Is it sad that a guy with a bunch of action figures can make a more engaging story than most Hollywood directors?
I'm sure if he could use better animations, he would. But I think that the fact that he uses toys is pretty funny though. And he does a spot on Deadpool impression. And the musical numbers that he makes are pretty funny and creative too.

That awkward moment when a simple but passionate nerd with a nonexistent budget makes a better "movie" than Hollywood films getting hundreds of millions dollars of budget, amazing special effects, and hundreds of people working on it.

I know the feeling. Spiderman was my first ever superhero, but Superman has always had a special place in my heart. Along with the other Boy Scout, Cap.
I have this theory about Superman that I'd love to get your and other people's opinion on:
I think his supposed "un-relatability" has more to do with his relationship to American politics and the Cold War than anything else. In a world where nuclear proliferation is scaring the crap out of kids everywhere, Superman is vital. He makes us feel safe. He's the closest thing to a God other than actual God, and he's just, fair, and benevolent. Then with the collapse of the Soviet Union there was this special brand of chaos that brought us into the new millennium, and it feels like not even Superman can fix this. That's what makes him seem un-relatable. The world seems far too screwed up for a being like Superman to exist let alone clean up this mess. He just doesn't make sense in today's context. His morals are just too tied into "The American Way" that no longer really exists. Without having a "big bad" like the USSR was made out to be, Superman just doesn't work. His brand of justice is undefinable when there's no identifiable absolute evil, because Superman is an absolute. He is absolute good, and no one really knows what that is anymore. It's a miracle that Captain America managed to survive the twenty-first century, and I think the only reason he was able to do so is because he's human. As in literally human with a believable backstory.
Hm-hm. I personally don't think the lack of an absolute evil is a problem here. We have plenty of evils in the world, a whole rogue gallery if you will. I think a difference between Superman and Captain America - or any other superhero - is that we only burden the Man of Steel with real-world problems of the greatest magnitude, which is pretty unfair if you ask me. It makes me think of Superman throwing nuclear warheads into the sun to end the threat of a third world war. A strong image born of wish-full thinking that fades and reveals the harsh truth that it's not the simple. But when Superman can't save us, who can? Only ourselves, but that is hard and it's easier to hate Superman instead, dragging him down with cynicism and destructive thinking. But we don't expect that from Captain America, Green Lantern or someone else. They are limited where he is limitless. It's easier for us to accept that.
I agree. I think that analysis is spot on! That really is the image: Superman tossing nukes into the sun. Man, now that I think about it, Superman can breathe in space, and he's pretty much immune to radiation. It's almost as if he was created to dismantle nukes.
Oh, something interesting I found when playing around with Superman's character was picturing him at 15. He doesn't know he's an alien yet, but he's developing superpowers like crazy and the more time he spends in the sun, the more powerful he gets. I wrote some dialogue for a comic that will probably never come to be, and halfway through I realized that I was just writing dialogue for Spiderman without the wisecracks. It's insane but you can give Superman all the powers you want, but put him in the body of a confused teenager, and he just becomes Spiderman.
That's the youthful spirit of Spider-Man. Power means freedom to him. A way to escape his harsh reality. His youth distinguishes him from adult characters who see their powers as a curse (Hulk, Thing) or just a tool (Mr. Fantastic). Firestorm is portrayed like that in the new Justice League Action cartoon and it always makes me smile when he has fun being a superhero.
Cripes; That was so Stan Lee he possibly could have gotten "The Man" himself to *voice* it, as someone else who created some fan fiction did.
Btw IJSRG, did you go back & re-edit the voice-overs in any of these? Your references to things in movies that hadn't happened yet are poor uses for a time machine.
I love this series. the humor is spot on and he gets the characters so perfectly.
I especially love those comments that every comic book reader asks "KRYPTONITE?! Where do you find all this?!" Classic
I can't believe that this guy has a better driven story line then what Hollywood has done in the past. Un freaken believable. Funny, action, its a kid playing with toys but done so well. Hay Hollywood, if your watching take some notes damit!

It's not hard to believe, though! I mean, sure, Hollywood directors may have a bigger budget, which means that they *could ostensibly* have better writing, but you know what they don't have? Respect for the characters that they're using. At least, not for the DC characters, anyway. And why don't they have that respect? Because all they see is a chance to make money, without seeing that they need to respect the characters in order to make that money! No one is going to see Batman V Superman over and over again! But, the DC Animated Movies? Those people will see over and over again! Unfortunately for Hollywood, those are straight to home videos, while the ones that they show no respect for are in theaters, and therefore would have longer to make more money, if the same amount of care was put into them that got put into the DC Animated Movies. All right, so I'm pretty sure that I made my point by now, right? If it sailed over your head because of the length of this comment, what it boils down to is this: If the person making stories with beloved characters has respect for the personalities of the characters that they are using, then those stories will automatically be better than if they don't have respect for the personalities of the characters that they are using.

Every single comic book fan needs to see this series! Especially those biased of one side. I absolutely HATED Superman before this. Now I understand him a lot better. He made me like Superman.

And with all the fuss about Stan's passing, this bit of fictional dialogue is the one thing that came to my mind after seeing all of the tributes, everybody saying how great he was (and he was, sure), but with this little speech towards Superman, you gave a nice, if, again, fictional, example. Bravo.

Yeah, while he may have never said that monologue, you kinda get the sense that's what he was aiming for with his heroes being relatable while being responsible enough to save the world. And man, the impact it's left for five generations of people. R.I.P Stan Lee...
That’s what I love about this channel. Random Guy just gets it. The Stan Lee fictional dialogue in this episode is exactly what the real Stan Lee stood for and probably would have said to a real life Superman to inspire him.
This is so good, and it's just a guy with action figures, a camera, mic, and probably some cheap editing system yet he wrote and delivered such great stories. True talent doesn't need expensive professional looking stuff, it just needs an outlet. Amazing job, friend. I hope you go far.

This is the best DC-Marvel crossover thats ever been done!
Not the best...There was that Marvel VS DC Animated Fan Film that was released since this comment was made, and then the Official Justice League vs Avengers limited comic series, and then the official Marvel VS DC limited comic series, in which the iconic scene where Batman admits that Captain America *could* beat him happens, and then the Amalgam Universe. The Amalgam Universe was amazing, in my opinion. To have Doctor StrangeFate be Charles Xavier as well? Not to mention Darkclaw, and it's version of X-Force? At least I think that that was the team that went up against Doctor Doomsday...Ooh! And that Batman/Punisher crossover, and that Superman/Spider-Man crossover, and that Spider-Man/Batman crossover...but I see your point. This is indeed a GREAT and POWERFUL DC-Marvel crossover!

So I'm rewatching this in tribute to Stan "The Man" Lee. So face front true believers The Man just went home.
Even when the DCEU is failing him, I still believe in Superman
Damn straight you do! It's not the character's fault that the Hollywood directors in charge of the DCEU don't have respect for his personality, after all. I mean, do you remember the amazing Superman Animated Cartoon Series from the late 1990's? Or the amazing Justice League Animated Series from the early 2000's? In both of those, Hollywood proved that they could do the character correctly, but nowadays for some reason, they just refuse to.
RandomGuy really has a substantially better understanding of superheroes, the DC and Marvel universes, and Superman than almost any author currently working with them. He's written a Superman story that is epic, deep, and meaningful... It may well be the best use of Supes in decades.

I absolutely loved watching these as a kid. This was my first exposure to a lot of these characters and as the years go by, my love, appreciation and understanding for this series only grows and deepens. You truly had an understanding and respect for these characters that not only speaks for itself, but has helped people like myself reform their opinions. I used to not like or understand Superman, but after this series and my own experiences with the character, I'm able to realize that he truly is the greatest superhero of all time and he always will be. Thank you for all that you've done in service of our heroes.
This shows the respect and the true spirit of the comic books fans. My hats off to you and your crew. You made me a true believer once again and to think this series not only made me smile, it made me teared!! Watchin in 2017! I never liked Superman for the same reasons brought out in season one. but after season one I had real respect for him. He may still not be my favorite hero but I truly respect him now and I believe in Superman.

I literally got chills from watching this! I am so much more in touch with not just Superman but every other comic as well just from your commentary on characters through Stan Lee and this series. Not just comic book characters, but characters used in any art form. Not just fictional characters but also people in real life. You are a really talented writer and I think you deserve to own your own company of Muli-media.
Just watched the "After Hours" set in a row. Man, you perfectly captured why I loved comics. Stan's speech rocked, as did everyone paying homage to Supes, and then Cap's part in all of it...Cap really does speeches the best. Loved it, thank you for it.

I love how you gave Superman a purpose again when nowadays everybody forgets what he really stands for. I didn't like Superman because I thought he was too perfect, but you gave me a reason to like and look up to him. And you used Captain America to do it. The Stan Lee speech at the end was amazing. It's funny how if you look back to first Mac vs. PC spoof, that it all ties together. This was an incredible ending to an incredible series. Awesome work.
That was epic! That was so, so...just EPIC! The tone was perfect. I forgot that they were action figures; I forgot that they weren't real! I haven't been so engrossed in a story in a long time. You've reaffirmed my faith in Superman, too. Thank you!

That was so amazing. Not only was it hilarious, it had an incredible story with a message, realistic characters that you obviously know backwards and forwards, memorizing dialogue, great timing, I honestly liked that more than any superhero movie I've seen in the past few years. They wouldn't have been able to make a better marvel/dc cross over movie! That was just really amazing.

I can totally picture Tom Welling, Ben Affleck, Tobey Maguire doing these Batman/Superman/Spider-Man scenes.
This is just amazingly good. Really. Every character has his place, everyone has something meaningful to do, even the cameos (loved the Doom-Luthor confrontation) are sweet. And, of course, the ending is extremely well-thought. This is the best cross-over story ever, hand down.

Superman is a wonderful ideal to look up to, and was the first superhero I ever witnessed. I may be a Marvel/X-Men guy at heart, but I still hold Superman's ideals and morals very close to my heart. He IS relatable to me, because my beliefs are called old-fashioned for the same reasons his are.
I cried during this series. Especially when you brought in Captain America. The sincerity is just...amazing.

Really, Marvel and DC do so well teaming up together, from looking at the last shot, I loved how you directed it, all the classic characters from DC and Marvel all together.

I've just watched the entire sequence, and was completely riveted. My compliments.
Some serious acting lessons demonstrated here: Writing, vocal delivery, bodily posture, are all FAR more important than mere facial expressions: Everything, by every character, was completely successfully conveyed, despite the facial immobility of the figures. And as a knowing, loving, satire of comics, and how Hollywood peceives them? Pure genius.
