only they knew better.than anyone else.
you are all amazing. Prince knows how to pick them
* until he got into the McHammer gangster b boys phase. lol
The revolution changed my life!! Best band he ever had!!!
I love Prince. Probably my favorite artist ever. But he was never really the same after Wendy & Lisa were gone.
Sign o the times, Lovesexy /
Fresh2Def1989 facts
You are right. He got better.
Some of his most eclectic and diverse work was after they departed.
@@lauraveney1412 sure did
This is amazing. Thanks for the upload
Can't believe how old they are! Nooooooo! Makes me sad
Wow. Imagine having these 5 fantastic musician's in front of you who played on Purple Rain. I'd be going crazy asking questions about the song writing and arrangements. Great band.
The Revolution will always be part of my life❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the Revolution. They aren't my favorite prince band but they are LOVE.
I, definitely, would not ever allow anyone to call me “Brown Mark”
The Revolution had one of my favorite sounds. People still try to duplicate the sounds sometimes but I knownwhere I heard it first. Would love to know how they retrieved that basement feel. drums and pipes
Legacy Bridge It was HIS vision
