- Although scleroderma patients frequently have joint pain (anthralgia), coexisting disorders also can cause anthralgias. These disorders include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Sjogren syndrome, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism and others. The pattern of join pain, physical examination findings and laboratory tests results help to identify these conditions. The treatment approach will differ, depending on the underlying cause. Muscle pain (myalgia) and nerve pain (neuralgia) are distinctly uncommon in scleroderma patients. Here also, the causes need to be identified, if possible, and treated accordingly. This workshop wil laddress how scleroderma and non-scleroderma causes of anthralgia, myalgia and neuralgia can be differentiated and treated. Presented by Dr. Thomas Medsger.

I have a patch skin thickening on calf. I have systemic sclerosis of GI tract and multiple bouts of pseudo diverticulitis ended with resection of sigmoid colon. My feet are losing the fat pads. I was refused disability and lost everything. I have been homeless for 3 years. The Florida sun is resulting in a continuous flare up. The profound fatigue is my most serious symptom after accelerated digestion and loose stools requires that I be near a bathroom.
I'm at the end of my rope. I don't have any doctors in my area that know anything about scleroderma and I have been suffering from it for 25 years or so they say. My illness started off with peripheral nerve pain, wounds, losing a leg, and if it could go wrong it went wrong. My hands are in terrible shape with thick skin and food chokes me however there's nothing else. As you can imagine everything is blamed on scleroderma. But again there's little knowledge regarding scleroderma in my area. Every doctor I see can't wait to get rid od me. I was diagnosed with diabetes with a A1C of 5.5. Say what??? I've been on Metformin for 10 years. Everytime I question anything physicians go balistic. I'm an RN, so I've had questions. As my life is being taken from me slowly and surely by doctors not the disease. I'm at a loss. They ask me what I want to do. I'M NOT THE DOCTOR. THEY NEED TO DO THEIR JOB!!!
LORD, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! I'M NOT READY TO DIE! I WANT TO FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG AND LIVE!!! THIS ALL STARTED OFF WITH POLYNEUROPATHY! AS FAR AS I KNOW SCLERODERMA DOESN'T EVEN AFFECT NERVES UNLESS SECONDARY TO COMPRESSION!!! HELP ME DR. MARGARET MAYES!!!
