- Downtown Jefferson is filled with small, locally owned businesses, and perhaps the smallest of them all can be found on the corner of Racine and Center streets. At just eight feet by eight feet, Wedl's Hamburger Stand is 64 square feet of hamburger heaven.
As a child I are there so many times. This brings back lots of memories of Sunday drives into the ciuntry. Thanks for showing this. And I am vRry old now.
Have you been back to get a burger lately? I remember in the 60s you would take Sunday drives with your family, such a simple pleasure. I also remember people washing cars in the creeks on Saturday's.
I are liking cheeseburgers.
Is that griddle turned on?
Yes. They don't cook them at super hot temps. It's basically stewed in juices and fat for ten minutes.
@@MrMackievelli disgusting.....
Lol 😆
I am. Those burgers look juicy. Oh baby.
No that is why it takes so long :O
That story about the grill is so unique, thats the thing with some food joints theyll have an old grill thatll be better then modern ones, especially for old-school recipes like an 1/8th pound grinded patty on a grill
I heard there are about 106 other burger stands across the U.S. with the same unique history.
With those thin patties, you need a quadruple to taste anything.
I'm 60 yr old feller from Kentucky & we fried/ & still fry most everything in lard or rendered bacon fat, beef fat is good for sliced potatoes also, I am not a big fan of McD's but their fries were much better yrs ago when deep fried in lard
Thank you
Hamburger and fries doesn't taste right anymore. I have been trying to find a butcher where I can by Pig Fat and render to lard. I come from a big family and we use to buy Fisher's lard in 5 gallon tin pails. I'm from Kentucky also.
@debbiebuxton2854 here in Kentucky you can buy lard in a 3 lb. bucket to cook with, plus I save all bacon grease after frying bacon & pour it in a mug, & store that in the fridge , works for beef, chicken, pork such as pork chops, etc... I hope that helps you out, God Bless
Wow, 800 burgers out of 100 lbs of meat is only 2 Oz of meat per burger & actually less cause you are pressing all the fat out
Actually it was beef tallow...
Unfortunately there is nothing like this in the suburbs of Chicago, still looking.
petes burger stand at Prairie du Chien. wi has been there since 1909
I grew up in and around PdC from 1947 - 1957 - A Pete's burger was a must at least weekly during the summer. Have taken friends there, and my wife and her mom, on day trips, even though I now live in Milwaukee. It's only a 6 hour round trip for a burger from heaven! I have also had burgers from Wedl's several times when driving Hwy 18 to Madison and back ( I don't like freeways, too sterile, no scenery or small towns). I prefer Petes' Burgers hands down.
800 Patties from 100 pounds of Meat means a 2 ounce Burger & at 10 minutes to cook ?... Doesn't sound too thrilling to me.
THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟 DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜 AWESOME
Looks great.
Oh yummy 😋 I want to go ❤
Good fresh food = lots of customers.
Cheap quality food = fat customers. Boring fake history = lots of customers.
@@iamchicagoan2422 Each to his or her own.
Well. It was fresh when it was delivered. A grey undercooked burger swimming in grease doesn’t look fresh to me.
grey anemic burger cooked on a malfunctioning 100 year old grill no where near hot enough! Yummy!
Found the guy who wouldn't wait an hour for a tasty burger.
The reason they burger is grey is because it is almost expired meat that needs the lard to cover the flavor of decay and disease. No wonder they need to grind or "regrind" the meat daily.
@@bengrimm1222are you that poor that you’d wait one hour for food. Sorry no matter how great I’d certainly never wait an hour for anything - most especially a burger.
amazing!! here in california, something like this could never be....codes, restrictions, fees, zoning.....government getting in the way of people making an honest living...
What part. I just came from los angeles saw street vendors all over the place.
Not only that, but they would get robbed every 12 minutes. A burger would cost $25.00 and California can't let anyone be profitable...
You vote. You get what you vote for.
Never seen burgers cooked that way
Wow cool!
need to check out LD's BBQ in East Troy !!!
Secret? It’s cooked in friggin lard.
Why’s there no sizzle from that grill? Meat looks grey, turn the dan heat up and get some crisp on those edges ! Looks terrible
i agree. Takes 10 minutes to cook for a burger that thin--maybe they should rid themselves of a 106 year old grill that barely functions.
Yah I mean all those lines, must be terrible@@wesleygary6651
Low and slow works with burgers too 😅
@@wesleygary6651 a freshly ground thin beef patty fried in lard isn’t good? You’re crazy.
It looks swimming in grease. If the heat is too low it isn’t good for the fat - rather than cook in the fat it just will absorb cold grease. Yuck.
I'm curious how they fit 33 employees in an 8x8 shed...
Grey burgers?
Yeah, they "regrind" almost expired meat to blend all the disease and decay into a delectable patty that is boiled in lard.
Where do you put 33 employees in a 8x8 area?
They own the ice cream parlor next to it, that 8x8 space is only a small front to the business.
If they increase the heat on that blacktop…might only be a 20 minute wait…not knockin’…just sayin…😉
Just another reason why there should be an age limit or higher standard for older people to have drivers license. She took out a landmark.
Is the grill even on ?
lol no
They are using solar heat, works great. People love it.
It's a "grill" that they use like a steamer to boil the burgers in lard
I think that is cool ❤❤❤❤
They look like fax copies with xerox buns.
August(us) Birkholz?
German: Birke/-nholz = birch, Holz = wood
We have one like that in Colchester. No name.
It's good food, fast!
Not 1 of me in site 🧐
hamburger :O
Robbiy, you mean won't divulge your recipes which means to not give info or tell, indulge means to take part of like indulging in a buffet , etc...
That’s probably why it takes ten minutes to grill a paper thin burger.
Clearly, Robbie hasn't graduated grade school.
That does not look like "Meat!"
That meat looks like "Mcdonald's meat!"
33 employees wow
making a big deal out of the size even tho its called a hamburger STAND 😂
Hey there
ngl those burgers look disgusting lmao idk if id even try that
Griddle working?
the grill is not even hot
Think I’d just order a burger with onion hold the meat. That meat looks bad - cold greasy on a barely turned on grill. Then we have the head chef - Bubba.
there are no food safety or health regulations in WI ............................ no gloves nor hair nets.... personal hygiene... throw all that out the window.
gloves are not hygenic unless they're just for handling raw meat
Ricky Martin's nephew drops claims of harassment.
no sizzle or steam coming from that griddle at all
Solar heat looks different, but makes great burgers!
Looks undercooked to me
If they grind 100 lbs. of beef & yield 800 lbs. hamburgers that is an 8 to 1 ratio which means the burger is only 2 oz. & they look bigger than that, I'm not sure if that info is correct as they look like they are at least 3-4 oz. burgers
Robbie just trying to make the business seem bigger than it really is. I wouldn't be surprised if they only sold 200 burgers a day. I highly doubt that the stupid town has 800 smucks willing to spend $8/ day on a burger. Wisconsin is not a rich state and the town this stand is in is even less wealthy.
I will travel to try
Yeah, some people supposedly travel 600 miles just to try one. That's a 10-hour drive in one direction just to stop at McDonalds 4 times on the way there and back home.
please, go to the metric system like the modern world...
That meet looks rotten!!!!!!!!
Those burgers look disgusting, no Maillard reaction happening there.....they say don't knock it till you try it, naw imma knock this one. You can't fool me!
Looks like a subpar burger on a low-quality bun with mediocre toppings. It seems like another overrated tourist trap just because of its 106-year history. I didn't realize News 3 Now does three-minute commercials for businesses.
No gloves
Washed hands obviously dork
Gloves cross contaminate more.
@@ron.hertzberg Washed hands where? In the ice cream shop?
@@jacksonrelaxin3425 Not if all you are touching is food
Thats not how you cook a burger. The grill is not even hot.
Right! They are basically boiling the burgers in lard. It's a boiled meat sandwich! This is literally depression-era food! Yuck!
McDonald’s is trash I wish we had people making burgers on every corner like this instead of the big chains someone who cares behind they’re product cooking it for you
Their burgers are trash. You can see it. Oily and slimy. Thin patties and still undercooked.
Even with a burger stand on every corner people would still rather go to McDonalds. Everyone wants small businesses but don't support them as much as they support large corporations.
Eww looks nasty!
That's a pretty lady in pink
I woun't mind trying her beef patty
It's not known the world over, sorry.
Secret recipe It doesnt cost 10.00 a burger, its cost lower and better than McDonalds....a meal cost 8.00 with drink....SO...this is the future.
ROFLMAO@U
Grill is luke warm. Not the most appetizing looking burger.
Nothing special, and don't order a cheese burger...their cheese is terrible
Make America great again ! Trump 2024 we need to help people and say goodbye too Corporations
Griddle isn’t very hot
