It's not functional because it broke when you were skateboarding on it....cause that's what people will be doing with it.
oh man, I was going to get one but seeing as you cant use it as a foot rest or a skateboard, maybe not. Maybe the surface pro 3 can do those things better?
I'm pretty sure I just sat through this entire video holding my surface with tears in my eyes. I'm going out and buying a case and a screen protector tomorrow.

I would not see any of those tests as a fail, they were all well above the harsh treatment levels of extreme usage, even dropping it didn't break it from a good hight, Ild bet no other tablet could withstand such a beating? strap skateboard wheels on a iPad and watch it form into the iTacho before your very eyes, thats with one foot!! lol.. The surface is badass!
Nah, I disagree. Because I will one day so totally bake my Surface Pro with an egg on it, then drop wine on it, then suddenly drop it from a high height, and use it as a kickstand.

About the wine...so you find that unlikely to drop some kind of liquid into an electronic device?
And ofc no one has ever dropped their mobile into the ground,no one in history did that.

1. this guy tries way too hard to be funny 2. i can understand torture tests if they're realistic but 250 degrees for over an hour? when would that ever happen in real life? thats just stupid, if you're going for a heat test do a realistic one

Samsung doesn't make surface, and it was a phone not a tablet that caught fire, not explode. And its common sense that hot batteries do burn out.

I own a Surface and that was hard to watch :( I am impressed with how strong the screen is. It is also nice to see all the things I will NOT be doing with my Surface.

Obviously this toture test was more entertainment than a serious test. Rule of thumb: If your electronic device gets significantly drenched, immediately turn it off, dry it off, stick it in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. I believe Molly was far more respectful to torture test methodology than this tool.

I really doubt that at 250 degrees for 1 hour no solders melted and all the ics didn't get damaged.

Wow! Finally something the surface is good at... Frying eggs lol. Now I can see why Microsoft is marketing these as laptop replacements because I could never do that with my laptop.
I once spent arou d half an hour with my elbow on top of my surface while I watched videos on my laptop, completely unaware of the fact I was putting so much weight on top of it. when I realized what I was doing I freaked out, but for no reason: no cracks, no curvature on the screen, no descoloration and absolutely no problem at all with anything.

He's done almost all the standard procedures on their torture tests. This is no harsher than their previous tests on Apple and Android products. You can take a look at their previous episodes..

So to summarize:
COLD test - PASS
HEAT test - PASS, but with noticeable damage to the screen
WATER (more like a wine) test - FAIL (touchscreen ceases to work)
WILDCARD test (using it as a skateboard, Sinofsky-style) - FAIL (device no longer turns on, cracks on the sides, but glass screen did not break)
DROP test - FAIL (screen cracked in a >6ft high corner drop)
BONUS WILDCARD test (durability of kickstand) - FAIL
Ahh, the Surface should survive the freezer test. I mean, the camera was already in there...

the freezer "torture" does not work on computing devices, in fact it makes them run better because of the cooling. but i'm sure you know that; it's just a cool looking segment of the episode.
The egg on the surface made my day
Thats a good one. But even on a sunny day in summer, where I live where it can get as high as 40 Celsius, the hottest it gets in my car is 72 degrees Celsius. I can tell you from experience, the Tablet survives this temperature easily without that weird screen effect that he had gotten from sticking it to the oven.
I have to say there is real analogue to the freezer and oven tests. I own a surface for school and it goes everywhere with me. It has been left in the car in the back of my bookbag more times than I'd like to count. The winters where I live get very cold, and the case of the tablet holds that cold, but it still starts right up. Cars in the summer get oven hot, especially in high humidity and direct sunlight. The fact that the battery did not explode in that oven and still worked spoke volumes.

I like it since it shows the durability of the product! There is one thing that caught my attention which I thought was unfair if my observation was correct. I realized that the test for the Ipad3 included less of a torture then the Surface. You put the Surface in a real oven and left if for an hour and the Ipad was only put in a small oven for 30 mins. You used the Surface right away after spelling liquid on it where the Ipad was turned off and dried first. You should stick to the same tests!
heat test was not really needed but cold test was absulutely needed. you never know when you will forgot your tablet in your car in winter. i would really want to see a drop test from chest high. and you should put it on charge after the skiboard test cuz you might be just moved its battery when its bended. most devices keep working after that. and also you could try drying it after wine test. i will give you a 5 out 5 with 3 stars about torture tests anyway. you rock!

pfft a skateboard... I use my surface as a surfboard. My alienware is a wagon. My 27" external monitor is actually my boat.
When the tablet is left out in the sun, it will give you a warning, then it will shut off. So yea.
Well I managed to conclude that as long as I don't use my Surface as a skateboard, I'll be fine. Good enough advice for me.

Tech torturing doesn't get you anywhere in life.
It wasn't on the screen only, it was sitting in the wine for a few seconds that's a big difference. I am not too sure there is any tablet on the market what will meet your needs, not today.
