Right. Denver has way bigger issues and fish to fry than expired tags. At the end of the day. Whether people are working or not, people are broke. Some People cant afford to renew their tags, but still have to get to and from work everyday, plus other errands and business they need to take care of.
A couple days ago a police officer was behind me of C470, my temp expired mid July, and I didn’t get pulled over. I actually have legitimate reason because Im waiting on a legal document before I can get emissions testing done and I have full coverage insurance.
Why expend the time, and safety risk of a traffic stop? Just walk the mall parking lots. I’m new to Denver and am amazed at the number of expired tags here.
Good question. I wonder if there's some sort of technicality re private parking vs. public roads. (I don't know, and don't claim to know). If that's an issue, one thought would be to have meter maids check. If they find a block with several violators, they could call some cops working the area near them and have them come and efficiently write multiple tickets. Or better, cross train the meter maids to also write expired registration tickets (though again, I don't know what legal rules there might be on that).
@@arvelle4: Ah. So there you go. Maybe cops could hang out near the mall exits, and signal their buddies down the block to ticket offending vehicles they'd found walking the lots. Surely there must be good ways to fix the problem of scofflaws. As someone who pays all his taxes, I don't like tax cheats. And I'm talking deliberate cheating, not someone who occasionally forgets.
Yes. Which is why it should likely be more like $250 fine AND escalate rapidly on further offenses within, say, a 5 year window. If they had a $1000 fine for a second offense, for example, maybe they'd be incented to pay their taxes.
I’ve lived in Breckenridge for 12 and before that I was in Colorado springs for 3 years I don’t change my plates or license ..we don’t even have addresses up here they don’t even deliver mail.. another state is not the problem the expired is.. I will never change my plates to Colorado bc I’m leaving eventually but my plates are not ever expired.. totally diff issue.. we have tons of ppl that are part time residents here so another state is fine if they are renewed and have insurance..Denver is just ghetto
@@Rockymountainhighlife: If you LIVE in X, I think you are supposed to register your car in X. So it depends on your address, not where you'll eventually live, as I understand it. If you don't have an address in a location, then I don't see how that's an issue, re registration.
Tell that to the blue government leaders here who have invited illegals into the state who follow none of these laws. Otherwise I would agree with you. You cant make two separate standards for people to follow and expect the higher standard side to not just say F this
Wish they would stop issuing citations and just impound the car until they can provide proof of registration and insurance - driving is a privilege, not a right.
You don't need registration to have car insurance. You're just assuming that drivers who don't have their vehicles registered also don't have insurance.
I haven't seen much of an improvement in the Denver/Aurora area. Besides on the freeway, drive down any of the streets where a lot of people park and often half of them have expired tags or no license plates at all. Ironically, the ones I see on the freeway (225) are often high-end vehicles. (You can afford a new Mercedes but you can't afford to register it? No doubt you can't afford to insure it then, either.) The fines for expired temp plates and tags are too insignificant to be a deterrent, especially when people think there's only a small chance they'll get caught. They should be incremental based on how long the tag has been expired, up to 6 months. If it's expired past 6 months, vehicle is impounded. No temp tag or plate at all, or forged temp tag? Vehicle automatically impounded (same as if no insurance). Revenues from those who do not follow the law can offset the costs for those who do.
Law enforcement should have been enforcing this as soon as the COVID restrictions exprired!!!! I have had to pay for this, with fines..why shouldn't those behind us that didn't keep up? Should be WAY retroactive.
Good, I was hit on my motorcycle by a truck with no tags and he took off. Saw the same truck 6 weeks later with damage on it from my bike. Still, no tags at all, driving all over downtown on Speer.
Colorado is excessively expensive to register your vehicle, more so the metro area because you have to pay RTD taxes (Taxes to an organization that has lied to voters and failed to meet the goals they've promised almost 2 decades ago, all while continuing to take our tax money). Colorado did this to themselves and if they want more people to register, lower the price. It costs 41 dollars a year to register a vehicle in other states and it doesn't matter the year / make / model or value of it.
Different areas tax different things different amounts. My dad stopped considering moving to Denver when I was a kid when he found out the real estate taxes were just MASSIVE compared to ours in central KY. It looked good until he found that. Maybe they tax property a lot but other things less. Not registering isn't an acceptable response to a moderate fee -- cars are EXPENSIVE to own, after all.
It was 1750.00 register my 2024 Nissan leaf. The car is 30k max. With the cost of living so high and if you can't afford it. The 95 dollars is easier to pay. With record homelessness and rent prices. I see why people are barely surviving. This all makes sense, in my opinion.
@@rogergeyer9851 Car registration shouldn't be the barrier of what makes cars expensive to own. Thankfully, due to interstate clauses, it's almost impossible to enforce everyone to have a local plate as you can just say you're visiting. These loopholes exist for a reason.
I'm in California i own a 18 yr old truck outright for 13 yrs now and registration is almost $500.00 @ year and it seems to be increasing yr after yr. Every other year a smog check certificate has to be obtained, that's anywhere from $50.00 to $75.00. The money for registration of truck should go to fixing road, highway infrastructure and i see nothing getting done. I understand proper insurance and license but the rest of the out of pocket expenses is a joke.
🤣 Just a money grab. Undoubtedly, the "enforcement" will depend on who's driving the car. Yeah... probably not -- no money to be made there.

The law needs to be..the split second..you have ABSOLUTELY NO plate on your vehicle. Then IMMEDIATELY it's pulled over and unless that person can ON THE SPOT produce a plate. They should be ARRESTED and the car impounded for 60 days. DONE. This wouldn't stop til it is properly addressed in legislation. Til then. As a citizen. ARM yourself and cameras..cameras..cameras.
